Blurb
While our heroes are visiting their friend Sanpei’s home in Ninja Village, Chief Hanzo is captured by a group of mysterious ninja! Their leader is Kagetomo, a gifted ninja who has decided that he should be chief in Hanzo’s place.
Sanpei and his brothers are determined to free their chief, and they confront Kagetomo and his forces head on, with the help of Ash, Serena, and Clemont. During the battle, Ash’s Frogadier evolves into an immensely powerful Greninja! The ninja force is defeated, and Kagetomo sees the error of his ways and decides to refocus on his training.
Ash and friends stay to enjoy the village festival, where Hanzo names Sanpei’s oldest brother, Ippei, as the next chief. After our heroes depart, the middle brother, Nihei, tells the others that he saw something in Ash’s Greninja that reminded him of the village’s ancient hero...

The episode starts with Ash and Sanpei battling Heidayu. When Shinobu and Serena escape Team Rocket using the ninja body switch, Kagetomo's Skarmory blasts Team Rocket out of the village. When Ash and Sanpei are about to lose against Heidayu, Saizo comes in to battle with his Barbaracle. At that time Kagetomo's ninja force retreated with Heidayu saying "But it looks like I have bought enough time".
Later Saizo tells everyone that it was Kagetomo and his henchmen who kidnapped the chief. Saizo explains to Ash and his friends that Kagetomo was a powerful ninja from the Ninja Village who ran away with his follower Heidayu because he was denied the position of chief due to his thirst for power. Later one of the ninjas had found that Chief Hanzo was being held captive at Otori Mountain. Then everyone goes to rescue the chief.
As they are going, Heidayu and some of his ninja minions intercept them. Nihei then says to Saizo that they will handle things here while Saizo and Ippei should go on. Saizo and Ippei agrees and goes on. A raging battle starts between Heidayu's ninja force against Ash and his friends. Ash brings out his Pikachu and Frogadier while Sanpei brings out his Greninja. Both again battle Heidayu and his Bisharp.
During that, Saizo and Ippei reach Chief Hanzo and Kagetomo and a battle between Ippei's Greninja and Kagetomo's Weavile begins, so that Kagetomo can prove his worth to Hanzo and take over ninja village as the new cheif.
On the other side Ash and Sanpei are having trouble figuring Hedaiyu's Bisharp. Frogadier is knocked on the mountain wall trapped in the rocks and Pikachu and Greninja are down on the ground unable to move.Just as Bisharp is going to finish off injured Pikachu with Fury Cutter, Frogadier jumps ahead of Pikachu at the last second and pushes back Bisharp as it evolves into Greninja. Ash's newly evolved Greninja attacks with its newly learned Water Shuriken and thereafter transforms into Ash-Greninja for first time by encouragement from Ash. It shortly defeats Bisharp with an extremely powerful Cut and reverts back to its original form before Ash can understand what happened. However this encouraged Clemont, Serena, Nihei and Shinobu to defeat the other ninjas.
On the other side Ippei faces difficulty battling Weavile. Hanzo also silently appreciates Weavile's power but says that it lacks one thing which Ippei has. Ippei with some strategy manages to beat Kagetomo's Weavile. Kagetomo is totally devastated at his defeat. Hanzo tells Kagetomo that his Weavile is far more stronger than Ippei's Greninja. But he lacks one thing Ippei has, that is dedication which is reason of his defeat. All battles are over and everyone retreats to ninja village for festival with Kagetomo's ninjas being captured by villagers.
Back at the village Hanzo declares Ippei as the new village cheif. Back at a cliff Kagetomo is seen with Hedaiyu, Hanzo and Ippei. He has realized his mistakes and wants to the world he should dedicate his powers for.Hediayu although unwilling accepts to join Kagetomo. Kagetomo tells Ippei to take care of village and leaves with Hedaiyu. In the morning Ash and friends leave too, and after that Nihei tells Hanzo, Ippei and Saizo about Ash's Greninja's mysterious transformation and everyone gathers at temple with Ippei saying that it means hero from the past saved the village again.

Errors
- After Ash's friends notice Team Rocket, Dedenne can be heard despite not being physically present and Bonnie's bag being closed. This was fixed in the dub.
- When Hanzo, Saizo and Ippei talk to Kagetomo after Ippei defeats him, the golden triangle in Kagetomo's chestplate is colored black instead of gold.
- After returning to the Ninja Village, the webs on both Ash's and Sanpei's Greninja's feet are missing.
- At the end of the episode as Ash and his friends walk away, the patch of brown fur on Pikachu's tail is missing.
- When Ash takes out his Pokédex it is shown to already be open, however when it is pointed at Ash's Greninja it is shown to open up again.
Dub edits
- After Frogadier evolves into Greninja, Serena says "Next time it'll be our turn, Braixen," referring to wanting Braixen to evolve. In the original, she simply calls for Braixen to prepare to attack.
- When Bonnie, Dedenne and Squishy are cheering, the order of Dedenne's speaking is different in the dub than the original Japanese version.
