| The Shipping section of Bulbapedia underwent a large overhaul as discussed by the Editorial Board, primarily due to the largely speculative nature of the entire section. For future, content regarding Shipping we are encouraging people to head to the Shippers' Paradise subforum to discuss and share with others.

As previously discussed in the staff forum, this article could do with some editing to make it neutral, not balanced. In short - the evidence needs to be restated in a way that is factual, i.e. "Commonly used arguments for PokéShipping include:" - and present the interpretation as interpretation, i.e. "PokéShippers believe this implies", not "this implies". - 振霖T 04:33, 18 January 2006 (CST)

If you ask me, and yes, everyone run away cause Takoto's stepping in, that bit should be removed. These are parings made upi by fans, until Ash and Misty actually outwardly state their love for each other, it's fanon, no matter HOW many hints you find. Same with this whole discussion, until i hear someone say in the anime that "Ash is straight/bi/gay", then people saying he's whatever sexuality is also counted as Fanon. :: I'm sorry, but you are grasping at straws. Pokemon is from JAPAN. The only canon that can be canon is the original, and since the main language of Japan isn't English, we can assume that the dub is not the original, right? There is no such thing as dub canon. Ganging up on me saying "I agree with them, just because it's in English doesn't mean it doesn't count" doesn't make his/her or your point anymore correct. I support Pokeshipping, but I do so with facts that the creators gave, not a company that had no say in the development of the series. The day that dubs become part of an anime's canon is the day fanfics become canon. AjaaniSherisu 06:22, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

:::: By the way, I'm not a sub purist, I just happen to like the Japanese names more. Also you are not ganging up on me because you are correct, you are ganging up on me because you feel that if you do, it makes your statement have more validity. There is no such thing as dub canon, at least not to anyone who actually knows what the word canon means. Only official things can be considered canon, and this proves that the dub is NOT canon, ready for it? They stated in the 5th episode that Takeshi's mother was dead..... wow.. funny how she came back alive and tried to turn the family's gym into a water one in the 1st episode of Pokemon Chronicles. I guess she must of came back from the dead and is now a zombie, eh? They edited this because they didn't want Takeshi to have 2 parents who left the family, so they said she died. They didn't expect her to ever be focused on, so they killed her off. The original version had her not dead, the dub had her dead, which is it? One of them was wrong, and I'm going to put my money on it being the dub.

:English wiki, therefore English canon matters. Not that the original Japanese doesn't matter, because it certainly does (why else would we have called Ambi a girl from the start?), but evidence in the English adaptation that is also supported by Nintendo. That's like saying Dawn's catchphrase was always "No need to worry!". In Japanese, it's always Daijōbu!, but in English it wasn't consistent until sometime in the mid-DP-20's. Ajaani, I would caution you against being a raw purist, since even they make mistakes. Besides, what the hell's the point in removing something in dub canon that's supported in the original anyway? The dubbers certainly didn't add in the lure in DP034... 22:38, 1 February 2008 (UTC)

:: Why is it anyone who doesn't think of the dub as the holy text of all the series is a purist of any sort? The word purist in fandom means a person who prefers 1 certain thing only. I don't hate the dub, I may dislike some of the editing but don't I don't hate it. I have watched more episodes of the dub than anything. Calling me a sub purist or a raw purist is more of a cheapshot on the fact that I don't always go by what the dub says. I don't call Team Rocket as Roketto-Dan, nor do I call Pewter City as Nibi City. I just don't agree that a song that was created by no one other than people who didn't write for the original version for the purpose of milking money out of the franchise is canon. I'd like to know what "mistakes" could the original version have.

:::Personally, I don't see why you have a problem with this. We mention that it's dub evidence and is not part of the original plot. The song is still part of the Pokémon franchise and it still needs to be mentioned. And you say that we can't mention it unless Tajiri validates it? Well should we get rid of Ash's last name because he did not validate him as having a last name? Should we get rid of ALL the dub songs because Tajiri did not validate them?

