A will not learn any moves when leveled up in battle; it will only learn these moves when leveled up via Rare Candy. This is because A's moveset data is located inside the VRAM, which changes depending on what is currently being displayed on screen, and thus changes depending on whether the game is currently in a battle or outside a battle (i.e. whenever a Rare Candy is used).
