Slowbro (Japanese: ヤドラン Yadoran) is a dual-type Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Slowpoke starting at level 37. It is one of Slowpoke's final forms, the other being Slowking.
It evolves from Slowpoke starting at level 37. It is one of Slowpoke's final forms, the other being Slowking.

Biology
Slowbro can Mega Evolve into Mega Slowbro using the Slowbronite.
Physiology
Slowbro are physically slightly different Slowpoke. It now has striped, tan belly, three claws on its forepaws, and two claws on its hind paws. It has a Shellder latched to its tail in a symbiotic, almost parasitic relationship. The extra weight on its tail has caused the Slowpoke to become List of Pokémon by body style. As a result of carrying this burden, its special abilities have developed greatly. Through the symbiotic relationship, the latched Shellder grows in a spiral shell instead of a bivalve. If for any reason it loses its Shellder, it will result in the Slowbro returning to its former Slowpoke self.

Gender differences
In Galar, Slowbro has a dual-type regional form, introduced in Sword and Shield's 1.2.0 patch. It evolves from Galarian Slowpoke when exposed to a Galarica Cuff. It is one of Galarian Slowpoke's final forms, the other being Galarian Slowking. These Slowbro can also be found in Blueberry Academy's Terarium.
None.

Special abilities
Biology
Since it cannot fish anymore, it now has to catch prey. It is therefore, slightly faster than an ordinary Slowpoke, and is significantly more powerful. The most notable changes in Slowbro's movepool is the addition of physical moves, such as Brick Break, Ice Punch, and Seismic Toss.
Slowbro is a bipedal, pink Pokémon with a tan, striped belly and a rounded, tan muzzle. It has large, vacant eyes, curled ears, and two small pointed teeth protruding from its upper jaw. It has three clawed fingers on its hands and two clawed toes on its feet. There is a Shellder attached to its tail. This Shellder has a gray, spiral shell with darker gray spots and small, triangular eyes near the base. There are several spikes across the surface of the Shellder, and it holds onto Slowbro with many sharp teeth. Shellder developed its spiral form in an effort to suck more sweetness out of Slowbro's tail. If its tail or the Shellder attached to it is broken off, Slowbro will revert to its unevolved form, Slowpoke.

Behavior
Slowbro has lost the capability to feel pain due to the Shellder's poison. While typically lazy and unintelligent, Slowbro apparently becomes inspired when the Shellder bites down on its tail. While it is capable of unleashing powerful psychic attacks, Slowbro is typically rather peaceful and usually prefers not to fight. Because it can no longer fish using its tail, it instead swims to catch its prey and allows the Shellder to feed on its leftover scraps. Slowbro tends to live near List of Pokémon by habitat. As mentioned in Pokémon Sleep, Slowbro usually sleeps at the same time Shellder bites its tail. On occasion, Slowbro sleeps even when Shellder is still awake.
Used to dozing off at shorelines and lakesides waiting for fish to bite the tip of its tail, the extra burden of a Shellder turned this Pokémon fisher into a hunter, against its own will.

Habitat
Forms
Slowbro has a regional form, Galarian Slowbro, and can Mega Evolve into Mega Slowbro.
Slowbro tend to live near ponds, lakes, and seashores. The best place to find them is in Kanto and Johto.

Diet
;Galarian Slowbro
Pokémon food
In Galar, Slowbro's appearance differs due to Shellder biting its arm instead of its tail, causing a chemical reaction between the Shellder's poison and the consumed Galarica spices within the Slowpoke's body. The Shellder attached to its arm resembles the Shellder tail of its Kantonian counterpart, but is smaller, with a purple tip shaped like a stinger, and lacking visible pupils. Galarian Slowbro itself has a slight color difference compared to its counterpart, being pinker, with purple accents on its head, arms, and tail.
Due to the Shellder on its tail preventing it from fishing, Slowbro grudgingly swims to catch prey instead.

In the anime
Galarian Slowbro is considered highly dangerous for its tendency to indiscriminately attack its surroundings, the reason for which is due to its Shellder sometimes unconsciously biting down hard on its arm. Another reason is that Shellder feels bliss when biting hard enough to absorb Galarian Slowbro's poison. However, Shellder will occasionally faint from the seeping poison, and Galarian Slowbro occasionally lashes out due to the itching caused by said poison. While normally zoned out, when facing a strong opponent its body becomes stimulated, and it will sport a sharper expression. Galarian Slowbro attacks by grabbing at its Shellder's tongue, causing the Shellder to fire poisonous liquids from its tip. It attacks at speeds rivaling the quickest of known reflexes. They can also be found in the Coastal Biome of Blueberry Academy's Terarium, where Galar's regional life is simulated.