:::: I never stated Wikipedia was a museum, nor am I comparing Di Vinci to Pokemon. I was using Di Vinci as an example of anything outside of what Satoshi Tajiri creates isn't canon because it's not part of "his" plan, but rather the dubbing company's plan. Even if Di Vinci gave me rights, wouldn't they go into the gallery as my own, not as Di Vinci's?

Why can't we just split the article into dub-added hints and hints present in the original Japanese version? After all, the claim that the hints were dub added is a legitimate criticism that should be addressed. I also think that the intros are badly worded, but that's a different issue. :Personally, I don't believe in Pokeshipping (I guess you can blame Disney making it seem as though the most common way to fall in love is thrould Love at First Sight), but I kinda have to saide with AjanniSherisu. I mean, Misty's Song isn't canon, not even by the dub's standards. I mean, it wasn't even Misty's english VA who sang the song, it was someone not really associated with Nintendo, 4Kids, and especially not Satoshi Tajiri and the Anime writing staff. So, really, Misty's song shouldn't really be included in there. I mean, at least with "Under the Misteltoe", they at least had Rachiel Lillis sing the song, so it can technically stay since it technically was an official product. == Canon or semi-canon? ==
May I say that some people say that pokeshipping is canon, but some people say it's just fandom and they surport it -some don't-, and what I say is that it's semi-canon. What I mean by that is, well some people say contest shipping is close to canon after The Unbeatable Lightness of Seeing, so whouldn't it make sense that if this was semi-canon, firstly; Pikachu shocks back (from brocks little mentions). Secondly; the amount of surporters (in the anime and out). And lastly; Georgio. So should this ship be canon, semi-canon or fanon.Lunick v sonela 12:39, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Latest Edits
I've fixed some little parts that looked very wrong to me. The M6 section wasn't updated with the original dialogue. Some sentences looked simply "hintless" phrases raising the shipping up. I only corrected some little parts, I'm not supposed to argue or something, obviously xD only some things that were very unrealistic for a great shipping's description like the PokéShipping one. I also have a thing to ask you: I don't understand what a sentence means. It's the AG133's part "How can her somewhat wistfully delivered line of how Ash is the same as always be explained?". I also asked to an english friend but he told me it didn't mean anything at all, so I decided to ask you (maybe there's a grammar error, or maybe I simply don't understand because I don't know that english expression) However if there are any problems I'm here to discuss about. Sorry for the multiple edits, I did it to clarify what every edit was about, so it can be seen and eventually changed singly.
p.s. somes episodes need JAP/USA differences to clarify the PokéShippers about what the original elements are. I know this page is a great reference for every PokéShipper that wants to know more about his favourite ship, so maybe it needs some more attentions.
Sorry for eventual wrong english words or expressions. I'm good at english but I'm not english, so I can also do some mistakes. --IvanAipom93 00:01, 3 April 2012 (UTC)
Misty's Goodbye Song
I was watching Gotta Catch Ya Later! when I noticed that Misty has a song for Ash in this episode that isn't listed in the proper area. It should probably be in the song area Right before the song, Misty tells Ash to keep trying his best, then the song starts playing, showing clips on their travels together, hence making it about Ash. Also, in the song, it says "goodbye, funny how that's such a hard thing to say" and "you're more than just my best friend" while showing Ash and Misty together with Brock in the background. Should this be moved? (Charizard101 00:16, 28 April 2012 (UTC))
:Probably it is not listed because it's a dub-only song; the original japanese version features a slow and peaceful music while the images are showing the bond Misty has, most of all, with her Pokémon (only after with her friends, in the same way Ash, Brock, and Tracey), oppositely with the dubbed-modified version. Everything is listed in the episode's page so, since it isn't an original song, probably doesn't need to be added in the Shipping page.
::Ok, thanks (Charizard101 16:48, 29 April 2012 (UTC))

