-----
3 is a grassy road that leads east from Pewter City into the mountains around 4. Many Trainers can be found along the way as they raise their Pokémon for the upcoming cave.

Viridian City is a beautiful city surrounded by trees and shaded with green, as if cut from the same cloth as the forest itself.  The leader of Viridian Gym is out of town right now, so you won't be able to challenge him for your Earth Badge just yet.  According to the old man outside the building, "a young man from Pallet Town became the Leader, but he's often away".  The disappearance of Giovanni three years ago left a vacant Gym Leader position, and Blue had just lost his title as Champion to Red, so he took up the role as Viridian Gym Leader.  For now, though, the Trainer House is the only place to battle in the city.

Trainer House
Every day, you can have one battle in the Trainer House basement.  Any Pokémon above level 50 will temporarily revert to the stats they had at that level, and you are not allowed to use items, either.  By default, the only Trainer inside is Ace Trainer Cal, who uses a Lv 50 Meganium, Lv 50 Typhlosion, and Lv 50 Feraligatr.  However, more opponents can be added for each person that you interact with by using your PokéWalker.  Instead of experience points, you'll earn BP for winning, which can be used in the Battle Frontier near Olivine City.  The more Trainers you interact with, the more BP you can earn every day!

On your way out of the city, cut or surf your way to the guy by the pond in the southwest.  After telling you about his dream, he will hand over 85, a Psychic move that steals a sleeping foe's health and adds it to your own.

Head south from the city to reach 1.

Route 1
Green and rural, 1 has a back-country feel that is reminiscent of simpler times.  As you head south, you can use the ledges to bypass the fields of tall grass on your to Pallet Town.

Starfall Surprise
The southwest part of the route is occupied by a large crater, where several meteorites embedded themselves in the earth. A recent excavation project has uncovered four of these meteorites, all of which emit a strange energy. Though they are normally unresponsive, if examined while a Deoxys is in the party, their energy influences the extraterrestrial Pokémon's capabilities.
* Energy from the northwest meteorite balances out the Pokémon's attributes, causing it to change into its Deoxys (Pokémon).
* Energy from the northeast meteorite heightens the Pokémon's offensive capabilities, shifting it into its Deoxys (Pokémon).
* Energy from the southwest meteorite boosts the Pokémon's defensive capabilities, causing it to take on its Deoxys (Pokémon).
* Energy from the southeast meteorite increases the Pokémon's Speed, causing it to change into its Deoxys (Pokémon).

Mt. Moon
Mt. Moon is a mystical mountain that is known for its frequent meteor falls. The shards of stars that fall here are known as Moon Stones. Though it was once a large network of tunnels, the cave has since become unstable. Recent collapses have left most areas impassable except for one large chamber that links the two routes. This chamber also provides access to Mt. Moon Square.

Pallet Town
This tiny town is where the Red and Blue first began.  It doesn't have a Poké Mart or even a Poké Center, but it does have a Pokémon Research Lab run by Professor Oak, the renowned Pokémon expert.

A Familiar Face
Upon entering Mt. Moon, you are immediately approached by Silver. He is surprised to see you in Kanto, where he has been training his Pokémon since the previous battle. He admits that you are strong, and cannot help but to challenge you again.

Rival Battle 6
Silver's team is nearly the same as it was in the previous battle, though his Haunter and Kadabra have since evolved into Gengar and Alakazam, respectively. Use super effective moves to target his Pokémon's weaknesses for best results.

After the battle, Silver expresses his frustration that his Pokémon are still too weak to defeat you. Despite their progress, he insists that they still need more training. He decides to take them to the Dragon's Den, then hurries off.

The house on the right belongs to Blue, another former Champion and current Gym Leader of Viridian City. Blue isn't home, but his sister Daisy is always around.  If you visit her between 3:00pm and 4:00pm, she'll groom one of your Pokémon, which will raise its friendship, beauty, and sheen. After Daisy has groomed your Pokémon at least seven times, she will give you Blue's phone number, which will let you set up a rematch with him after winning your 16th badge.
Mt. Moon Square is a small clearing located on top of the mountain, where few people ever venture. A small shop is located here.

Visit Professor Oak's lab and greet the professor.  He has a gift for you, but you'll have to earn all of the eight Kanto badges first.  Once you've accomplished that, make sure to return for your prize.

If you talk to the professor, he'll rate your Pokédex for you, to give you an idea of how much work you've got left to do. There are 493 known species currently, and they're not going to catch themselves!  You can also use your Pokégear to have him rate it over the phone.
Clefairy Dance
Between 8:00 pm Monday and 4:00 am Tuesday, six Clefairy appear in the western field. Four of them begin dancing around the pond, which happens to show the moon's reflection, as a kind of ritual to honor the moon. They get startled when you approach and run away, leaving behind a Moon Stone. The Clefairy repeat their dance every Monday night.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
These pages follow the remade Nintendo DS iteration, not Pokémon Gold and Silver. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 3

Route 3

Route 3 is a grassy road that leads east from Pewter City into the mountains around Route 4. Many Trainers can be found along the way as they raise their Pokémon for the upcoming cave.

 • Energy from the northwest meteorite balances out the Pokémon's attributes, causing it to change into its Normal Forme.
 • Energy from the northeast meteorite heightens the Pokémon's offensive capabilities, shifting it into its Attack Forme.
 • Energy from the southwest meteorite boosts the Pokémon's defensive capabilities, causing it to take on its Defense Forme.
 • Energy from the southeast meteorite increases the Pokémon's Speed, causing it to change into its Speed Forme.

Mt. Moon

Mt. Moon

Chikorita If the player chose Chikorita:

Cyndaquil If the player chose Cyndaquil:

Totodile If the player chose Totodile:

After the battle, Silver expresses his frustration that his Pokémon are still too weak to defeat you. Despite their progress, he insists that they still need more training. He decides to take them to the Dragon's Den, then hurries off.

Mt. Moon Square

Mt. Moon Square

Mt. Moon Square is a small clearing located on top of the mountain, where few people ever venture. A small shop is located here.

Shop

This shop is open from 10:00 am to 5:59 pm, and offers a variety of goods tailored to the weary traveler.
