Mauville City
After passing through Meteor Falls, turn eastward and follow Rusturf Tunnel back to Mauville City. If you don't have it already, it is a good idea to visit Rydel's Cycles and swap out the Mach Bike for the Acro Bike. The upcoming terrain is harsh, and while the Mach Bike can reach some areas, the Acro Bike allows you to fully explore the rough landscape without making multiple visits.

With the VI, you can finally venture into the windswept desert on 111. The powerful sandstorm deters most would-be explorers, so no one has yet claimed the valuable treasures lying among the dunes.
Route 112 (South)
Team Magma/Team Aqua has taken Professor Cozmo's Meteorite to Mt. Chimney, and the only way to follow is by cable car. When you return to 112, you find that the two Grunts are no longer blocking the base station. Enter the building and speak to the attendant to ride the cable car to the summit.

Mt. Chimney
Mt. Chimney is a massive volcano located in the heart of Hoenn's largest landmass. Although their intentions are not yet clear, Team Magma/Team Aqua is determined to use Professor Cozmo's Meteorite here in the next stage of their campaign.

Relic Recovery!
Steer Clear of the Skirmishes
The unending sandstorm seems to have uncovered two treasures from the ancient past in the desert's northeast corner. The Root and Claw Fossils belong to two species that once lived in the primordial ocean. The researchers at Devon Corporation back in Rustboro are able to revive any Fossil they receive into a long-lost Pokémon. The Root Fossil becomes the Lileep, while the Claw Fossil turns into the Anorith. Removing either one from their resting place causes the other to sink into the sand, so choose carefully!
Under normal circumstances, visitors would be able to travel southward through Jagged Pass, down the mountainside to Lavaridge Town. At the moment, however, Grunts from Team Magma and Team Aqua are locked in battle all over the summit, including at the entrance to the mountain pass. Let the fighting continue as you climb northward to the crater.

Desert Ruins
On the uppermost level, you find Archie/Maxie fighting off a group of opposing Grunts. If you speak to him, he begs you to stop the villainous team, explaining that they intend to use the Meteorite's power to cause the volcano's eruption/extinction!
The unusual arrangement of stones to the south is known as the Desert Ruins. It is believed to mark the resting place of a legendary Pokémon. But with the entrance sealed, you won't be able to investigate until later.

Back to Petalburg City
Continue to the Crater
Now that you've claimed your fourth Badge and combed the desert for treasure, your next stop is Petalburg City. The city is far to the southwest, but there are multiple ways to get there.
To the northwest, there is a single Grunt standing guard. Defeat him and continue north to face off against an Admin, who isn't about to let you pass by so easily!
* Head northwest around the volcano to Fallarbor Town, then south through Meteor Falls to return to Rustboro.
* Go south from the desert to Mauville City, then west to Verdanturf Town. Cut through Rusturf Tunnel to return to Rustboro.
Once in Rustboro, be sure to stop by Devon Corporation on the way to have the researchers there revive your Fossil Pokémon.

The Petalburg Gym, which specializes in Normal Pokémon, is styled as a traditional dojo with multiple rooms. Each room has a single Trainer who uses special items to gain the upper hand in battle. The sign on each door gives a clue to the strategy of the Trainer in the room behind it. The first two rooms beyond the lobby are labeled "Speed" and "Accuracy". The three rooms farther on are named "Zero Reduction", "Defense", and "Recovery". The final two rooms before the Gym Leader are labeled "Strength" and "One-Hit KO". A minimum of three Gym Trainers must be defeated to reach the Gym Leader. Fighting types like Machop and Makuhita will give you the upper hand here.

