While trivial references to other dimensions were made early in the franchise's history, the concept was truly introduced in [[Generation IV]]. The Distortion World is an alternate dimension in which {{p|Giratina}} resides. Giratina stays in its {{form|Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina|Origin Forme}} in this world.
 
In {{game|Platinum}}, as [[Cyrus]] summons both {{p|Dialga}} and {{p|Palkia}} to create his new world, {{p|Giratina}} appears from there to stop him from destroying the world, taking Cyrus to the Distortion World along with it. After Cyrus is taken away, the {{player}} must follow both, and with the help of the [[Lake guardians]] and [[Cynthia]], explore the area. Two known gateways to it exist: one at the top of [[Mt. Coronet]] on the [[Spear Pillar]], and another in [[Turnback Cave]]. It is a dark place with floor-like sections floating at many different angles. The world disobeys the normal laws of physics, allowing the player to walk and surf on walls in any direction.

This realm appears as a dark void where nothing appears to exist, being the world where the Original One, {{ga|Arceus}} resides in a giant glowing appearance, possibly its [[List of disputed and unidentified Pokémon#Arceus's true form|true form]]. Although Arceus frequently appears in the [[Hall of Origin]], it is unclear whether the Hall of Origin is part of Arceus's realm.

Ultra Space is an interdimensional realm similar to space, said to exist between many different worlds via [[Ultra Wormhole]]s. It is a purplish-colored spatial realm covered with purple crystalline structures, energy spheres, electrified spheres and many warp holes leading to different worlds. The only Pokémon known to inhabit Ultra Space are {{p|Cosmog}} and its [[List of Pokémon by evolutionary line|Evolutions]]; {{p|Solgaleo}} and {{p|Lunala}} who all possess the ability to create Ultra Wormholes. Each of the linked worlds are inhabited by different {{OBP|Pokémon|species}}, [[Ultra Beast]]s and other people. [[Pokémon Professor|Professor]] [[Mohn]] had conducted research on Ultra Space and discovering their existence. Currently [[Professor Burnet]] in [[Heahea City]] studies Ultra Space.

After a fight with the player, Necrozma and opens countless more Ultra Wormholes, causing Ultra Beasts to invade. Necrozma flees through another Ultra Wormhole and into [[Ultra Megalopolis]]. The player then use the [[Ultra Recon Squad]]'s Lunala{{sup/7|US}}/Solgaleo{{sup/7|UM}} to go after it. This method of travel is called [[Ultra Warp Ride]].

The Mirror World is an alternate dimension with strong connections to the [[Reflection Cave]]. It is nearly identical to the regular Pokémon world, with the exception that the humans and Pokémon found in the Mirror World have opposing personalities to their regular world counterparts. According to [[Mirror Clemont]], the existence of portals to other worlds in the Reflection Cave is a myth, at least in the Mirror World. This also suggests the Mirror World is merely one of many different alternate dimensions reachable through the Reflection Cave. Also according to Mirror Clemont, people not from the Mirror World will be trapped inside the Mirror World forever once the sun has set, although the regular world's {{TRT}} managed to get out somehow even though they were still in the Mirror World after sunset.


It appeared in ''[[XY037|The Cave of Mirrors!]]''. {{Ash}} wandered in the Mirror World after he was lost in the Reflection Cave and [[Mirror Ash|his mirror image]] took {{AP|Pikachu}} from his shoulder. In the Mirror World, Ash met up with the Mirror World counterparts of {{an|Serena}}, {{an|Clemont}} and {{an|Bonnie}}, and later also with the Mirror World counterpart of himself. The Time-Space Axis monitoring five different dimensions in Arceus and the Jewel of Life

A dimension is any of several alternate realities or planes of existence in the Pokémon world. While trivial references to other dimensions were made early in the franchise's history, the concept was truly introduced and explored in Generation IV with Pokémon Diamond, Pearl, and Platinum

In the core series games

Portals to Dialga and Palkia's worlds and Giratina's Distortion World

Dialga's world

Dialga's world is the dimension in which Dialga resides.

