There are a lot of contradicting sources in the internet which state that the Nature and IVs of Shadow Pokémon are randomized only on the first encounter. After that, the Pokémon have always the same Nature and IVs of the first encounter. Other sources claim that the Natures and IVs are always randomized, no matter which encounter it is. Anyone has checked this with a hex editor or something? A little of technical clarification would be much welcome in the article. == No Speed boost in XD? ==
I've noticed the comment about Shadow Pokémon in XD having a 50% Speed boost. I have done some tests and have not seen this to be true in practice, whether the Shadow Pokémon is the opposing Trainer's or caught by the player. I have noticed the "Shadow Boost" to come into effect, but not a boost to Speed of that proportion. Can anyone else verify this? If this 50% boost does not exist, it should be removed. :Very late response but seems to be noted on this page for a XD: Gale of Darkness mod called NeXt Gen noting that Shadow Pokémon get a 50% boost to their speed and noting this has been completely removed for that specific game mod. I guess it makes sense that most players do not know about it as it is a mechanic that is never implied, much less brought up anywhere in either game. This came up again recently in my discord server. Thie 50% speed boost line should indeed be removed. I believe the only source on the speed boost is that patch note from XG I made a long time ago. I don't know what I saw at the time. It may have been a misunderstanding due to lack of experience and simpler tooling at the time, or maybe the patch note itself was was written misleadingly. I've checked the assembly code thoroughly and there is no reference to any kind of speed boost for shadow pokemon. Also there are no anecdotes of people experiencing unusual shadow pokemon speed outside of the shadow boost mechanic and a 50% boost would be pretty obvious. == Is That Really How Shinies Work? ==
I just can't believe that a Pokemon game would actually have Trainer IDs for NPC trainers, even if it's developed by a different company. I just can't help but feel that there's some other reason why Shadow Pokemon are so weird with shinyness. FlareKyn (talk) 13:33, 14 January 2025 (UTC)
A pokemon’s data requires a TID. I think that’s standard in all pokemon games.
The reason it’s weird is that they tried to shiny lock them but they didn’t code it to factor in that the TID could change, most notably upon capture.
In XD they properly coded the shiny lock as intended so it locks against both TIDs instead of just the original TID.
We’ve seen the exact code that handles these locks and the behaviour is pretty well understood now. StarsMmd (talk) 17:16, 14 January 2025 (UTC) |

Don't forget that Pokemon XD has new Shadow attacks.-Poknecyclopedia

Dull
I don't mean to come off rude, but I find this page a little dull. The lists are a bit bland, etc.
I was wondering we could add something like this or this, but not nearly as detailed. We could make it smaller with mini-sprites and remove trainer/location/both. (note this obviously doesn't include the "Other Pokémon" section)

That Shadow Spearow...
Is it me, or is that picture a horrible quality? It looks like a purple smudge in the middle of some brown. Is there any clearer pictures we could use?

I Just Found This
http://www.smogon.com/forums/group.php?do=discuss&gmid=88589 Apparently Shadow Pokémon are getting stat boosts that effectively make them higher leveled. This should definitely be added to the article. BOOXMOWO (talk) 23:16, 17 March 2013 (UTC)
Stats and Natures
There are a lot of contradicting sources in the internet which state that the Nature and IVs of Shadow Pokémon are randomized only on the first encounter. After that, the Pokémon have always the same Nature and IVs of the first encounter. Other sources claim that the Natures and IVs are always randomized, no matter which encounter it is. Anyone has checked this with a hex editor or something? A little of technical clarification would be much welcome in the article. hfc2X 16:50, 18 April 2013 (UTC)

Pokérus and Shadow pokemon
Is there a way to hack Pokérus onto a shadow pokemon. I read that pokérus can be transferred over to the game cube games but the lack of a time mechanic in the games makes it so that it doesn't run out and I read that it probably doesn't spread.
Becase pokérus is the closest thing I can think of to Shadow pokemon status. - unsigned comment from Annadog40 (talk • contribs)
No Speed boost in XD?

I have noticed the "Shadow Boost" to come into effect, but not a boost to Speed of that proportion. Can anyone else verify this? If this 50% boost does not exist, it should be removed.
