Physiology
Sharpedo's body is torpedo-shaped, much like the head and trunk section of a real shark. It has a large mouth filled with triangular, sharp teeth. Its body is covered in tiny, sharp denticles which reduce Drag (physics) when it swims as well as Rough Skin. Sharpedo is mostly dark blue in color, with a white underbelly. The yellow star marking it had as a Carvanha has migrated to its snout, and another star marking is on its rear. Sharpedo has a tall dorsal fin with two notches cut into it, with a Fish anatomy#Fins directly opposite it, and the two pectoral fins arranged so that they resemble the fins on the back of a torpedo. Sharpedo's eyes are a deep red color and glow in the dark. It has two gill slits situated directly behind each eye.

Gender differences
Sharpedo swallows and shoots out jets of seawater from its rear, which allows it to swim 75 to 80 miles per hour. However, it is unable to swim long distances. It is feared and known by many names as Bully of the Sea, Ruffian of the Seas, Bandit of the Sea, or Gangster of the Sea as a group, due to its sharp teeth. Sharpedo uses the teeth to finish off its opponent. It was once prized for its dorsal fin as a food item and has been a victim of overfishing. Its fangs can rip through iron and steel, being able to tear apart a supertanker into pieces. Sharpedo's fangs can instantly grow back the moment it comes off. Discarded Sharpedo fangs are made into accessories due to the belief they can prevent ship mishaps. It also attacks any ships that enter the waters it lives in with no exceptions. When its fangs fall out, they grow back immediately. It is very sensitive to the scent of blood. It lives in the List of Pokémon by habitat Sharpedo is known to prey on Wailmer, particularly small ones. It also preys on other Water Pokémon such as Finneon, Lumineon, Lanturn, and Squirtle. In Alola, Sharpedo is used as Ride Pokémon called Sharpedo Jet, the natives use Sharpedo to move faster in the water and destroy rocks in the water.
None.

Special abilities
Prior to Generation V, Sharpedo and its pre-evolved form, Carvanha, were the only known Pokémon that could have Rough Skin as an Ability.
Sharpedo's abilities are a modified, stronger version of Carvanha's. Sharpedo can now use Poison Jab, Slash, Night Slash, and Earthquake. Sharpedo are capable of swimming at 75 miles per hour (120 kilometers per hour) in pursuit of their prey, though they are unable to swim far distances. Their jaws are powerful enough to bite through metal with ease. If a Sharpedo's tooth breaks off, a new tooth will replace it immediately.

Since Sharpedo is a fully evolved Pokémon, it can use Hyper Beam and Giga Impact.
Forms
Sharpedo can Mega Evolve into Mega Sharpedo.

Behavior
As Mega Sharpedo the fangs in its mouth have transformed, and the horns that have sprouted from its nose are fangs that are retractable and can be regrown countless times. The yellow patterns on its body are old resurfaced scars that were carved in battle, causing it sharp pain and suffering. With explosive propulsion, it can exceed 125 mph in an instant. Its combat instincts were increased due to Mega Evolution. Mega Sharpedo's sharp spikes can cause deep wounds to its opponents after charging at them.
Sharpedo is a generally dreaded and distrusted Pokémon. Sharpedo moves through the sea by swimming at speeds of up to 75 mph by Aqua Jet. Despite its vigor, Sharpedo has relatively low stamina, and is unable to swim great distances. Its teeth are strong enough to bite through metal, and they grow back rapidly if they snap off. Sharpedo is driven by an unruly, caustic urge to attack and destroy anything that enters its domain. As a result of its temperament and its armament, just one Sharpedo can effectively tear apart an oil tanker.

Trivia
Trivia
* On April Fool's Day, 2002, Mizuado, a hammerhead shark Pokémon was "revealed", but it turned out to be a fake. This Pokémon was also sometimes called Samehadaa, which is similar to Sharpedo's Japanese name.
* In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, if a player surfs on a Sharpedo, it will have its own model, and it can surf twice as fast as other Pokémon. However, it is impossible to fish while surfing on a Sharpedo, with the game stating, "It's too risky to let go now!" An NPC on 124 refers to this as "speed surfing" if the player admits ignorance to their question.
* Sharpedo shares the same species name with Hydreigon. They are both known as Brutal Pokémon.
* Due to the censor that prevents Pokémon with offensive nicknames from being traded on the GTS, an English-language Sharpedo could not be traded on the GTS without a nickname in Black and White.
* Despite primarily being a Water, Sharpedo could not learn any Water-type moves by level up in Generation III, and in Generation IV onward, it only learns Aqua Jet by level up.
* Sharpedo shares its category name with Hydreigon. They are both known as the Brutal Pokémon.
* In a demo version of Ruby and Sapphire shown at Pokémon Festa 2002 in Japan, players started with a level 12 Sharpedo, suggesting it wasn't related to Carvanha by evolution, Carvanha evolved at a lower level or other means (such as an evolutionary stone or trading), or that Carvanha didn't exist.
* In a demo version of Ruby and Sapphire shown at Pokémon Festa 2002 in Japan, players started with a level 12 Sharpedo with no Ability. This was most likely done for the purpose of the demo only.
** Aside from seemingly lacking evolutionary relatives, this Sharpedo also lacked an Ability, suggesting not all Pokémon were supposed to have Abilities, or that it wasn't programmed in at the time.
* Sharpedo's evolutionary line may be considered a counterpart of Camerupt's evolutionary line. Both of them are dual-type Pokémon, both lines have identical base stat totals per evolutionary stage, both of their final evolutions are used by Team Aqua Leader Archie and Team Magma Leader Maxie, respectively, and both of their final evolutions can Mega Evolve.
* Despite being the evolved form of Carvanha, it appears in more locations than Carvanha in Ruby, the games they debuted in.
* Sharpedo's evolutionary line can be seen as a parallel to Camerupt's family. Both of them are dual-type Pokémon, and both of their final evolutions are used by Team Aqua Leader Archie and Team Magma Leader Maxie, respectively.

