It evolves from Bayleef starting at level 32. It is the final form of Chikorita.

Biology
Biology
Physiology
Meganium is a quadrupedal, pale-green reptile Pokémon that resembles a sauropoda dinosaur. It has a long neck; yellow eyes; a short, blunt snout; and two stamen-like antennae on top of its snout. The antennae are shorter on a female than on a male. Encircling Meganium's neck are large, pink flower petals with a yellow central pattern and white edges. It has three claws on each foot and a stubby tail.
Meganium is a sauropod-like Pokémon. Instead of having a leaf coming out of its head, like its two previous forms, Chikorita and Bayleef, it has two stamen-like protrusions sprouting from the top of its nose, each tipped with its own anther. Also unlike its previous evolutions, its irises are yellow instead of red, and its feet have three toes instead of a single one. The leaves around its neck seem to have sprouted into a large pink flower, with a yellow central pattern and white tips. Meganium has also reverted back to the color it was as a Chikorita, whilst Bayleef's main body color had become a beige-yellow coloration.

Gender differences
Meganium's petals release an aroma that calms aggressive feelings and its breath has the power to revive dead grass and plants. Its soothing, regenerative powers can even affect those who stand nearby. Meganium tends to be very docile and is portrayed as a peacemaker in the Pokémon the Series: Ruby and Sapphire episode Odd Pokémon Out!. It can rarely be found living in List of Pokémon by habitat. As mentioned in Sleep, many Pokémon tend to sleep peacefully side-by-side with Meganium. The reason is fragrance given off by Meganium's flower sooths and calms emotions of any Pokémon fighting near it.
A female Meganium has shorter antennae.

Special abilities
;Illumina Pokémon
The aroma emanating from Meganium's petals soothes anyone that comes in contact with it. It calms aggressive feelings. In battle, Meganium uses this scent to calm its opponent and remove any desire for it to fight, giving it the upper hand. Meganium's breath has the power to revive dead grass and plants.
A special Meganium is worshiped in Lental for being one of the seven guardian Illumina Pokémon. It resides in the Florio Island Illumina Spot.

Since Meganium is a fully evolved Pokémon and the final evolution of a Grass-type starter Pokémon, it can use Hyper Beam, Giga Impact and Frenzy Plant.
Evolution
Meganium evolves from Bayleef and is the final form of Chikorita.

Behavior
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)
Meganium appear to be a very benevolent and docile species. In Odd Pokémon Out, Nurse Joy's Meganium was a peacemaker and tried to stop the battle between Ash's Grovyle and a Tropius. It was also shown that Meganium could heal Grovyle prior to the battle, however this may be isolated to Grasss as Meganium is able to heal hurt or dead plants.

Trivia
Trivia
* The pattern in Meganium's flower in the sprites of Gold and Silver was different than the one in the official artwork and had only five petals. This was corrected in Crystal.
* Meganium's evolutionary line are the only first partner Pokémon evolutionary line to keep their Japanese voices in the English dub of the animated series. This is due to them having nearly identical names in English and Japanese (with Meganium even being spelled identically to its official Japanese romanization).
** In Gold and Silver, Meganium appears to have a small ruff on its neck. This does not appear in later games.
* Meganium's evolutionary line contains the only starter Pokémon, not including Pikachu, that keeps its Japanese name in English versions.
* Meganium shares the same base stats with Venusaur, just in a different order.
* Despite its Pokédex entries stating that it creates a fragrance that can calm emotions, Meganium and its pre-evolutions could not learn Sweet Scent by level-up until Generation IV.

It may also draw inspiration from pelargonium, as suggested by its name. Meganium's design may have also been influenced by Aachenosaurus, an ancient plant whose fossils were once believed to belong to a dinosaur.

The antennae on Meganium's head seem to be holdovers from Hanamogura (ハナモグラ), a prototype design for Bayleef found in the Pokémon Gold and Silver Spaceworld '97 demo.

Meganium (Japanese: メガニウム Meganium) is a Grass-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It evolves from Bayleef starting at level 32. It is the final form of Chikorita.

Biology

Meganium is a quadrupedal, pale-green reptilian Pokémon that resembles a sauropod dinosaur.

It can rarely be found living in grasslands. As mentioned in Pokémon Sleep, many Pokémon tend to sleep peacefully side-by-side with Meganium.[1] The reason is fragrance given off by Meganium's flower sooths and calms emotions of any Pokémon fighting near it.

Illumina Pokémon

A special Meganium is worshiped in Lental for being one of the seven guardian Illumina Pokémon. It resides in the Florio Island Illumina Spot.

Evolution

Meganium evolves from Bayleef and is the final form of Chikorita.

Trivia

 • Meganium's evolutionary line are the only first partner Pokémon evolutionary line to keep their Japanese voices in the English dub of the animated series. This is due to them having nearly identical names in English and Japanese (with Meganium even being spelled identically to its official Japanese romanization).

Origin

Hanamogura (ハナモグラ)

Meganium has the appearance of a sauropod, particularly an Apatosaurus. Its flower seems to be based on a type of hybrid daylily with ruffled edges and its long neck makes it similar to the titan arum. It may also draw inspiration from geraniums, as suggested by its name.

Name origin

Meganium may be a combination of mega and geranium.