In Diamond and Platinum, Cyrus summons Dialga from its homeworld and onto the Spear Pillar. In Platinum, when the player battles Dialga after entering the Hall of Fame, it comes through a dimensional rift created by Cyrus's original summoning of it. The only known gateway to exist, is the one at the top Mt. Coronet on the Spear Pillar. It has never made a direct appearance in the core series.

After Cyrus is taken away, the player must follow both, and with the help of the Lake guardians and Cynthia, explore the area. Two known gateways to it exist: one at the top of Mt. Arceus's realm

Arceus in its realm

Arceus's realm is an alternate dimension said to be beyond both time and space. This realm appears as a dark void where nothing appears to exist, being the world where the Original One, Arceus resides in a giant glowing appearance, possibly its true form. Although Arceus frequently appears in the Hall of Origin, it is unclear whether the Hall of Origin is part of Arceus's realm.

In Pokémon Legends: Arceus, the player is suddenly brought to Arceus's realm where it welcomes them, transforms their phone into the Arc Phone and then sends them back in time to the Hisui region, with the goal of seeking out all Pokémon.

Its anime counterpart is known as Arceus's world.

Ultra Space

Ultra Space

Ultra Space is an interdimensional realm similar to space, said to exist between many different worlds via Ultra Wormholes. It is a purplish-colored spatial realm covered with purple crystalline structures, energy spheres, electrified spheres and many warp holes leading to different worlds. The only Pokémon known to inhabit Ultra Space are Cosmog and its Evolutions; Solgaleo and Lunala who all possess the ability to create Ultra Wormholes. Each of the linked worlds are inhabited by different Pokémon, Ultra Beasts and other people. Professor Mohn had conducted research on Ultra Space and discovering their existence. Currently Professor Burnet in Heahea City studies Ultra Space.

Prior to the events of Pokémon Sun and Moon, Mohn of the Aether Foundation had done research on Ultra Wormholes and Ultra Space, before disappearing, leaving only some papers on Nihilego and Ultra Space, as well as a weakened Cosmog. During the events of the story, Aether President Lusamine forces Nebby, to use its power and open countless Ultra Wormholes all over Alola, allowing Ultra Beasts to invade from their homeworld. While Lusamine and Guzma leave through an Ultra Wormhole themselves, traveling to Ultra Space. During the game's climax Nebby, now as a SolgaleoS/LunalaM opens another Ultra Wormhole at Poni's altar at Vast Poni Canyon so that Lillie and the player can save Lusamine and Guzma. In the post game, the can travel through a dimensional rift and back through an Ultra Wormhole to an alternate Alola, allowing them catch a new Cosmog.

In Pokémon Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, Lusamine instead uses Nebby to open a single Ultra Wormhole so she and Guzma can travel to Ultra Space to capture Necrozma. Like in Sun and Moon, Lillie and the player ask Nebby to take them to Ultra Space, however, as Nebby is about to help, a new Ultra Wormhole emerges before it. Lusamine and Guzma are spat out of the warp hole as Necrozma follows, initiating battle with Nebby and absorbs its light, turning into Dusk ManeUS/Dawn WingsUM. After a fight with the player, Necrozma and opens countless more Ultra Wormholes, causing Ultra Beasts to invade. Necrozma flees through another Ultra Wormhole and into Ultra Megalopolis. The player then use the Ultra Recon Squad's LunalaUS/SolgaleoUM to go after it. This method of travel is called Ultra Warp Ride.

In the anime, a counterpart of Ultra Megalopolis is known as Poipole's world. An exclusive unnamed world is shown inhabited by an unknown Ultra Beast.

