Investigate the Foundation (Japanese: エーテル財団を調査せよ) was a villain event in Pokémon Masters EX. It tied into the first part of the Alola chapter of the Villain Arc, featuring battles against the Aether Foundation. It was one of the Alola villain events, the other being People Protecting Pokémon.
The "Sygna Suit Hau Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Sygna Suit Hau and Tapu Koko for the duration of the event, and the "Sygna Suit Mina Poké Fair Scout" gave players an increased chance of recruiting Mina and Tapu Fini starting on April 30, 2023 and lasting until the end of the event. In addition, Scottie and Bettie received their Fiery style in conjunction with this event.
During this event, players could earn Event Vouchers J from battles against the Aether Foundation that could be redeemed in the shop for rewards, including Legendary Spirits that could be used to raise Scottie/Bettie and Solgaleo to 6★ EX. Event missions rewarded players with a medal for obtaining 2,000 vouchers, as well as Gems and Battle Points for completing any of these battles a certain number of times. All battles could be challenged an unlimited number of times except Daily Extreme Battle 1, which could only be challenged once per day.
This event featured the Battle Challenge, where players were challenged to defeat a team of strong opponents. Players could complete event missions by clearing these areas using various theme skills, earning medals and rewards such as a Tech and a Support Move Candy Coin.
All sync pairs with the Alola theme skill received a bonus to their Attack, Defense, Sp. Atk and Sp. Def stats when used for this event, with the amount of the bonus varying between areas.
Additionally, the music and artwork on the title screen were different than usual. From April 28 to May 12, 2023, the title screen artwork depicted Sygna Suit Hau & Tapu Koko and Sygna Suit Mina & Tapu Fini, and the background music wasBattle! (Hau) (Pokémon Masters EX Version). In addition, a special voice-over line of Hau or Mina saying "Pokémon Masters EX" would play as soon as the game's logo appeared on the title screen, chosen at random each time the title screen was loaded. From May 12 to June 2, 2023, Sygna Suit Acerola & Tapu Bulu and Sygna Suit Lana & Tapu Lele were added to this title screen artwork, and the background music was a remix of the island kahuna battle theme. In addition, special voice-over lines of Acerola and Lana saying "Pokémon Masters EX" were added to the pool of lines randomly chosen each time the title screen was loaded.

Trivia
- While Aether Foundation Employees battled in this villain event use the same name as the Aether Foundation Employees battled in the corresponding chapter of the Villain Arc, they have slightly different models, animations, and voice lines. This is likely a reference to the distinction between the Aether Foundation and Aether Foundation Employee Trainer classes.
- The 4★ medal in this event is named after the Ruins of Conflict and Ruins of Hope, the ruins associated with Tapu Koko and Tapu Fini, respectively.