Origin
Origin
Sharpedo is based on a shark with the body of a torpedo. It also looks like a shark that has been cut in half. Its general body shape is also similar to an Ocean Sunfish. Both fish are known for their sandpaper-like skin.
Sharpedo appears to be based on a shark, likely the great white shark, but without the rear half of its body. This body shape makes it similar to an ocean sunfish; both sharks and sunfish are known for their sandpaper-like skin. Sharpedo's body shape also resembles a torpedo. The star on its head may allude to sharks like starspotted smooth-hound or starry smooth-hound. Sharpedo's Pokédex entry in Pokémon Moon stating that it became a victim of overfishing due to its dorsal fin being a treasured foodstuff is likely a reference to shark finning, where wild sharks are caught and have their fins cut off, and the shark is then thrown back in the water to die; because of this practice, many species of sharks around the world are listed as threatened or endangered by the International Union for Conservation of Nature.

Mega Sharpedo seems to be based on a sawshark or sawfish. Its body shape resembles a motorboat.

Name origin
Name origin
Sharpedo is a combination of the words shark and torpedo. It may also involve sharp, referring to its fins and Rough Skin Ability.
Sharpedo may be a combination of shark, sharp, and torpedo.

Samehader may be a combination of 鮫 same (shark) and 肌荒れ hada-are (rough skin). It may also be a corruption of 鮫肌 samehada (sharkskin), perhaps referring to its Rough Skin Ability.
Samehader may be derived from 鮫肌 samehada (rough skin, literally shark skin), possibly referring to its Rough Skin Ability.

Sharpedo (Japanese: サメハダー Samehader) is a dual-type Water/Dark Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It evolves from Carvanha starting at level 30.

Sharpedo can Mega Evolve into Mega Sharpedo using the Sharpedonite.

Biology

Sharpedo Jet

Sharpedo is a torpedo-shaped shark Pokémon covered with tiny, sharp denticles. It has a large mouth filled with triangular, sharp teeth. Its eyes are a deep red color and glow in the dark. It has two gill slits situated directly behind each eye. It is mostly dark blue with a white underbelly. There is a yellow star-shaped scar on its snout, and another star-shaped scar on its rear. It has a tall dorsal fin with two notches cut into it, with a pelvic fin directly opposite it. Its two pectoral fins are arranged so that they resemble the fins on the back of a torpedo.

It lives in the sea. Sharpedo is known to prey on Wailmer, particularly small ones. It also preys on other Water-type Pokémon such as Finneon, Lumineon, Lanturn, and Squirtle. In Alola, Sharpedo is used as Ride Pokémon called Sharpedo Jet, the natives use Sharpedo to move faster in the water and destroy rocks in the water.

Prior to Generation V, Sharpedo and its pre-evolved form, Carvanha, were the only known Pokémon that could have Rough Skin as an Ability.

Forms

Sharpedo can Mega Evolve into Mega Sharpedo.

Trivia

 • In Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire, if a player surfs on a Sharpedo, it will have its own model, and it can surf twice as fast as other Pokémon. However, it is impossible to fish while surfing on a Sharpedo, with the game stating, "It's too risky to let go now!" An NPC on Route 124 refers to this as "speed surfing" if the player admits ignorance to their question.
 • Due to the censor that prevents Pokémon with offensive nicknames from being traded on the GTS, an English-language Sharpedo could not be traded on the GTS without a nickname in Pokémon Black and White.
 • Sharpedo shares its category name with Hydreigon. They are both known as the Brutal Pokémon.
 • In a demo version of Ruby and Sapphire shown at Pokémon Festa 2002 in Japan, players started with a level 12 Sharpedo with no Ability. This was most likely done for the purpose of the demo only.
 • Sharpedo's evolutionary line may be considered a counterpart of Camerupt's evolutionary line. Both of them are dual-type Pokémon, both lines have identical base stat totals per evolutionary stage, both of their final evolutions are used by Team Aqua Leader Archie and Team Magma Leader Maxie, respectively, and both of their final evolutions can Mega Evolve.

Origin

Sharpedo appears to be based on a shark, likely the great white shark, but without the rear half of its body. This body shape makes it similar to an ocean sunfish; both sharks and sunfish are known for their sandpaper-like skin. Sharpedo's body shape also resembles a torpedo. The star on its head may allude to sharks like starspotted smooth-hound or starry smooth-hound. Sharpedo's Pokédex entry in Pokémon Moon stating that it became a victim of overfishing due to its dorsal fin being a treasured foodstuff is likely a reference to shark finning, where wild sharks are caught and have their fins cut off, and the shark is then thrown back in the water to die; because of this practice, many species of sharks around the world are listed as threatened or endangered by the IUCN.

Mega Sharpedo seems to be based on a sawshark or sawfish. Its body shape resembles a motorboat.

Name origin

Sharpedo may be a combination of shark, sharp, and torpedo.

Samehader may be derived from 鮫肌 samehada (rough skin, literally shark skin), possibly referring to its Rough Skin Ability.
