I know this conversation's six months old, But it's come up again now that it is used for some MD Pokémon, which ''can'' have two abilities at the same time. I could edit the template to have an optional ''ability2'' parameter which doesn't change the current template if it is left out if that is alright. [[User:Werdnae|<span style="color:#2D4B98;">Werdnae</span>]] <small>[[User talk:Werdnae|<span style="color:#009000;">(talk)</span>]]</small> 03:12, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

:::I've changed the Generation IV template, and previewed it extensively, so I hope I haven't missed something stupid. Do any of the Pokémon from MDRB have one? :One issue... due to the upgrade of the shadow alternate form, there's only the option of two abilities instead of one. It seems redundant if there's a Dragonite who has the Inner Focus ability or the Inner Focus ability. Hmm... maybe an ability3 parser. ==Changes==
I don't know when this template was changed, but all the PMD characters now only have one ability. What happened? I looked through the history of this page and it doesn't change much. [[User:Samjohn95|<font color="Blue">Sam</font>]][[User talk:Samjohn95|<font color="Purple">john</font>]][[Special:contributions/Samjohn95|<font color="Teal">95</font>]] 21:58, 27 August 2010 (UTC)
:What happened was that TTE upgraded the template, and that option was created after he designed it. The changes that matter are actually on the sub-templates. They're currently under cascading protection from [[Joey]] and [[Battle CD]], so I can't fix it, it'll need someone with more power than I do to edit it. Specifically, the easiest way to do it would be to replace <code><nowiki><small>Ability:</small></nowiki></code> with <code><nowiki><small>{{#if: {{{ability2|}}}|Abilities|Ability}}:</small></nowiki></code> and <code><nowiki>[[{{{ability|No ability}}} (ability)|<span style="color:#000;">{{{ability|No ability}}}</span>]]</nowiki></code> with <code><nowiki>[[{{{ability|No ability}}} (ability)|<span style="color:#000;">{{{ability|No ability}}}</span>]] {{#if: {{{ability2|}}}|and [[{{{ability2}}} (ability)|{{color|000|{{{ability2}}}}}]]|}}</nowiki></code> If no-one does it before then, I'll do it once the cascading protection expires, and it goes back to regular protection. [[User:Werdnae|<span style="color:#2D4B98;">Werdnae</span>]] <small>[[User talk:Werdnae|<span style="color:#009000;">(talk)</span>]]</small> 01:19, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
::And it should be displaying both now. <sc>[[User:Werdnae|<span style="color:#2D4B98;">Werdnae</span>]]</sc> <small>[[User talk:Werdnae|<span style="color:#009000;">(talk)</span>]]</small> 23:41, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
:::Yes, it does, thanks! It may seem small, but it makes a lot of pages inaccurate when only one is displayed. == Small change ==
Could we possibly make it so that the sprite of the Pokémon is actually in the same square as the name/level/gender? [http://takharii.referata.com/wiki/Template:Poke Like this?] (copied from BP for example purposes only). I find that some animated sprite are larger than they should be, and this makes it look neater.

== Spritegender ==
I know this was discussed in [[Template_talk:Pok%C3%A9mon#shiny]] (but it is over 6 months old), but I noticed that the sprite is controlled by both
'''''ndex''''' and '''''spritegender'''''.  Just ''spritegender'' adds the little star next to the level.
For example: <pre>{{Pokémon
|gen=4
|pokemon=Wobbuffet
|nickname=Wobbuffet
|ndex=202
|level=12
|game=Platinum
|gender=female
|spritegender=female shiny
|type1=Psychic
}}
</pre>
That gives me:
{{Pokémon
|gen=4
|pokemon=Wobbuffet
|nickname=Wobbuffet
|ndex=202
|level=12
|game=Platinum
|gender=female
|spritegender=female shiny
|type1=Psychic
}}
But:
<pre>{{Pokémon
|gen=4
|pokemon=Wobbuffet
|nickname=Wobbuffet
|ndex=202 f s
|level=12
|game=Platinum
|gender=female
|type1=Psychic
}}</pre>
That gives me this:
{{Pokémon
|gen=4
|pokemon=Wobbuffet
|nickname=Wobbuffet
|ndex=202 f s
|level=12
|game=Platinum
|gender=female
|type1=Psychic
}}
Once again only difference is there that there isn't a [[File:ShinyIVStar.png]]. So in some ways, [[User:CuboneKing|CuboneKing]] was right and so was [[User:ElectAbuzzzz|ElectAbuzzzz]]. It sure looks fancier if you use the ''spritegender'' command, but it doesn't matter for the sprite. ----[[User:NateVirus|<span style="color:blue">NateVirus</span>]]<small>''([[User talk:NateVirus|<span style="color:green">Talk</span>]]''|''[[Special:Contributions/NateVirus|<span style="color:red">Contributions</span>]]''</small>) 04:26, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

