Night Shade (Japanese: ナイトヘッド Night Head) is a damage-dealing Ghost move introduced in Generation I. It is TM042 in Generation IX. Prior to Generation II, it was the signature move of Gastly's evolutionary line.

Effect
Effect
Generation I
Night Shade inflicts damage equal to the user's level.
Night Shade inflicts damage equal to the user's level.

Although Night Shade deals Ghost-type damage, its type does not alter the amount of damage it inflicts. Night Shade hits both Normal Pokémon and Psychic Pokémon, both of which have immunities to Ghost-type moves during Generation I.
Generation I
Although Night Shade is a Ghost-type move, its type does not alter the amount of damage it inflicts. Night Shade is not affected by type immunities, so it can hit both Normal and Psychic Pokémon, both of which have immunities to Ghost-type moves in Generation I.

Generation II
Generation II onwards
Night Shade is now now affected by type immunities, meaning that it cannot hit Normal-type Pokémon. Because the type mechanics were altered so that Psychic-type Pokémon are no longer immune to Ghost-type moves, Psychic-type Pokémon are still not immune to Night Shade.
Night Shade is now affected by type immunities; therefore, it cannot usually affect Normal-type Pokémon (but it can affect Psychic-type Pokémon, who are no longer immune to Ghost-type moves).

Night Shade (Japanese: ナイトヘッド Night Head) is a damage-dealing Ghost-type move introduced in Generation I. It is TM042 in Generation IX. Prior to Generation II, it was the signature move of Gastly's evolutionary line.

Effect

Night Shade inflicts damage equal to the user's level.

Generation I

Although Night Shade is a Ghost-type move, its type does not alter the amount of damage it inflicts. Night Shade is not affected by type immunities, so it can hit both Normal-type and Psychic-type Pokémon, both of which have immunities to Ghost-type moves in Generation I.

Generation II onwards

Night Shade is now affected by type immunities; therefore, it cannot usually affect Normal-type Pokémon (but it can affect Psychic-type Pokémon, who are no longer immune to Ghost-type moves).