Major appearances
Professor Westwood V had a Slowbro that evolved from a Slowpoke in The Evolution Solution.

Prima used a Slowbro to help Ash get his Charizard under control in The Mandarin Island Miss Match.
Galarian Slowbro is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Shell Side Arm. It is also the only known Pokémon that can have Quick Draw as an Ability.

A Slowpoke evolved into Slowbro in Enlighten Up!.
;Mega Slowbro
As Mega Slowbro, it becomes engulfed by the Shellder so that only its head, arms, and white-tipped tail are visible. Its head pokes out of the Shellder's mouth and is surrounded by the Shellder's enlarged teeth. The Shellder has holes on its sides and an opening at its tip, allowing Mega Slowbro's arms and tail to stick out. Mega Slowbro balances on its tail due to its legs being engulfed. It can move by bouncing, using its tail as a spring. The spikes on the Shellder are now reduced to four on the bottom section of its body and the dark spare dots are only visible on its middle section. Mega Slowbro's energy has gathered into Shellder, which has increased its hardness. This allows it to act as armor so hard that nothing can scratch it. The Slowbro inside is virtually unchanged, but it gains some power and motivation from Shellder's digestive fluids.

Trivia
Trivia
* Despite it being a commonly known and accepted fact that Shellder triggers the evolution, mentioned in most of its Pokédex entries, Slowbro's evolution from Slowpoke has nothing to do with Shellder in the games, unlike how the evolution of Mantyke requires a Remoraid.

* Slowbro's Pokédex entries state that if the Shellder is removed, it will revert to its Slowpoke form.

** This is the only mentioning of a Pokémon possibly devolving anywhere in the Pokémon games, aside from a card in the game versions of the Trading Card Game.
* Mega Slowbro was first accidentally revealed on the official Korean Pokémon website on August 12, 2014, two days prior to its official release by Junichi Masuda.
* Many Pokémon are noted to evolve by two or more Pokémon combining, such as Metang being formed by two Beldum. However, the anime does not show this and simply spawns the second Pokémon out of nowhere: an example is Morrison's Beldum, which simply evolved into Metang without the need of joining to another Beldum. The evolution of Slowpoke into Slowbro or Slowking is the only time that evolution by two Pokémon physically merging is shown.
* Mega Slowbro is tied with Cloyster for the highest base Defense stat of all Water Pokémon.
** In Snap, however, three Magnemite do merge to become a Magneton.
** Slowbro's tail has an attached Shellder — the pre-evolved form of Cloyster — which grows to engulf it during Mega Evolution. This may have been an intended parallel.
* Slowbro's Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald Pokédex entry conflicts with its FireRed one; the former says Slowbro only starts hunting because the Shellder on its tail means it can't fish, but the latter states it evolved whilst hunting.
** Mega Slowbro also has the highest base Defense stat of all Psychic Pokémon.
* Slowbro's Pokédex entries state that if the Shellder is removed, it will revert to a Slowpoke. This is a rare example of devolution being mentioned in the games.
* Slowbro is the only Pokémon to have both a Mega Evolution and a regional form.
** In GO, which features both, Galarian Slowbro cannot Mega Evolve.
* Slowbro, its Galarian form, and their evolutionary relatives are the only Psychic-type Pokémon in the Monster.

Origin
Origin
Slowbro's shell and lifestyle are somewhat similar to hermit crabs, though it is physically similar to giant otters, giant salamanders, and hippopotamuses. Slowbro's appearance may also be a reference to the mythical sazae-oni, a magical sea demon of Japanese folklore distinguished by its spiny "sazae" or "turban shaped" snail shell.

Slowbro's shell and lifestyle may be based on hermit crabs, further supported by its category as the Hermit Crab Pokémon.

Slowbro's relationship with Shellder may be inspired by leeches.

Galarian Slowbro's Poison might draw inspiration from cone snails, which have cone-shaped shells and are highly venomous. The shell's position on Slowbro's arm and use for ranged attacks resembles depictions of arm cannons in fictional media.

