items in Pokémon Duel
A Plate (Japanese: プレート Plate) is a type of held item introduced in Generation IV, primarily for use in changing the type and form of Arceus and the type of its signature move, Judgment to the corresponding type of Plate. However, it will also increase the attack power of moves of the Plate's type used by any Pokémon holding it by 20%. There is a Plate available for every elemental type except Normal, and while there exists a ??? Arceus in the Generation IV data, there is no associated ??? Plate, meaning there are 16 Plates in total. In Generation V, the ???-type has been removed from the data altogether.

A Plate (Japanese: プレート Plate) is any of a certain group of items related to Arceus. The Plates were introduced in Generation IV.

The 16 Plates are spread far and wide across Sinnoh, and additional ones can also be dug up in the Underground. The captain of the S.S. Aqua will also give one away in index number order each day; however the player must have all 16 badges first. In Black and White, two of the plates are given to the player by a treasure hunter in a house in 13. The treasure hunter will mention that he found the plates in the Abyssal Ruins, and indeed the rest of the plates can be found there. What follows is a list of what effect a Plate has when held and where they can be found in Generation IV, besides in the Underground, and in Generation V.
In the core series games
There is one Plate for each type except Stellar (and ???, though a corresponding Arceus form exists as an error handler). They boost the power of the holder's moves of the corresponding type by 20%, and change Arceus and its signature move Judgment to that type.

List of Plates
There are 16 Plates in Generations IV and V, and 17 from Generation VI to Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl with the introduction of the Fairy type and the corresponding Pixie Plate. Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduces the Blank Plate, which is a Plate for the Normal type, and the Legend Plate, which allows Arceus to change its type at will when using Judgment—bringing the number of known Plates to 19.

Engravings
|name=Fist Plate
When each Plate is obtained in Generation IV, a different engraving appears on the back of the Plate which reveals part of the myth of the creation of the Pokémon universe. No engraving is tied to a specific Plate; they will appear each one at a time depending on how many Plates the player has found so far, with the ninth Plate found using the same engraving as the first. In Platinum, after talking to the Hiker on the second floor of the Canalave Library, a book on the second floor with the engravings written in it will be left by the Hiker the player met in Oreburgh Mine during the Arceus-triggered event.

Engravings
In animation
Each Plate has a different engraving which reveals part of the myth of the creation of the Pokémon universe. No engraving is tied to a specific Plate; they will appear each one at a time depending on how many Plates the player has found so far, with the ninth Plate found using the same engraving as the first. In Platinum, after talking to the Hiker on the second floor of the Canalave Library, a book on the second floor with the engravings written in it will be left by the Hiker the player met in Oreburgh Mine.

{| class="roundy" align="center" style="background: #cynthia color dark;  border: 5px solid #cynthia color"
All of the Plates present at the time reappeared in the movie Arceus and the Jewel of Life, where they played a larger role. Referred to as Life Plates, these are a set of Plates that give life to Arceus, and also allow it to change its type. Arceus almost died when it lost all of the Plates after destroying a meteor that endangered the land that would become Michina Town. Damos found one of these lost Plates and returned it to Arceus, giving it the strength to recall the other 15 Plates. This heroic, selfless act earned its trust and prompted it to detach the Earth Plate, Splash Plate, Meadow Plate, Zap Plate, and Draco Plate, and merge them to form the Jewel of Life so Damos could make the land flourish.

The Plates appeared again in Arceus and the Jewel of Life, where Arceus used them to change its type, and almost died when it lost all of the Plates after having destroyed a meteor. In The Arceus Chronicles (Part 1), Team Galactic was revealed to have acquired a Flame Plate, which they used, along with the Heatran Saturn had caught, to power a device a that would bring back Cyrus. However, in The Arceus Chronicles (Part 2), the machine overloaded and backfired, causing Heatran to go on a rampage and swallow the Flame Plate. The other Plates appeared in Arceus's possession in The Arceus Chronicles (Part 4), with the Flame Plate also returning to it by the end of the episode. Arceus also used the powers of its Splash Plate to contain the rampaging Heatran in a giant dome of water.

The plates first appeared in the HeartGold & SoulSilver. The plates were used by Team Rocket in order to summon Arceus.
HeartGold & SoulSilver
The Plates were initially being collected by Petrel for Team Rocket's plan. After Silver stole the few Plates he had managed to find, Petrel decided to let him gather all 16 Plates, just to get them back at once later. With his Silver leaving messages for Sneasel and Weavile across Johto, Silver soon indeed gathered all 16 Plates for himself. At the Sinjoh Ruins, Gold surrendered the Plates to Archer, who used them to seemingly take control of Arceus, ordering it to recreate Pokémon of Myth. When the Pokédex holders used their Pokémon's ultimate attacks to stop the creation, all the Plates were absorbed by Arceus.

Trivia
The Pixie Plate, Blank Plate, and Legend Plate have not appeared in the Pokémon Adventures manga.
* While the presence of hidden Plates can be determined with the Pokétch application Pokétch, their exact location is difficult to ascertain. The Plate's exact location must be touched on the Dowsing Machine in order for it to be revealed.

* Plates may have some relation to shards, which are described as pieces of ancient tools. Their underground sprites likewise indicate that they are merely broken parts of plates.

* Although there is not a plate to change Arceus's type to ???-type, in the "After You Complete Diamond and Pearl" guide, in the Underground section, in the list of plates it includes "Magical Plate". The reason for this is unknown, although it is possible there was originally going to be such a plate.
Artwork
* While all plates will rearrange Arceus's Pokéathlon stats, the Draco Plate will boost Arceus's total Pokéathlon stats by 1.