In the final room, your father has been waiting for you. Now that you have earned four other Badges, he is now ready to accept your challenge. Norman leads with the first of his two Slaking. Slaking usually leads with Yawn; if you switch out your Pokémon to keep it from falling Sleep, your next Pokémon will be safe from attack. This is due to Slaking's Ability, Truant, which prevents it from attacking every other turn. However, his Vigoroth has no such problem. In fact, the Pokémon is so restless that it can't sleep, due to its Vital Spirit Ability. All three of Norman's Pokémon know Facade, which doubles in power if the user is Burned, Poisoned, or Paralysis, though the Attack penalty incurred by sustaining a Burn still applies. While Ghost Pokémon are usually unaffected by Normal-type attacks, and vice-versa, Norman's entire team can use Faint Attack to deal serious damage to such Pokémon.
Battle with the Boss
The Admin is defeated, but the real threat is still ahead. Turn east toward the crater to find the villainous team's leader standing next to a machine fitted with the stolen Meteorite. Speak to him to learn more about his group's plans.

VS Maxie
Maxie reveals Team Magma's goal of expanding the landmass for the good of all Pokémon. He intends to use the machine to amplify the Meteorite's power, causing the volcanic activity to intensify. In time, the expelled lava will cool and harden, creating new lands for Pokémon to evolve and people to advance. He can't allow a child to get in the way, and draws you into battle.

Afterwards, your father awards you the Balance, which boosts your Pokémon's Defense by 10% and enables the use of Surf in the field. He also hands you 42 as a gift. Norman then remembers that Wally's parents stopped by a short time ago, looking for you. Visit them in their home next to the Gym, and Wally's father gives you 03 as thanks for helping the young Trainer. In battle, Surf is a strong Water attack; in the field, it allows you to cross bodies of water.
VS Archie
Surf's Up!
When you're ready to cross the river, approach the beach and use Surf. Hop on your seafaring Pokémon's back to glide across the water. While Surfing, it is impossible to use the field moves Cut, Strength, or Rock Smash; however, Fly Waterfall Dive are allowed. The Itemfinder can't be used while crossing the waves, but you can use an Escape Rope or a fishing rod while doing so.
Get Good with a Good Rod
The Fisherman on the river's eastern bank believes that Good Rods are really good. Agree with his statement to receive your very own III, a mid-level fishing rod that can catch even more kinds of Pokémon than the III.

Gabby and Ty
After your first interview on the south side of 111, the intrepid news team can be found searching for their next story on the eastern bank of 118's river. Accept their challenge to another Double Battle and be sure to give them a great interview when the dust settles!

Meet up with Steven
The Escape
As you leave the beach, you are noticed by Steven. He hasn't seen you since your first meeting in Granite Cave, and is pleased to see how much you have grown as a Trainer. He wonders if you will raise Pokémon of all types, or only a certain one.
Defeated, Maxie/Archie reluctantly gives up on his plans for Mt. Chimney, but declares that his group will still prevail. He and his subordinates make their escape, and Archie/Maxie catches up to you a moment later. He thanks you for your help, and vows that his group will continue fighting against the other's destructive plans. After he leaves, examine the machine to retrieve the Meteorite for Professor Cozmo.

Route 119
Jagged Pass
Known for its sweltering heat and sudden rainfalls, the spacious 119 runs north from 118 to Fortree City. The area is filled with patches of tall grass, which hide Trainer and wild Pokémon alike. The extreme weather conditions make this an ideal setting for the Weather Institute, located on the north end of this tropical rainforest.
Jagged Pass was formed as the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. When the lava cooled, it proved to be suitable as an alternate route to the summit. Southbound travel involves simply jumping down from one level to the next, but traveling northward over the rough terrain requires the Acro Bike.

The Mimic Circle
Lavaridge Town
A handful of Trainers in the southernmost patch of long grass like to copy the movements of any Trainer passing by, collectively earning them the "Mimic Circle" nickname. They move when you do, so outmaneuver them to pin them down and start battling. Each one remains in a certain area, which gives you a chance to corner them.

Rest Stop
Nestled at the foot of Mt. Chimney, Lavaridge Town is well-known throughout Hoenn for its hot springs, and is a popular destination for elderly people because of it. The Herb Shop offers bitter yet beneficial medicines for Pokémon. The Lavaridge Gym, fourth in the Hoenn League, stands in the southwest part of town.
A small cabin stands beyond the patch of long grass. Speak to the kind woman inside, and she'll let you and your Pokémon take a quick break to restore their health.

