Tyler (Japanese: タイセイ Taisei) is a beginning Pokémon Trainer and the character of the day in The Thief That Keeps on Thieving!.
Tyler was trying desperately to catch a Yanma when he met Ash and crew. Like Dawn, his starter Pokémon was a Piplup. It was a female nicknamed Pippy (Japanese: チャッピー Chappy), and wore a tiara on her head that was a gift from Tyler's mother. After finally weakening a Yanma, he was about to catch it until Team Rocket showed up. Jessie threw a Poké Ball at it and caught it herself.
Dismayed by this, Tyler began to feel that he would never catch a Yanma, but Ash encouraged him and he found the confidence to try again. The next day, he attempts to catch another Yanma but Team Rocket interfered once again and the Yanma got away. A little bit later he put out some of Brock's Pokémon food and another Yanma started to eat it. Team Rocket tried to interfere again but Ash sent them blasting off. It took a couple of attempts but Tyler managed to catch this Yanma.

When he started his Pokémon journey, Tyler's starter Pokémon was a female Piplup that he nicknamed Pippy (Jp: チャッピー Chappy). Despite the fact their journey together had only just started, Pippy was very loyal to Tyler and also very friendly towards other people despite the fact Piplup are normally known for being distrusting of strangers. Pippy was also a skilled battler, as she not only was able to swim faster than Dawn's Piplup but was also instrumental in Tyler's successful campaign to capture a Yanma. Pippy has a habit of dancing in place when she is happy.
Upon starting his journey, Tyler made a vow to capture the first Pokémon he saw, and that was a Yanma. Although the Yanma he saw was later captured by Jessie, Tyler didn't give up and decided that although he couldn't capture that particular Yanma he would still attempt to capture another. After a few attempts (which only failed thanks to Team Rocket's interference), Tyler and Pippy finally succeeded in catching another passing Yanma.
Yanma's known moves are Wing Attack and SonicBoom.