Name origin
Name origin
Slowbro is a combination of slow and bro (short for brother). It may just be used in a general sense, or it could refer to the brotherly/symbiotic relationship shared by the combined form of Slowpoke and Shellder.
Slowbro may be a combination of slow and bro (short for brother).

Yadoran may be taken to mean 宿らん (to not lodge/dwell). It may also reference 宿借り yadokari (hermit crab) or 宿主 yadonushi ([parasitic] host).
Yadoran was named after the famous Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia singer-songwriter Jadranka Stojaković, who had worked for Konami during her residence in Japan. Her name is transliterated into Japanese as ヤドランカ Yadoranka, which is dialectal for "wouldn't you reside?". A former colleague of hers who later joined Game Freak brought her name to mind while naming Slowbro. The name may also involve 宿借り yadokari (hermit crab), 宿主 yadonushi (parasitic host), and 鈍 don (dull).

Slowbro (Japanese: ヤドラン Yadoran) is a dual-type Water/Psychic Pokémon introduced in Generation I.

It evolves from Slowpoke starting at level 37. It is one of Slowpoke's final forms, the other being Slowking.

Slowbro can Mega Evolve into Mega Slowbro using the Slowbronite.

In Galar, Slowbro has a dual-type Poison/Psychic regional form, introduced in Pokémon Sword and Shield's 1.2.0 patch. It evolves from Galarian Slowpoke when exposed to a Galarica Cuff. It is one of Galarian Slowpoke's final forms, the other being Galarian Slowking. These Slowbro can also be found in Blueberry Academy's Terarium.

Biology

Slowbro tends to live near ponds, lakes, and seashores. As mentioned in Pokémon Sleep, Slowbro usually sleeps at the same time Shellder bites its tail.[1] On occasion, Slowbro sleeps even when Shellder is still awake.

Forms

Slowbro has a regional form, Galarian Slowbro, and can Mega Evolve into Mega Slowbro.

Galarian Slowbro

In Galar, Slowbro's appearance differs due to Shellder biting its arm instead of its tail, causing a chemical reaction between the Shellder's poison and the consumed Galarica spices within the Slowpoke's body.[2] The Shellder attached to its arm resembles the Shellder tail of its Kantonian counterpart, but is smaller, with a purple tip shaped like a stinger, and lacking visible pupils. Galarian Slowbro itself has a slight color difference compared to its counterpart, being pinker, with purple accents on its head, arms, and tail.

It attacks at speeds rivaling the quickest of known reflexes.[2] They can also be found in the Coastal Biome of Blueberry Academy's Terarium, where Galar's regional life is simulated.

Galarian Slowbro is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Shell Side Arm. It is also the only known Pokémon that can have Quick Draw as an Ability.

Mega Slowbro

Silver Naturally dull to begin with, it lost its ability to feel pain due to Shellder's seeping poison.
Crystal An attached Shellder won't let go because of the tasty flavor that oozes out of its tail.

Ruby Slowbro's tail has a Shellder firmly attached with a bite. As a result, the tail can't be used for fishing anymore. This causes Slowbro to grudgingly swim and catch prey instead.
Sapphire
Emerald Its tail has a Shellder firmly attached with a bite. As a result, the tail can't be used for fishing anymore. This forces it to reluctantly swim and catch prey.
FireRed When a Slowpoke went hunting in the sea, its tail was bitten by a Shellder. That made it evolve into Slowbro.
LeafGreen The Shellder that latches onto Slowpoke's tail is said to feed on the host's leftover scraps.

Sun It spaces out while gazing at the sea. With Shellder's poison flowing through its body, it becomes even spacier.
Moon Whenever Shellder bites down hard on its tail, it gives Slowbro a flash of inspiration...which it forgets a moment later.
Ultra Sun Spacing out is basically all it does. It turns back into Slowpoke if its tail, along with Shellder, breaks off.
Ultra Moon Shellder, in its greed to suck out more and more sweetness from Slowbro's tail, has metamorphosed into a spiral-shaped shell.
Let's Go Pikachu Lives lazily by the sea. If the Shellder on its tail comes off, it becomes a Slowpoke again.
Let's Go Eevee
Mega Slowbro
Sun All the energy from Mega Evolution poured into the Shellder on its tail, leaving Slowpoke to be swallowed whole.
Moon When bathed in the energy of Mega Evolution, Shellder converts into impregnable armor. There is virtually no change in Slowpoke.
Ultra Sun Tremendous energy strengthened the power of the Shellder on its tail, but it doesn't really affect Slowpoke.
Ultra Moon Having been swallowed whole by Shellder, Slowbro now has an iron defense. It's pretty comfortable in there, too.
Let's Go Pikachu Under the influence of Shellder's digestive fluids, Slowpoke has awakened, gaining a great deal of power–and a little motivation to boot.

