Physiology
Tsunbear is a very light blue, bipedal polar bear, with a quite furry underside and large black nails on its forepaws. On its ursine face and neck are three spikes of ice, forming a beard.
Beartic is an ursine, quadrupedal Pokémon capable of standing on its hind legs. It has bluish-white fur with a shaggy tuft at its rear. Its head has a stumpy protuberance on top, and its face consists of a long snout, beady black eyes, and rounded ears. Ice covers the lower part of its snout and around its mouth. Three spikes of ice hang from its lower jaw, forming a beard. Its large forepaws have black claws and paw pads.
Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Beartic is capable of freezing its own breath, and will create pathways across oceans using this technique. Should it get tired while swimming, Beartic will also use its breath to freeze the water it is swimming in so that it can lay down and rest. Its ice breath can create fangs and claws of ice, the former being harder than steel. It inhabits northern areas where it catches prey in the cold waters. Once it captures its prey, it freezes them with its breath to preserve. It has a ferocious temperament, which has earned it the "Snow-White Demon" moniker. In Lental, it fights with Mamoswine for territory. Despite its otherwise fierce demeanor, Beartic is known to be protective around Cubchoo.
Tsunbear can use their breath to freeze objects. They usually have fangs made of ice. Tsunbear are very talented at swimming.

Behavior
Evolution
Beartic evolves from Cubchoo.

Habitat
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)

Major appearances
Georgia's Beartic
Beartic debuted in Iris and Excadrill Against the Dragon Buster!, under the ownership of Georgia. It was first used in Georgia's battle against Iris. It easily managed to defeat Iris, as well as Iris. It was later challenged to a rematch, where it tied against Excadrill.

Other
Multiple wild Beartic appeared in The Beartic Mountain Feud!, attacking Ash and ashfr while they are on a mountain trek to Nimbasa City. It was later revealed that the mountain has two feuding groups of Beartic and Cubchoo.

A Beartic appeared in Guarding the Guardian of the Mountain!, under the ownership of Brycen. In Caution: Icy Battle Conditions!, it was Brycen's third and final Pokémon in his Gym battle with Ash. Beartic reappeared in a flashback in Certain Up, Unova League!.

In The Mystery of the Missing Cubchoo!, a Beartic was briefly mistaken as Chris's Cubchoo, which they thought had evolved. However, this was proven wrong when Chris couldn't recall it into a Poké Ball.

In Team Plasma's Pokémon Power Plot!, a Beartic was a test specimen of Colress's. It was used to fight Pikachu and Iris. It was eventually released from Colress's control when TRT stole his computer's data.

In The Journalist from Another Region!, Morgan used a Beartic in a battle against Iris, where it took on Iris and won when Dragonite was disqualified. Another Beartic appeared during a flashback explaining the history of the Pokémon Sumo Tournament on Harvest Island.

In The Sinnoh Iceberg Race!, James pulled a Rocket Prize Master from the Rocket Prize Master during TRT's scheme to steal the Pokémon participating in the Pokémon Iceberg Race.

A Beartic appeared in Bearing Down Easy!. It had a trouble controlling its excessively powerful ice breath, freezing everything and everyone around itself without meaning to. With Ash's help, it managed to learn to control its powers. It reappeared in a flashback in Ash and Latios.

Minor appearances
In the prologue of Black—Victini and Reshiram, multiple Beartic were living on a frozen tundra near the village that Glacine, Luis, Donuke, and other People of the Vale lived in. They were seen lingering on an ice shelf when a giant glacier collided with the ice, agitating them.

Origin
Origin
Tsunbear is based on the polar bear, a species of bear found primarily in the Arctic Circle.
Beartic appears to be based on a polar bear. Its flat, cone-like head and icy beard also gives it a resemblance to snow-capped mountains.

Name origin
Name origin
Tsunbear's name may derive from the 氷柱 tsurara (icicle), ツンドラ (tundra), and bear. It may also be a pun on "sun bear".
Beartic may be a combination of bear and arctic. Notably, arctic itself derives from ἄρκτος arktos, Ancient Greek for bear. It may also incorporate the word beard, from the ice crystals around its snout giving the impression of a long beard.

Beartic (Japanese: ツンベアー Tunbear) is an Ice-type Pokémon introduced in Generation V.

It evolves from Cubchoo starting at level 37.

Biology

Beartic's ice claws in battle

Beartic is an ursine, quadrupedal Pokémon capable of standing on its hind legs. It has bluish-white fur with a shaggy tuft at its rear. Its head has a stumpy protuberance on top, and its face consists of a long snout, beady black eyes, and rounded ears. Ice covers the lower part of its snout and around its mouth. Three spikes of ice hang from its lower jaw, forming a beard. Its large forepaws have black claws and paw pads.

Trivia

Origin

Beartic appears to be based on a polar bear. Its flat, cone-like head and icy beard also gives it a resemblance to snow-capped mountains.

Name origin

Beartic may be a combination of bear and arctic. Notably, arctic itself derives from ἄρκτος arktos, Ancient Greek for bear. It may also incorporate the word beard, from the ice crystals around its snout giving the impression of a long beard.

Tunbear may be a combination of tundra, 氷柱 tsurara (icicle), and bear.