Trivia
* Plates may have some relation to Shards, which are described as pieces of ancient tools. Their Underground sprites likewise imply that they are broken parts of Plates.
* Arceus has the same total Pokéathlon stats (but distributed differently) for all Plates, except the Draco Plate which has a total 1 higher than other Plates.
*Diamond and Pearl, Platinum and Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl are the only games where the player can obtain more than one of each plate in a single game.

If you were looking for the items in Pokémon Duel, see Plate (Duel).
Plates in Arceus and the Jewel of Life

A Plate (Japanese: プレート Plate) is any of a certain group of items related to Arceus. The Plates were introduced in Generation IV.

In the core series games

There is one Plate for each type except Stellar (and ???, though a corresponding Arceus form exists as an error handler). They boost the power of the holder's moves of the corresponding type by 20%, and change Arceus and its signature move Judgment to that type.

There are 16 Plates in Generations IV and V, and 17 from Generation VI to Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl with the introduction of the Fairy type and the corresponding Pixie Plate. Pokémon Legends: Arceus introduces the Blank Plate, which is a Plate for the Normal type, and the Legend Plate, which allows Arceus to change its type at will when using Judgment—bringing the number of known Plates to 19.

Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum

In Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, the 16 Plates known at the time are spread far and wide across Sinnoh, and an additional copy of each Plate can also be dug up in the Underground.

Engravings

When each Plate is obtained in Generation IV, a different engraving appears on the back of the Plate which reveals part of the myth of the creation of the Pokémon universe. No engraving is tied to a specific Plate; they will appear each one at a time depending on how many Plates the player has found so far, with the ninth Plate found using the same engraving as the first. In Platinum, after talking to the Hiker on the second floor of the Canalave Library, a book on the second floor with the engravings written in it will be left by the Hiker the player met in Oreburgh Mine during the Arceus-triggered event.

 • "When the universe was created, its shards became this Plate."
 • "The power of defeated giants infuses this Plate."
 • "Two beings of time and space set free from the Original One."
 • "Three beings were born to bind time and space."
 • "Two make matter and three make spirit, shaping the world."
 • "The Original One breathed alone before the universe came."
 • "The powers of Plates are shared among Pokémon."
 • "The rightful bearer of a Plate draws from the Plate it holds."

Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver

In Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, the captain of the S.S. Aqua will give one away in index number order during each voyage after the player has all 16 Badges, referring to them as rare treasures that he found in Sinnoh.

Pokémon Black and White

In Pokémon Black and White, two of the Plates are given to the player by a treasure hunter in a house in Route 13. The treasure hunter will mention that he found the Plates in the Abyssal Ruins, where the player can find the rest of the Plates.

Pokémon Black 2 and White 2

In Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, these two same Plates can be found at Undella Bay, which is where the Abyssal Ruins and the remaining Plates also once again reside.

Pokémon X and Y

In Pokémon X and Y, one copy of each of the now 17 Plates, including the new Pixie Plate, is obtainable and they are scattered all across Kalos.

Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire

In Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, most of the 17 Plates are found in various locations Underwater, with the exception of the Iron Plate, which is held by the special Beldum that Steven leaves for the player at his house in Mossdeep City after completing the Delta Episode.

Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon

In Pokémon Sun and Moon and Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, many of the Plates are found at the Antique Shop in Hau'oli City after defeating Nanu, while others are hidden around Hau'oli City.

Pokémon Sword and Shield

In Pokémon Sword and Shield, the Pixie Plate is the only obtainable plate in Galar. One copy of the Plate can be found on Route 8, while more copies can be obtained from the bargain seller at Stow-on-Side.

Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl

In Pokémon Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, the Plates are obtainable in the same locations as in Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum, with the Pixie Plate also now being available. Unlike in Generation IV, there is no limit to how many of each Plate can be dug up in the Grand Underground.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, held items do not exist: instead, the Plates appear as Key Items and must be selected to change Arceus into the Plate's corresponding type. The Plates are scattered across Hisui, and collecting them serves as part of the game's story, with most of them being received from notable Pokémon the player encounters.

Engravings

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, each Plate has a unique engraving, which can be read by selecting "Read text" on the Plate in the inventory.

Pokémon Scarlet and Violet

In Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, the 17 regular Plates are purchasable from auctions in the Porto Marinada Market if the player has an Arceus in their possession. The Blank Plate and Legend Plate do not exist.

Pokémon the Series: Diamond and Pearl

Plates debuted in Journey to the Unown!, where Saturn and two Team Galactic Grunts placed three of them in a room located in the Solaceon Ruins, in order to obtain the Spear Key and awaken the Unown there. These Plates were specifically the Draco Plate, Iron Plate, and Splash Plate, which power up the three types of Palkia and Dialga (Dragon, Steel, and Water) combined.

Arceus and the Jewel of Life

Hoopa and the Clash of Ages

The Splash, Flame, and Earth Plates appeared in a flashback in the movie Hoopa and the Clash of Ages, where Ghris was seen using their combined powers to create the Prison Bottle.

Pokémon: The Arceus Chronicles

HeartGold & SoulSilver arc

The Plates were initially being collected by Petrel for Team Rocket's plan. After Silver stole the few Plates he had managed to find, Petrel decided to let him gather all 16 Plates, just to get them back at once later. With his Weavile leaving messages for Sneasel and Weavile across Johto, Silver soon indeed gathered all 16 Plates for himself. At the Sinjoh Ruins, Gold surrendered the Plates to Archer, who used them to seemingly take control of Arceus, ordering it to recreate Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina. When the Pokédex holders used their Pokémon's ultimate attacks to stop the creation, all the Plates were absorbed by Arceus.

The Pixie Plate, Blank Plate, and Legend Plate have not appeared in the Pokémon Adventures manga.