Sword Slowpoke became Slowbro when a Shellder bit on to its tail. Sweet flavors seeping from the tail make the Shellder feel as if its life is a dream.
Shield Being bitten by a Shellder shocked this Pokémon into standing on two legs. If the Shellder lets go, it seems Slowbro will turn back into a Slowpoke.
Brilliant Diamond Though usually dim-witted, it seems to become inspired if the Shellder on its tail bites down.
Shining Pearl
Galarian Slowbro
Sword A Shellder bite set off a chemical reaction with the spices inside Slowbro's body, causing Slowbro to become a Poison-type Pokémon.
Shield If this Pokémon squeezes the tongue of the Shellder biting it, the Shellder will launch a toxic liquid from the tip of its shell.

Scarlet When a Slowpoke went hunting in the sea, its tail was bitten by a Shellder. That made it evolve into Slowbro.
Violet If the tail-biting Shellder is thrown off in a harsh battle, this Pokémon reverts to being an ordinary Slowpoke.
Galarian Slowbro
Scarlet Shellder seems blissful over the taste of Slowbro even though the toxins seeping from the bite have caused Shellder to faint.
Violet Shellder bites down hard on Slowbro’s arm to suck out more poison. This seems to cause itching, so Slowbro occasionally lashes out.

Slowbro is playable through obtaining a Unite License. It is a ranged defender that starts as Slowpoke, which evolves into Slowbro at level 4.

Trivia

  • Despite it being a commonly known and accepted fact that Shellder triggers its evolution, mentioned in most of its Pokédex entries, Slowbro's evolution from Slowpoke has nothing to do with Shellder in the core series, unlike how the evolution of Mantyke requires a Remoraid.
Bulbanews
Bulbanews has an article related to this subject:
  • Mega Slowbro was first accidentally revealed on the official Korean Pokémon website on August 12, 2014, two days prior to its official release by Junichi Masuda.
  • Mega Slowbro is tied with Cloyster for the highest base Defense stat of all Water-type Pokémon.
    • Slowbro's tail has an attached Shellder — the pre-evolved form of Cloyster — which grows to engulf it during Mega Evolution. This may have been an intended parallel.
    • Mega Slowbro also has the highest base Defense stat of all Psychic-type Pokémon.
  • Slowbro's Pokédex entries state that if the Shellder is removed, it will revert to a Slowpoke. This is a rare example of devolution being mentioned in the games.
  • Slowbro is the only Pokémon to have both a Mega Evolution and a regional form.
  • Slowbro, its Galarian form, and their evolutionary relatives are the only Psychic-type Pokémon in the Monster Egg Group.
  • Galarian Slowbro and its evolutionary relative, Galarian Slowking, are the only pink Poison-type Pokémon.

Origin

Its physical appearance may be based on hippopotamuses, giant otters, and giant salamanders. Slowbro's appearance may also be a reference to the mythical sazae-oni, a magical sea demon of Japanese folklore distinguished by its spiny "sazae" or "turban-shaped" snail shell. Slowbro's shell and lifestyle may be based on hermit crabs, further supported by its category as the Hermit Crab Pokémon.

Slowbro's relationship with Shellder may be inspired by leeches.

Galarian Slowbro's Poison-type might draw inspiration from cone snails, which have cone-shaped shells and are highly venomous. The shell's position on Slowbro's arm and use for ranged attacks resembles depictions of arm cannons in fictional media.

Name origin

Slowbro may be a combination of slow and bro (short for brother).

Yadoran was named after the famous Yugoslavian singer-songwriter Jadranka Stojaković, who had worked for Konami during her residence in Japan. Her name is transliterated into Japanese as ヤドランカ Yadoranka, which is dialectal for "wouldn't you reside?". A former colleague of hers who later joined Game Freak brought her name to mind while naming Slowbro.[3] The name may also involve 宿借り yadokari (hermit crab), 宿主 yadonushi (parasitic host), and 鈍 don (dull).
