Briar (Japanese: ブライア Briar) is a character introduced in The Teal Mask in Pokémon Scarlet and Violet. She is a teacher at Blueberry Academy, the descendant of historian Heath, and also the one in possession of the original Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV.
In the core series games
Briar is a descendant of Heath, the author of the Scarlet BookS/Violet BookV.[1] She owns the original copy of the book, which contains unredacted information on the Pokémon Terapagos.[2] As Heath was discredited for his writings in the book, Briar seeks to find Terapagos in order to prove Heath's theories correct. While waiting for her request to enter Area Zero to be approved, she leads the player and several other students on a class trip to Kitakami.
She later was given permission to finally start a new expedition to Area Zero alongside the player, Kieran, and Carmine.

Briar is introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Scarlet & Violet Series (the Japanese Scarlet & Violet Era). It was first released in the Japanese Stellar Miracle expansion and the English Stellar Crown expansion, with artwork by Naoki Saito. An ultra rare version with artwork by the same illustrator was released in the same set. This card can only be used if the opponent has exactly 2 Prize cards remaining. It allows the player to take 1 more Prize card if their opponent's Active Pokémon is Knocked Out by damage from an attack used by the player's Tera Pokémon.
Trivia
- Briar's earrings resemble the Terastal phenomenon's six-pointed star logo, her jacket and pants are colored like the Violet Book and the Scarlet Book respectively, and her jacket is also decorated with the same patterns as the Scarlet Book (on her left) and the Violet Book (on her right).
- Briar's Rotom Phone uses a Scarlet CaseS/Violet CaseV.
