Hidenori Kusaka (Japanese: 日下秀憲) is the author of the Pokémon Special manga. He is popular in English speaking countries for the creation of Pokemon Special.

Hidenori Kusaka became successful with this manga about the time it was released. It was immediatly decided that English countries such as America should read this comic. None of the artwork needed to be changed. It was a relatively "clean" manga lacking the usual innapropriate images for America. The manga has become famous in the United States.

In 2000, Mato caught a disease making her hand weak. She now couldn't illustrate for the manga due to her disease.