The player can travel to different worlds through Ultra Warp Ride including:

  • Ultra Deep Sea: A dark, rocky cave-like world. The only known inhabitants of Ultra Deep Sea are Nihilego.
  • Ultra JungleUS: A jungle-like world full of volcanoes, normal and muscled-looking trees. The only known inhabitants of Ultra Jungle are Buzzwole.
  • Ultra Desert UM: A whitish desert-like world with many rock-like structures and crystals, similar to buildings. The only known inhabitants of Ultra Desert are Pheromosa.
  • Ultra Plant: A dark world full of mountains and in constant thunderstorms. The only known inhabitants of Ultra Plant are Xurkitree of several different sizes.
  • Ultra ForestUS: A Japanese-looking forest-like world full of nature, rocks and sand. The only known inhabitants of Ultra Forest are Ultra Forest Kartenvoys and Kartana.
  • Ultra CraterUM: A huge yellowish world full of craters and gases coming out of the ground. The only known inhabitants of Ultra Crater are Celesteela.
  • Ultra Ruin: A ruined, futuristic version of Hau'oli City in the Alola region. The only known inhabitants of Ultra Ruin are an unnamed suited man and Guzzlord.

The Ghost World or spirit world is a location that is home to many Ghost type Pokémon and human ghosts and also implied to be the afterlife of the Pokémon universe. It is known to emit electrical or radio waves.

It has never appeared in the games, but is mentioned in all of Dusknoir's Pokédex entries and in the Japanese name of the Reaper Cloth (れいかいのぬの Spirit World Cloth), confirming its existence and a strong relation with Dusknoir.

The Pokémon Dream World is an alternate dimension that can acessed by Pokémon when they fall asleep, supposedly connected to the Interdream Zone, which is said to be located between dreams and reality. The Dream World is a paradise-like dimension full of plants, always sunny, and composed of many different floating islands. Many Pokémon can be found in the Dream World.

The Dream world is the main research of Fennel

The Dream World appeared in Pokémon Adventures as where Reshiram and Zekrom are sent to after they return to their stone forms.

The Interdream Zone

The Interdream Zone is an alternate dimension located between dreams and reality. It takes many different appearances, but always possesses Dream Orbs and Dream Clouds floating around in the air. It is inhabited by several different Pokémon, most notably the Therian Formes of Tornadus, Thundurus, and Landorus, who are said to have been born there.

In Pokémon Dream Radar, it is explored and researched by Professor Burnet and her unnamed assistant, catching as many Pokémon in it they can.

In Pokémon Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun, and Ultra Moon, it is briefly mentioned by a Scientist at the Dimensional Research Lab in Heahea City, which is led by Professor Burnet, who now researches dimensions other than it in Alola, such as Ultra Space.

Voidlands

Main article: Voidlands

The Voidlands is a realm that appears in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon. It is where the spirits of Pokémon who are turned to stone by Dark Matter are sent to. Beings known as Void Shadows inhabit this dimension.

In the anime

Unown Dimension

Unown in the Unown Dimension

While researching ruins with depictions of the Unown, Spencer Hale was transported into this dimension. His daughter, Molly, inherited a puzzle box found there that gave her contact with the Unown, which granted her wishes. Such was the strength of the world she created, that an opening to the dimension appeared in the entrance hall of her mansion. During this time, the Unown gained powerful control over Greenfield, but all contact with the dimension ended after Molly wished for things to go back to the way they had been before. A portal to the dimension was opened above Mt. Silver some time later, and an Unown fell out, but it had no trouble returning when it was in good health. The Unown Dimension also became the battleground of Dialga and Palkia, before their battle moved to Alamos Town.

Travel between the Unown Dimension and the real Pokémon world has been shown to be possible through a puzzle box and a portal. The direct connection between ancient sites like the Ruins of Alph and Solaceon Ruins and their large concentrations of Unown remains a curiosity amongst Scientists.

Ghost World

In the anime an entrance to the Ghost World appeared in Ghoul Daze!, where the Pokémon Summer Academy staff accidentally opened a portal to it when renovating the Summit Ruins. A ghost girl and Dusknoir were both let out, with the Dusknoir trying to take the ghost girl back to the Ghost World, while she was trying to abduct people and take them to the Ghost World. Another entrance appeared in Scare at the Litwick Mansion!, where the Litwick in Litwick Mansion tried to lead Ash and his friends there while draining their life energy.

Dialga's world

Temporal World

This dimension was mentioned in Arceus and the Jewel of Life. It is the home of Dialga.

