Borrowed Golduck's gender
I know Misty borrowed a Golduck in the anime and this Golduck is male. However, when shown with a Golduck in Generations 2 and 4, Golduck is male in the first times that the player battles her. However, in Misty's Generation 5 appearance, Golduck is either male or female. Since Golduck is 50-50, is this anime-based or games based? == Add? ==
I don't know where I'd add this, or if it's notable for that matter. In [M07|Destiny Deoxys]], Misty makes a cameo appearance. The cameo in itself is interesting because it's a flashback from (fibro fog; advanced apologies if I name the wrong movie) "Pokémon Heroes". So, is it notable, or not? Misty is one of my (many) favorite characters, and I was wondering if this can count as an appearance, albeit a cameo flashback. Let me know! ==Yawa surname==
I happened across http://www.answers.com/Q/Is_Misty's_last_name_really_Waterflower which has a person deny the question but instead propose that in the Japanese version of the anime series she is given the surname "Yawa" and that this is removed in the English dubs.
I'm attempting to trace when this idea earliest appeared on the net and if there might be any validity to the claim. Found https://ca.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090622135949AAEdJzf which has someone named Mathis 2 years ago say she self-identifies as this in Spell of the Unown, a film which debuted 8 July 2000.
Although I haven't listened to it, some wayback archives appear to support this idea being present at the time:
*24 January 2000: no mention of Yawa
*3 August 2001: "we at aaml have found out her last name in the Japanese version. It's Yawa. Her full name being Kasumi Yawa. Her full name was revealed in the 3rd Pokémon movie"
So while we can't call her "Misty Waterflower" or "Misty Yawa" (unless someone finds they did somehow carry it over into the 3rd film, I don't remember it) we could say the original name of her anime version is "Kasumi Yawa", right?
I'd prefer if we could narrow down the exact time in the film she says this though, so that those of us curious about verifying could go and check the raw audio to affirm she says this.
Does anyone know if any subtitles reflect this at some point? Perhaps someone with the file could share a six second clip of it on Vine.co if it exists? Tyciol (talk) 08:14, 8 November 2015 (UTC)

:Misty Williams (カ ス ミ Kasumi?) Or Misty Waterflower, in the Pokémon world, is Celestopoli's Gym Leader. Any idea where the Italians are getting these ideas? I haven't watched the Italian dub of Pokemon or anything but it makes me curious if it might've invented a surname for her.
I did notice http://mermaids.wikia.com/wiki/Misty_Williams?oldid=4050 created 6 March 2014 which could have influenced it... 12 February 2004 post at https://www.pokecommunity.com/showpost.php?p=107889&postcount=6 by BlueHiker is more than a decade prior though:
:"Misty Williams" and "Brock Harrison" may or may not have been the work of WB (they appeared around the time of the first movie's release)
I'm assuming this means around 10 November 1999 (English release) and not 18 July 1998 (Japanese release) but I'm curious if we could isolate when these "appeared" and in what context. I remember already having looked into "Brock Harrison" and I think it was mentioned in an interview with Brock's English voice-actor after he stopped working with the company? Could "Williams" have been used in a similar context?
I noticed that https://www.animenewsnetwork.com/encyclopedia/anime.php?id=196 that under Danish cast it says "Lulu Jacobsen as Misty Williams" so perhaps Denmark appended that surname?
"Waterflower" is also found in this 2015 BuzzFeed article https://www.buzzfeed.com/sarahhenrich/32-reasons-why-misty-is-the-very-best-yr75 after the 6th reason and before the 7th.
:Misty Waterflower, embarrassing people since 1998.
Fancruft or not, backtracing surname allegations like this and how they've spread is kinda interesting.
There is a 2006 discussion https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk%3AMisty_(Pok%C3%A9mon)%2FArchive_1#Misty_Williams which suggests this could simply be derived from episode 7's title "the Waterflowers of Cerulean City", however "Mattychan" then says "I think a Chronicles episode said so too."
Would anyone know what Chronicles episode he could have been referring to? I'd like to check into that. Can anyone find examples prior to EP007 of Japanese slang terms like "Suichūka" being used to refer to female swimmers to contradict the interpretation of that being the sisters' surname? ty (talk) 20:19, 30 May 2018 (UTC)
:Google translate is not the most accurate of translators, so it is not a valid source. "Williams" and "Harrison" are either fan made, or used in unofficial medium, i.e. those are not their official last names. Wateflower/Suichuka are just terms used to refer to Misty's sisters.--<span style="color:#EBC600">F</span><span style="color:#EBC600">orce</span><span style="color:#D8B600">F</span><span style="color:#D8B600">ire</span> 06:06, 31 May 2018 (UTC)
Williams
https://books.google.ca/books?id=2g8IAQAAMAAJ&dq=%22misty%20williams%22 shows that the name "Misty Williams" appears on the book "Film Review" by James Cameron-Wilson published in 2000.
2003 book "John Willis' Screen World" https://books.google.ca/books?id=ub4zAQAAIAAJ&dq=%22misty%20williams%22 has it on page 322, also.
So however it did originate, it appears to be notable and to have made its way into published literature. ty (talk) 02:09, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
:Just because it made its way into published literature doesn't mean it's legitimate. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 02:42, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
::True: while Film Review is a notable magazine which had been publishing for decades (since 1950) they could certainly get details about films wrong. It would seem strange for them to come up with something like that out of thin air though, so I was curious posting this last year who fed them that info. Afraid of Bugs