== Item parameter changes for [[/3|III]], [[/4|IV]], and [[/5|V]] variations ==
I have a request for the Generation III/IV/V templates, and I'm not sticking this on 3 talk pages: Can someone change the held item parameter from <code>[[File:Bag {{{held}}} Sprite.png]]</code> and <code><nowiki>[[{{{held}}}|<span style="color:#000;">{{{held}}}</span>]]</nowiki></code> to <code><nowiki>[[File:{{{heldsprite|Bag {{{held}}} Sprite.png}}}]]</nowiki></code> and <code><nowiki>{{color2|000|{{{heldlink|{{{held}}}}}}|{{{held}}}}}</nowiki></code> respectively? It would add support for PMD items, for example. Like this:
Instead of
{{Pokémon

== Type2 ==
Do we really need it to be <nowiki>{{{type2|Unknown}}}</nowiki> instead of <nowiki>{{{type2|}}}</nowiki> it creates another "Unknown" Type next to the actual type for Gen VI Pokemon;

== Category ==
I think that the template should be changed to include a category to the game character's page informing that the said character owns or uses a certain Pokémon; so, for exemple, Volkner's page would be included in a category like "Trainers that have an Electivire". I know it doesn't sound that important, but it would be something realy helpful, such as for searching exemples of movesets for a Pokémon. == Need an Ability3 field ==
For certain pages with Trainers that have Battle Tower/Battle Tree/Battle Maison etc teams, a field for Ability3 is needed, since they can be randomly chosen from any of the 3 Possible (including Hidden) abilities. == Broken template ==

:As noted in the documentation above, that parameter simply gets removed for mono typed Pokemon. == Using Template For Wild Pokémon ==
Most of the time, [[{{SUBJECTPAGENAME}}|this template]] and its [[generation]] subs ({{template|{{BASEPAGENAME}}/1}}, {{template|{{BASEPAGENAME}}/2}}, etc) get used for trainers ([[Carrie (game)]], [[Lucas (game)]], etc.). Sometimes it gets used for [[Wild Pokémon]], like [[Appendix:FireRed and LeafGreen walkthrough/Section 17#Legendary Beasts]] or [[Appendix:Platinum walkthrough/Section 17#Catching Giratina]]. Would it make sense to include a link to a full list of moves it can learn in that generation? I know it wouldn't make sense for trainers but it would make sense for wild Pokémon. Like link to these pages once the <tt><nowiki>|pokemon=</nowiki></tt> and creating a separate flag parameter is specified: [[Suicune (Pokémon)/Generation III learnset]] or [[Giratina (Pokémon)/Generation IV learnset]] if the parameter is set to Suicune using {{template|{{BASEPAGENAME}}/3}} or Giratina using {{template|{{BASEPAGENAME}}/4}} respectively. --[[User:Wildgoosespeeder|Wildgoosespeeder]] ([[User talk:Wildgoosespeeder|talk]]) 14:33, 6 May 2022 (UTC)

Problem with the type1/type2

For some reason, I'm getting a problem when I just delete the "|tyep2=" line. For example:

{{Pokémon/1
|pokemon=Dragonair
|ndex=148
|level=54
|game=FireRed
|type1=Dragon
|held=Unknown
|ability=Shed Skin
|move1=Safeguard
|move1type=Normal
|move2=Outrage
|move2type=Dragon
|move3=Dragon Rage
|move3type=Dragon
|move4=Hyper Beam
|move4type=Normal
}}

Gives me:

Spr 1b 148.png
Type:
Dragon Unknown
Dragonair Lv.54
Safeguard
Normal
Outrage
Dragon
Dragon Rage
Dragon
Hyper Beam
Normal

However,

{{Pokémon/1
|pokemon=Dragonair
|ndex=148
|level=54
|game=FireRed
|type1=Dragon
|type2=Dragon
|held=Unknown
|ability=Shed Skin
|move1=Safeguard
|move1type=Normal
|move2=Outrage
|move2type=Dragon
|move3=Dragon Rage
|move3type=Dragon
|move4=Hyper Beam
|move4type=Normal
}}

Gives me:

Spr 1b 148.png
Types:
Dragon Dragon
Dragonair Lv.54
Safeguard
Normal
Outrage
Dragon
Dragon Rage
Dragon
Hyper Beam
Normal

I'm getting slightly aggravated with this, it's probably due to my lack of sleep though - Slegna 00:05, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

I found your problem, even though I'm sure why it happens. Use "{{Pokémon|gen=<number>" instead of "{{Pokémon/<number>" and it'll work. --electAbuzzzz 07:32, 9 September 2009 (UTC)
Gracias. I knew it was something small and stupid. - Slegna 11:12, 9 September 2009 (UTC)

shiny

how can shiny Pokémon be shown using this template? Turtwig A Contributions Talk 22:08, 2 October 2009 (UTC)

I think it has something to do with the "ndex" section, Turtwig A. Alpha CuboneKing 22:12, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
No, actually there's a parameter called "spritegender". You can enter "shiny", "male", "female", "male shiny" or "female shiny" there to change the sprite when needed. --electAbuzzzz 22:13, 2 October 2009 (UTC)
Yep. Obserrrve on the red Gyarados's page. TTEchidna 17:35, 6 October 2009 (UTC)

Purpose

of {{Pokémon/1}}, {{Pokémon/2}}, etc... Seriously, they're not necessary. If anything, it's aggravating. The only "shortcut" is removing the gen parser. That's it... unless someone tells me their purpose, I think these should be deleted. ht14 03:19, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Ummm... Dude, when you use this template, you're actually using the subtemplates. The "gen" parameter calls one of these subtemplates. --electAbuzzzz 09:43, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
Me no comprende... I vaguely understand it, but it's ok... ht14 21:46, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

what if?

the Pokémon can have both abilities. How can that be represented? Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 00:22, 18 November 2009 (UTC)

Only one ability supported. Sorry.
People have tried to reflect two abilities on userpages, but all that ends up doing is adding unwanted links to the wanted pages...--Shiningpikablu252 00:28, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
The reason I was asking was because of this page. Apparently, Houndoom has two abilities. Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 00:31, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Could there at least be an "ability2" parameter? Turtwig A (talk | contribs) 00:42, 18 November 2009 (UTC)
Houndoom doesn't have two abilities. Its ability can be one of two things (if you saw a Houndoom in the wild, this would be randomly determined by the game). Apparently, Darach's Houndoom has the ability Early Bird. Kidburla 12:49, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

I know this conversation's six months old, But it's come up again now that it is used for some MD Pokémon, which can have two abilities at the same time. I could edit the template to have an optional ability2 parameter which doesn't change the current template if it is left out if that is alright. Werdnae (talk) 03:12, 29 July 2010 (UTC)