Weather Institute
{| class="expandable" style="margin: auto; background: #D57236; roundy; border: 5px solid #F4A460;"
Located on the north end of the route, the Weather Institute is a high-tech facility used to study and research the intricacies of weather patterns across Hoenn. This research seems to have attracted the attention of Team Magma/Team Aqua, as several Grunts have been stationed outside.

Rest and Restore Health
Pokémon Center
Visit the back room to find some Team Magma/Team Aqua Grunts searching the place. Before battling them, head to the northwest room to find a comfy bed and rest your Pokémon before continuing on. There is also a PC here in case you should need to reorganize your team.
A back door to the Pokémon Center leads to a small pool. Magma from the nearby volcano heats underground veins of water, causing them to appear at the surface as these hot springs. The locals believe that these waters calm tension, relieve muscle ache, solve romantic problems, and attract money.

Looking for Answers
In front of the hot springs, there is an area for sand bathing, where visitors can cover themselves in mineral-rich sand heated by the nearby volcano. The heat and weight of this sand makes for a sauna-like experience. An elderly woman can be found standing nearby. She recently found a Pokémon Egg and has been keeping it covered in the warm sands to help it hatch, but it doesn't seem to be working. Speak to her with no more than five Pokémon in your party, and she offers the Egg to you in the hopes that you will have better luck.
When you reach the second floor, you find the source of the disturbance: Magma Admin Courtney/Aqua Admin Shelly is harassing the researchers! She is here looking for information about extreme weather conditions, and to steal one of the Institute's Castform, a rare species of Pokémon. She can't allow you to meddle in the team's plans, and draws you into battle.

Herb Shop
An Herb Shop on the south side of town offers several different types of herbal medicine. These natural remedies have the same effects as traditional medicines for a less expensive price. However, they are also very bitter and will cause a Pokémon's friendship to decrease when consumed.

The Admin simply shrugs off her defeat, claiming that the team has other plans before she and the Grunts leave the building. As thanks for your help, one of the researchers even rewards you with a new Pokémon, Castform, which changes its type and appearance based on the current weather.

Rival Battle 3
The multi-level Gym is modeled on a bathhouse, with many puddles of water formed by the dense steam. Challengers must navigate by falling through puddles found on 1F to reach the lower floor, and by triggering hidden geysers to be launched back to the upper floor.
Leave the building and cross the upper bridge. May/Brendan catches up to you when you reach the nearest stairway. Your friend wants to see how much stronger you've become, and wastes no time challenging you to a battle!
* 1F (Southeast): Kindler Cole hides in the eastern pool. Step on the western puddle to fall to the south side of B1F. Step on the western geyser.
* 1F (Southwest): Cooltrainer Zane hides in the northeast pool. Drop down through the northwest puddle, then trigger the next geyser.
* 1F (West): Kindler Axle hides in the east-central pool. Jump down through the west-central puddle, then step on the next geyser.
* 1F (Northwest): Battle Girl Sadie hides in the northwest pool. Drop down through the northeast puddle to fall to the north side of B1F. Trigger the eastern geyser.
* 1F (Northeast): Kindler Andy hides in the northwest pool. Jump down through the southwest puddle. Step on the final geyser to reach the Gym Leader's room.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire.
These pages follow the original Game Boy Advance iteration, not Pokémon Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire. The guide for those games can be found here.

Route 112 (South)

Team MagmaR/Team AquaS has taken Professor Cozmo's Meteorite to Mt. Chimney, and the only way to follow is by cable car. When you return to Route 112, you find that the two Grunts are no longer blocking the base station. Enter the building and speak to the attendant to ride the cable car to the summit.

Mt. Chimney

Mt. Chimney

Mt. Chimney is a massive volcano located in the heart of Hoenn's largest landmass. Although their intentions are not yet clear, Team MagmaR/Team AquaS is determined to use Professor Cozmo's Meteorite here in the next stage of their campaign.

