Maya (Japanese: マヨ Mayo) is a character of the day who appeared in Mastering Current Events!. She is the granddaughter and student of McCann.
Ash and his friends ran into Maya and while her Chimecho battled against McCann's Scizor. The battle ended with McCann's victory. She is very fond of her grandfather and spruiked his reputation. Her cheery nature softened McCann's hardened stance against all Trainers who he viewed as unworthy of his training, with little effort she convinced her grandfather to battle Ash and have a rematch the following day. As Ash and friend left Ash's Gliscor in their hands, she reassured him that it would be looked after.

Chimecho is Maya's only known Pokémon. Like her grandfather's Scizor, Maya's Chimecho also used winds to fly and was used by Maya against her grandfather in battle. Although Chimecho was powerful, it was unable to stand up to Scizor's skill in the air and was defeated, accidentally knocking Piplup out in the process.
Chimecho's only known move is Psywave.
