Following his title as "last year's best from Brackish Town", Magnus was given the opportunity to compete in an {{wp|Exhibition game|exhibition match}} against the [[Kalos]] {{pkmn|Champion}} [[Diantha]]. He sent out his {{p|Absol}} to battle [[Diantha's Gardevoir]], but it was easily defeated without Absol scoring a hit on Gardevoir. After the battle, Magnus respectfully shook hands with Diantha.
