Prestige events[note 1] (Japanese: ランキングイベント Ranking Event) are a type of limited-time event in Pokémon Masters EX. These challenge players to earn prestige points from event battles.
More points are earned from higher difficulty battles, and extra points are earned for completing the event battles quickly, dealing a large amount of damage in a single hit, taking little damage and finishing battles without losing team members. Using certain sync pairs increases the points earned by a specific multiplier.
Completing a battle may trigger a point boost that will triple the points earned from the next battle, as well as cancel its stamina cost. Up to three boosts can be earned each day.
Players can earn Tier Rewards by reaching certain cumulative prestige point totals. These can include story chapters, various power-up items, Gems, tickets, sync orbs, or medals. Additionally, on reaching a cumulative total of 100,000 prestige points, players are entered into a ranking against other players. At the end of the event, players earn prestige rewards based on their relative rank.

Plot
Tricia announces to the player and Gloria that the Battle Buffet Bash will be set up downtown, stating that the Battle Buffet Bash was inspired by the Battle Buffet conducted in Alola. Intrigued, Gloria and Zacian decide to participate and invite the player to join. Upon arrival, they are greeted with many Trainers checking out the different food stalls. The scene cuts to a battle between Brock and his Onix against Ramos and his Weepinbell.
Gloria comments on how amazing the Buffet Bash is, with a variety of food stalls and powerful Trainers in the area. Gloria and the player stop by Lt. Surge's canteen, in which Lt. Surge offers a yellow curry soup and the Supercharged Spark Ramen. As they are about to take the dish, a sync pair stops in—it is Maylene and Medicham. Maylene and Gloria both decide to battle to see who will get the dish, though ultimately Gloria wins.
Having won the battle, Gloria is excited to try out the dish, but before she is about to eat, she smells Octillery ink spaghetti, and upon finding out Siebold made it, decides to go for this legendary dish as well. However, as she is about to get this dish, she finds out that Steven has gotten to the dish first and it was the final dish that Siebold was serving. Steven decides to offer Gloria a chance to battle for the right to taste the spaghetti, sending out his Metagross in the process. Gloria promptly accepts the challenge. In the end, Steven's Metagross too falls to Gloria's Zacian. Steven congratulates Gloria and then departs.
Gloria promises the player at this point to enjoy their victory dishes just as Zacian leaves for another dish. They find where Zacian went—it is at Mallow's Super Food Stall. Gloria smells something sweet, spicy, and sour at the same time and immediately deduces that it is a Lansat Berry. She then comments on how common it is used in curry while camping. Gloria goes to where Zacian while Mallow and Olivia introduce the dish that they prepared—it is the Trial Z-Set Special, a new-and-improved take on Alola's famous Z-Sets. Gloria decides to grab this dish since they are there but Jasmine stops them, wanting to try the dish as well. Jasmine sends out her Steelix to battle against Zacian. Though Steelix puts a good fight, Zacian knocks out Steelix in the end. Jasmine, a bit defeated, decides to head home, but Gloria stops her and decides that as there's a lot of food, she will share the dishes she gained not only with Jasmine but with all the other sync pairs that they battled earlier. Gloria finally comments that after eating they will battle even more as the Buffet Bash has only just begun.