Dialga and Palkia's worlds are usually far away from each other. During the events of The Rise of Darkrai, the two worlds began to converge. Due to shock waves caused by Arceus awakening from its deep slumber, the two worlds clashed, resulting in a battle between Dialga and Palkia, because each Pokémon thought that the other was trespassing onto its territory. The battle subsided a short time before Arceus woke up.

The Time-Space Axis device in Michina Town is able to indicate the condition of every minute change in the time-space continuum, serving to mirror the movements of the time-space dimensions and thus monitoring the likelihood of potential cataclysm.

Palkia's world

This dimension was mentioned in Arceus and the Jewel of Life. It is the home of Palkia.

This dimension appears in Giratina and the Sky Warrior as where the Legendary Pokémon Giratina inhabits. It is capable of opening portals there through reflections such as in glasses or lakes to come to the Pokémon world.

Arceus's world

Arceus's world

Arceus was said to have its own dimension in Arceus and the Jewel of Life. It slumbered there for hundreds of years after being "betrayed" by Damos, who refused to give the Jewel of Life back to it and attacked it.

Lake guardians' dimensions

In the anime, the lake guardians are said to each inhabit their own dimension linked to the three lakes of Sinnoh: Uxie lives in Lake Acuity's, Mesprit lives in Lake Verity's and Azelf in Lake Valor's.

These dimensions are never seen in the anime.

Ultra Space

Ultra Space is an alternate space said to exist between many different dimensions, including some exclusive to the anime.

  • Ultra Deep Sea: A purplish blue space full of floating crystal islands and structures. It is only inhabited by Nihilego.
  • Poipole's world: A flowery, mountainous world with rocky nests where Poipole and Naganadel (including Ash's) live in.
  • Ultra Ruin: An alternate version of Alola that was ruined by a Guzzlord. It is inhabited by many different Pokémon, including a Zeraora and many humans including Dia and the Ultra Rangers.
  • Unidentified world: A reddish crystallized world. It is inhabited by an unseen Ultra Beast.

Deoxys's world

Ash and his friends were transported into the Togepi Paradise, a dimension connected by several gateways throughout the Mirage Kingdom, in A Togepi Mirage!.

Deoxys's unnamed world appeared in Pokémon Ranger - Deoxys' Crisis! Part 1 and Part 2.

Ash and his friends visited the Mirror World, an alternate dimension with strong connections to the Reflection Cave, in The Cave of Mirrors!.

In the short film Pikachu, What’s This Key?, Pikachu and his Pokémon friends travel to numerous dimensions:

  • Klefki's world, a realm where Klefki keeps a collection of keys that unlock portals to other dimensions.
  • A dimension with bouncy clouds and pillars of stacked boulders, inhabited by Victini.
  • A dimension full of ice and snow, home to multiple Pokémon, including Jirachi.
  • A watery dimension with floating spheres of water, home to Manaphy (among other Pokémon).
  • A red-and-black dimension, home to Darkrai.

In The Gates of Warp! and Showdown at the Gates of Warp!, Ash and his friends visited an alternate world version of Sinnoh through gateways opened by Palkia.

Pokémon Dream World

Sinjoh Ruins

Main article: Sinjoh Ruins

In All About Arceus VI, Pryce revealed that the Sinjoh Ruins are located in a pocket dimension connecting Johto and Sinnoh, which is why they can only be accessed by those accompanied by Arceus. While trapped within the Ilex Forest shrine, Pryce had foreseen a future where a battle between Dialga, Palkia, and Giratina would destroy the ruins and the two regions they were connected to with them. The ruins were eventually saved when Gold managed to restore Arceus's lost faith in humanity and make it stop the battle.

Pokémon Dream World

In Pink Slip, Fennel revealed that the Dragon Stones are connected to the Pokémon Dream World. In Abyssal Ruins, N and White were sucked into the Dream World, where they found Black, who had wound up there after being absorbed into the Light Stone two years earlier. In the next chapter, all three of them escaped from the Dream World. In this realm, they were able to hear Reshiram's voice talking to them.