Steer Clear of the Skirmishes

Under normal circumstances, visitors would be able to travel southward through Jagged Pass, down the mountainside to Lavaridge Town. At the moment, however, Grunts from Team Magma and Team Aqua are locked in battle all over the summit, including at the entrance to the mountain pass. Let the fighting continue as you climb northward to the crater.

On the uppermost level, you find ArchieR/MaxieS fighting off a group of opposing Grunts. If you speak to him, he begs you to stop the villainous team, explaining that they intend to use the Meteorite's power to cause the volcano's eruptionR/extinctionS!

Continue to the Crater

To the northwest, there is a single Grunt standing guard. Defeat him and continue north to face off against an Admin, who isn't about to let you pass by so easily!

VS TabithaR

VS MattS

Battle with the Boss

The Admin is defeated, but the real threat is still ahead. Turn east toward the crater to find the villainous team's leader standing next to a machine fitted with the stolen Meteorite. Speak to him to learn more about his group's plans.

VS MaxieR

Maxie reveals Team Magma's goal of expanding the landmass for the good of all Pokémon. He intends to use the machine to amplify the Meteorite's power, causing the volcanic activity to intensify. In time, the expelled lava will cool and harden, creating new lands for Pokémon to evolve and people to advance. He can't allow a child to get in the way, and draws you into battle.

VS ArchieS

Archie reveals Team Aqua's goal of expanding the sea for the good of all Pokémon. He intends to use the machine to amplify the Meteorite's power, causing all volcanic activity to end. In time, the crater will cool and fill with rainwater, forming a new habitat in which future Pokémon species can evolve. He can't allow a child to get in the way, and draws you into battle.

The Escape

Defeated, MaxieR/ArchieS reluctantly gives up on his plans for Mt. Chimney, but declares that his group will still prevail. He and his subordinates make their escape, and ArchieR/MaxieS catches up to you a moment later. He thanks you for your help, and vows that his group will continue fighting against the other's destructive plans. After he leaves, examine the machine to retrieve the Meteorite for Professor Cozmo.

Jagged Pass

Jagged Pass

Jagged Pass was formed as the result of an ancient volcanic eruption. When the lava cooled, it proved to be suitable as an alternate route to the summit. Southbound travel involves simply jumping down from one level to the next, but traveling northward over the rough terrain requires the Acro Bike.

Lavaridge Town

Lavaridge Town

Nestled at the foot of Mt. Chimney, Lavaridge Town is well-known throughout Hoenn for its hot springs, and is a popular destination for elderly people because of it. The Herb Shop offers bitter yet beneficial medicines for Pokémon. The Lavaridge Gym, fourth in the Hoenn League, stands in the southwest part of town.

Pokémon Center

A back door to the Pokémon Center leads to a small pool. Magma from the nearby volcano heats underground veins of water, causing them to appear at the surface as these hot springs. The locals believe that these waters calm tension, relieve muscle ache, solve romantic problems, and attract money.

Herb Shop

An Herb Shop on the south side of town offers several different types of herbal medicine. These natural remedies have the same effects as traditional medicines for a less expensive price. However, they are also very bitter and will cause a Pokémon's friendship to decrease when consumed.

Herb Shop

Speak to the elderly man near the counter to receive a piece of Charcoal, which boosts the power of Fire-type moves by 10%.

After the battle, Flannery awards you the Heat Badge, which ensures the obedience of all Pokémon up to level 50 and enables the use of Strength in the field. She also gives you TM50 (Overheat) as a prize.

Destination: Desert!

Outside, May/Brendan is impressed with your victory over the Lavaridge Gym. Since you are clearly a capable Trainer, she/he hands you the Go-Goggles, a piece of protective eyewear that allows the wearer to explore the desert of Route 111 despite the raging sandstorm. The young Trainer then heads off to challenge your father, Norman, at the Petalburg Gym.
