An Artist (Japanese: 芸術家 Artist) is a type of Pokémon Trainer that debuted in the Generation IV games. They are most commonly depicted as old men wearing berets and carrying art supplies. They are similar to the Painter class from Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen. In Generation IV, they use Pokémon that can learn Copycat and Mimic, such as Bonsly and Mime Jr., as well as Pokémon related to the arts, such as Kricketune and Smeargle.
In Generation V's Battle Subway, some of them specialize in Pokémon resembling decorative art, with many of these being Steel-type Pokémon.
In Generation VI, female Artists, depicted as young women holding a paintbrush covered in paint, were introduced. Similar to Generation III's Painters, Artists exclusively use Smeargle. In Double Battles, two Artists, one male and female, form an Artist Family.
In Pokémon Sword and Shield, Artists are depicted as deranged men holding clay sculptures. They keep their Pokémon in Great Balls. In the Battle Tower, Artists specialize in a mix of Fairy-type Pokémon and Pokémon that benefit from Trick Room.
In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, Artists are depicted as young female graffiti artists wearing gas masks.

Trivia
- Artists are often named in reference to real-life artists:
- Artist Gough (Japanese: ビンセント Vincent) from Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 uses a Sunflora. This appears to be a reference to Vincent van Gogh's Sunflowers series.
- In Pokémon X and Y, the Artists that challenge the player all have the first names of famous real-world artists: Georgia (O'Keeffe), Pierre (Renoir), Salvador (Dali), and Vincent (van Gogh). Artist Jasper (Johns) also challenges the player in the Battle Maison.
- In Pokémon Sword and Shield, one of the in-game trade NPCs, who uses the model of an Artist is named Kapoor, likely in reference to British artist Anish Kapoor.
- Most Artists in the Battle Maison use color-based names, such as Jade, Sienna, Rusty, etc.
- In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Artist William's name changes to Kevin in the rematches against him.
