Control Gauntlets are used by the Pokémon Pinchers to capture Pokémon in Pokémon Ranger: Guardian Signs. They take time to capture a Pokémon, so it is possible that their connection can be cut off before the process is complete. They can also be used to show Ranger Signs on old monuments.