That would make life easier actually. ht14 03:20, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
Provided you don't kill the template in the process, go for it. —darklordtrom 04:13, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
I've changed the Generation IV template, and previewed it extensively, so I hope I haven't missed something stupid. Do any of the Pokémon from MDRB have one? (i.e. do I need to change the Gen III template as well?) I don't want to kill the server unnecessarily. Werdnae (talk) 06:02, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
Yeah, Ekans in Team Meanies can have two abilities. Turtwig's A-B-Cs (talk | contribs) 20:47, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
Done. Werdnae (talk) 21:09, 29 July 2010 (UTC)
One issue... due to the upgrade of the shadow alternate form, there's only the option of two abilities instead of one. It seems redundant if there's a Dragonite who has the Inner Focus ability or the Inner Focus ability. Hmm... maybe an ability3 parser. ht14 00:27, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
Where is this? The only cause I can see would be that something is making it so that ability2 and ability are both defined as the same thing. Werdnae (talk) 01:47, 30 September 2010 (UTC)
That's what I mean. ht14 01:48, 30 September 2010 (UTC)

Changes

I don't know when this template was changed, but all the PMD characters now only have one ability. What happened? I looked through the history of this page and it doesn't change much. Samjohn95 21:58, 27 August 2010 (UTC)

What happened was that TTE upgraded the template, and that option was created after he designed it. The changes that matter are actually on the sub-templates. They're currently under cascading protection from Joey and Battle CD, so I can't fix it, it'll need someone with more power than I do to edit it. Specifically, the easiest way to do it would be to replace <small>Ability:</small> with <small>{{#if: {{{ability2|}}}|Abilities|Ability}}:</small> and [[{{{ability|No ability}}} (ability)|<span style="color:#000;">{{{ability|No ability}}}</span>]] with [[{{{ability|No ability}}} (ability)|<span style="color:#000;">{{{ability|No ability}}}</span>]] {{#if: {{{ability2|}}}|and [[{{{ability2}}} (ability)|{{color|000|{{{ability2}}}}}]]|}} If no-one does it before then, I'll do it once the cascading protection expires, and it goes back to regular protection. Werdnae (talk) 01:19, 28 August 2010 (UTC)
And it should be displaying both now. Werdnae (talk) 23:41, 4 September 2010 (UTC)
Yes, it does, thanks! It may seem small, but it makes a lot of pages inaccurate when only one is displayed. Thanks again, Samjohn95 01:04, 5 September 2010 (UTC)

Small change

Could we possibly make it so that the sprite of the Pokémon is actually in the same square as the name/level/gender? Like this? (copied from BP for example purposes only). I find that some animated sprite are larger than they should be, and this makes it look neater.

Spritegender

I know this was discussed in Template_talk:Pokémon#shiny (but it is over 6 months old), but I noticed that the sprite is controlled by both ndex and spritegender. Just spritegender adds the little star next to the level.

For example:

{{Pokémon

|nickname=Wobbuffet
|ndex=202
|level=12
|game=Platinum
|gender=female
|spritegender=female shiny
|type1=Psychic
}}

That gives me:

Spr 4p 202 f s.png
Types:
Psychic Unknown
Ability:
No Ability
Held item:
None
Wobbuffet Lv.12ShinyIVStar.png
  --

But:

{{Pokémon
|gen=4
|pokemon=Wobbuffet
|nickname=Wobbuffet
|ndex=202 f s
|level=12
|game=Platinum
|gender=female
|type1=Psychic
}}

That gives me this:

Spr 4p 202 f s.png
Types:
Psychic Unknown
Ability:
No Ability
Held item:
None
Wobbuffet Lv.12
  --

  --

Once again only difference is there that there isn't a ShinyIVStar.png. So in some ways, CuboneKing was right and so was ElectAbuzzzz. It sure looks fancier if you use the spritegender command, but it doesn't matter for the sprite. ----NateVirus(Talk|Contributions) 04:26, 8 December 2011 (UTC)

{{{back}}} parameter

The main template needs a {{{back}}} parameter to incorporate the parameter of the same name that was put into the sub-templates a few months ago. - Chosen of Mana 03:03, 17 June 2012 (UTC)

Shiny Forme difs

What if I need to put a shiny of a different forme than normal, such as a Shiny Deoxys Speed Forme? How does this fit in the party template? -- Pringles 23:50, 1 August 2012 (UTC)

Just put "386S s" in the "ndex" parameter. Replace S with A for attack, or D for defense. Jo the Marten ಠ_ಠ 00:33, 2 August 2012 (UTC)

Ability 1 and Ability 2.