From the article: "The only Bug-type Pokémon Misty is not afraid of is Ash's Heracross"

However, she showed no fear of ash's butterfree and thought it was pretty, iirc. Should this be added in?

She may not have been afraid of Ash's Butterfree, but she was scared of it before it evolved. It's still the same "Person" so she was scared of it. Just not in that form.--Billt[[User talk:Billyt506|506 22:31, 6 July 2010 (UTC)

In the Japanese version, as she throws her ball, she often shouts "いくわよ,マイステディー!". Is this notable enough for the Trivia section. If it is, is there any English dub equivalent? --jda95 05:56, 1 February 2011 (UTC)

Misty mermaid.

In article it says how Misty has been showed wearing "hair extensions" in "Misty Mermaid" and "Cerulean Blue". Such thing has never been said or implied in those episodes and Misty has been showed having longer hair in some other episodes like "Princess vs Princess" too.

Maybe part about extensions should be edited out, because it is assumption not being known if that was her hair or not. --Pokemon fan 132 09:39, 18 April 2011 (UTC)

Future appearances.

Does Kasumi really need a future appearances subpage? Takeshi, Haruka, Masato, and Hikari don't have one, and the stuff about Mayumi Iizuka and her High Touch appearance can easily go in the trivia page. - unsigned comment from PowerfulStarmie (talkcontribs)

Episode count:

In the Trivia Section on Misty's page, it shows an episode count of how many episodes each long term female companion has appeared. It says Misty has 280 episodes.. which is a bit inaccurate. In the Original, she appeared in 273 episodes, and added on the 5 episodes she got in the Advanced Generation, she got 278 episodes. Unless the flashbacks and side stories count to, but that would effect the other girls to: With Flashbacks:

 • Misty: 280
 • Dawn: 201
 • May: 198
 • Iris: 141

With side stories:

 • Misty: 281
 • Dawn: 201
 • May: 197
 • Iris: 141

Both side stories and flashbacks:

 • Misty: 283
 • Dawn: 202
 • May: 198
 • Iris: 142

Without both Side stories and flashbacks:

 • Misty: 273
 • Dawn: 200
 • May: 197
 • Iris: 140

Please tell me how we handle the episode count. Sorry if you round it to the nearest, but considering the numbers used for both May and Iris, I don't think they are I know it does not effect the total much but i would prefer knowing how the count was handled, thanks - Waterninja12345 (talk) 13:08, 20 August 2014 (UTC)

In Japanese, Misty is dubbed by Mayumi Iizuka, in English by Rachael Lillis (and later by Michele Knotz) and in Italian by Alessandra Karpoff (later doubled by Benedetta Ponticelli).

"Misty Williams" and "Brock Harrison" may or may not have been the work of WB (they appeared around the time of the first movie's release)

Misty Waterflower, embarrassing people since 1998.

Google translate is not the most accurate of translators, so it is not a valid source. "Williams" and "Harrison" are either fan made, or used in unofficial medium, i.e. those are not their official last names. Wateflower/Suichuka are just terms used to refer to Misty's sisters.--ForceFire 06:06, 31 May 2018 (UTC)

Williams

https://books.google.ca/books?id=2g8IAQAAMAAJ&dq=%22misty%20williams%22 shows that the name "Misty Williams" appears on the book "Film Review" by James Cameron-Wilson published in 2000.

Just because it made its way into published literature doesn't mean it's legitimate. GrammarFreak01 (talk) 02:42, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
True: while Film Review' is a notable magazine which had been publishing for decades (since 1950) they could certainly get details about films wrong. It would seem strange for them to come up with something like that out of thin air though, so I was curious posting this last year who fed them that info. ty (talk) 06:04, 4 November 2020 (UTC)
Have you read those books? Why would you assume that it is referring to the Pokémon character? --SnorlaxMonster 10:33, 31 May 2019 (UTC)
I've seen a screenshot of the book which I linked above. The determination it's referring to the Pokemon characters is because it immediately follows the mention of Ash Ketchum and Mewtwo. ty (talk) 06:05, 4 November 2020 (UTC)

Outfit in Super Smash Bros Melee trophy

Since her outfit in said game is the same in the anime on her trophy, shouldn't we at least mention that on this page?TheGreenBeetle (talk) 18:48, 5 April 2020 (UTC)
