Poochyena (Japanese: ポチエナ Pochiena) is a Dark Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

Poochyena (Japanese: ポチエナ Pochiena) is a Dark-type Pokémon found early in Pokémon Ruby, Sapphire, and Pokémon Emerald.  In Pokémon Ruby and Pokémon Sapphire, you must choose a Treecko, Torchic, or Mudkip to stop one of these Pokémon from chasing Professor Birch.
It evolves into Mightyena starting at level 18.

Poochyena comes with the ability Run Away, which guarantees that you can always run from a wild Pokémon as long it does not have an ability or use a move that prevents escaping.
Biology
Poochyena, as its name implies, is a quadrupedal Pokémon similar in appearance to hyenas and canines. Its body is primarily gray with a black face and throat, paws, and belly. Its eyes are red with yellow sclerae, and it has a red nose. Its lower jaw has two pointed teeth sticking out. The fur at the base of its tail is rumpled and shaggy. Poochyena has gray paw pads on its three-toed paws.

Poochyena evolves via level into Mightyena starting at Level 18.
Poochyena have a very keen sense of smell, allowing them to find and chase their prey with ease. It takes a bite at anything that moves and makes the hair on its tail bristle out to try to intimidate its foes. Poochyena's vigorous barking attempt at opponents embodies Poochyena's cowardly nature. Known for its tenacious nature, it chases after prey alongside the pack until the victim becomes exhausted. If its victim strikes back, then it may turn tail. It is omnivorous and will eat anything. This Pokémon lives in List of Pokémon by habitat, and List of Pokémon by habitat.

NPC appearances
* Pokémon , Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire: At the beginning of the game, a wild Poochyena attacks Professor Birch. The player must use their first partner Pokémon to defeat it.
* Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness: Three Poochyena form Team Poochy. They specialize in catching criminals. The brothers chase their target until they are tired and then finish them.

When Prof. Birch got separated from Ash Ketchum in AG001, he was attacked by a pack of these Bite Pokémon (similar to what happens in Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire).

Poochyena (Japanese: ポチエナ Pochiena) is a Dark-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves into Mightyena starting at level 18.

This Pokémon lives in grasslands, savannas, and forests.

Main article: Nana

A Poochyena nicknamed Nana is first seen in Ruby's possession, one of the three Pokémon given to him from his father, Norman, when he was very young. Even five years before Creeping Past Cacnea, Nana was shown to be a formidable battler, injuring a Salamence teaming up with Kiki and Rara. While she still hadn't evolved, Ruby saw a few wild Mightyena that attacked Birch and envied how splendid their fur looked. A few chapters down the line, Ruby would obtain his own Mightyena in Dewford Town when he met up with Steven, and Nana evolved together with Kiki, who touched the champion's Moon Stone. This new evolved form saw a furthering of Nana's abilities, allowing her to perfect her Hyper Beam attack.