We need a switch for Mystery Dungeon as BOTH Abilities are used in these games (at least in the Rescue and Explorers). The "or" can be misleading for newcomers. Marked +-+-+ (talk) 13:52, 30 April 2013 (UTC)

Item parameter changes for III, IV, and V variations

I have a request for the Generation III/IV/V templates, and I'm not sticking this on 3 talk pages: Can someone change the held item parameter from [[File:Bag {{{held}}} Sprite.png]] and [[{{{held}}}|<span style="color:#000;">{{{held}}}</span>]] to [[File:{{{heldsprite|Bag {{{held}}} Sprite.png}}}]] and {{color2|000|{{{heldlink|{{{held}}}}}}|{{{held}}}}} respectively? It would add support for PMD items, for example. Like this:

Instead of

025.png
Types:
Electric Unknown
Ability:
Static
Held item:
Bag Power Band Sprite.png Power Band
Pikachu Lv.20
Electro Ball
Electric Special
ThunderShock
Electric Special
Thunderbolt
Electric Special
Quick Attack
Normal Physical

We get

025.png
Type:
  Electric
Ability:
Static
Held item:
MDBag Scarf V Sprite.png Power Band
Pikachu Lv.20
Electro Ball
Electric Special
ThunderShock

Thunderbolt

Normal Physical

Type2

Do we really need it to be {{{type2|Unknown}}} instead of {{{type2|}}} it creates another "Unknown" Type next to the actual type for Gen VI Pokemon;

654Braixen.png
Type:
Fire Unknown
Ability:
Blaze
Held item:
None.png None None.png
Braixen Lv.16
Scratch
Normal Physical
Tail Whip
Normal Status
Ember
Fire Special
Flame Charge
Fire Physical

It's not recommended to use that template. Delete the "gen" parameter and use {{Pokémon/6}} instead. AKUro? あくロちゃん 20:42, 24 October 2013 (UTC)

Category

I think that the template should be changed to include a category to the game character's page informing that the said character owns or uses a certain Pokémon; so, for exemple, Volkner's page would be included in a category like "Trainers that have an Electivire". I know it doesn't sound that important, but it would be something realy helpful, such as for searching exemples of movesets for a Pokémon. Suic12- (talk) 00:52, 22 July 2016 (UTC)

Need an Ability3 field

For certain pages with Trainers that have Battle Tower/Battle Tree/Battle Maison etc teams, a field for Ability3 is needed, since they can be randomly chosen from any of the 3 Possible (including Hidden) abilities. TehPerson (talk) 07:49, 4 January 2017 (UTC)

Broken template

The {{{type2}}} parameter shouldn't have a default value. --TheICTLiker4 17:57, 8 March 2020 (UTC)

As noted in the documentation above, that parameter simply gets removed for mono typed Pokemon. As for it having a default value, it's not a problem since it'll be changed anyway when it's in use.--ForceFire 05:16, 9 March 2020 (UTC)

Using Template For Wild Pokémon

Most of the time, this template and its generation subs ({{Pokémon/1}}, {{Pokémon/2}}, etc) get used for trainers (Carrie (game), Lucas (game), etc.). Sometimes it gets used for Wild Pokémon, like Appendix:FireRed and LeafGreen walkthrough/Section 17#Legendary Beasts or Appendix:Platinum walkthrough/Section 17#Catching Giratina. Would it make sense to include a link to a full list of moves it can learn in that generation? I know it wouldn't make sense for trainers but it would make sense for wild Pokémon. Like link to these pages once the |pokemon= and creating a separate flag parameter is specified: Suicune (Pokémon)/Generation III learnset or Giratina (Pokémon)/Generation IV learnset if the parameter is set to Suicune using {{Pokémon/3}} or Giratina using {{Pokémon/4}} respectively. --Wildgoosespeeder (talk) 14:33, 6 May 2022 (UTC)
