Magic Guard (Japanese: マジックガード Magic Guard) is an ability introduced in Generation IV. Three Pokémon have this ability, all from the same evolutionary line.
Effect
In battle
Magic Guard prevents indirect damage, such as from Hail, Toxic, or Leech Seed. It does not prevent status problems, but rather protects from damaging effects. Recoil and damage caused upon being switched in, such as Stealth Rock, is also prevented. Magic Guard will also cancels out Life Orb's HP deduction without negating Life Orb's power boost. Additional effects such as trapping from moves like Fire Spin and attack reduction from a burn are not prevented.
Outside of battle
Magic Guard has no effect outside of battle.