::::If you want to add it in the ship page, remember however of doing it in an appropriate dub-section, because I noticed that, from this point of view, the page is enough confusing itself. Some dub songs are on the top, in the Misty's hints section, some others are in the Other Hints. They should be re-organized in a proper section, separated from other hints, to clarify which are the songs. By the way the goodbye episode's dub song could be referenced with a link to the episode's page. --IvanAipom93 10:17, 30 April 2012 (UTC)

Pokemon the Movie 3
I know I might just be over thinking this, but in the third movie, when Brock, Misty, and Team Rocket save Ash from falling, Brock says "We won't let you fall!" while Misty says "We're like family too!". Could this just be coincidence, or a hint? I was thinking it might be a hint because Misty might have been so concerned about saving Ash that she slipped and hinted about her hopes of pursuing a possible relationship with Ash. (Charizard101 (talk) 03:02, 8 September 2012 (UTC))
:In that context, no, that's not a hint. As the scene includes both Brock and Misty talking to Ash under these circumstances, she's talking about the lot of them (excluding TR) being near familial in their friendship. If it had been just her alone, or maybe if Brock hasn't spoken, and was focused just between her and Ash, then it could have been a hint. == Category sorting ==
In case anyone goes about undoing my edit, the way I did it is best. It saves the need to put the PAGENAME function next to each category and does it for all of them in one line. Also, the Ships with Ash and Misty categories shouldn't be sorted by "Ships with Ash/Misty" as that puts them under "S" in the category page, instead of under "P" where they belong, as it's called "PokéShipping", not "Ships with Ash" or "Ships with Misty", which is what it's sorting them by. ☆<span style="font-family:Algerian"><span style="color:green">The</span> <span style="color:red">Solar</span> <span style="color:blue">Dragon</span></span>☆ 23:29, 22 November 2013 (UTC)
Quick Question:
There's a sentence in Misty's Hint which doesn't make much sense as a hint, and it's the one at the very start on the section, which says:
"Most other Shippers tend to agree that Misty has a crush on Ash. This evidence became most prevalent during the Orange Season, long before it became occasional to set upon Ash a girl who becomes infatuated with him."
While the sentence makes sense for what it's saying, where it's placed is a bit off. I feel not not a hint as such. I feel it would be better either in the Trivia Section, as not's not really a hint, it just fan speculation. == PokéShipping Was Canon At One Point ==
There's a very infamous thread on the Smogon forums (I can't remember the title of it right now...) where there's an early trailer for the first movie. It has nothing to do with the movie and instead shows an adult Misty and Daisy under a tree, playing with ASH AND MISTY'S INFANT DAUGHTER. In the thread, someone cited an interview where someone from the anime confirmed that the first movie was originally going to end with a timeskip showing PokéShipping as 100% canon, with Ash and Misty being married and having a daughter. However, this was before the anime was extended into Orange and Johto (as we all know, the first 80 episodes were supposed to be the ONLY episodes until the franchise blew up into the monster success it is today). While the canonicity of PokéShipping is now up in the air (especially after AmourShipping having their first date next week), I feel like it is extremely noteworthy that PokéShipping was originally the endgame for the anime and while not necessarily canon anymore, was at one point canon. I'd be happy to provide a link if someone thinks this is worthy of being added into the article. --BlackButterfree (talk) 22:37, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
: Unless you can cite the interview from a legitimate source it can, sadly, only be seen as speculation. As for tomorrow's 'date' it's possible that there is actually no date at all, and the title is simply misleading the audience (as it did with Ash Vs N and Serena Vs Shauna - neither of which had battles or much conflict worthy of its title) Azure/ChromeVoid42 (talk) 23:18, 4 February 2015 (UTC)
::Movie trailers very rarely, if ever, have footage that actually makes it into the movie. Also, no. That girl is not their daughter. ::Actually, I was mistaken. The trailer shows Violet with Misty and her daughter, not Daisy. And Violet looks like Miranda from the movie, oddly enough. Also, Ash and Misty's daughter looks like a Nurse Joy. But the actual trailer is still up on YouTube and while it's not 100% obvious that Misty's daughter is Ash's by watching the trailer alone, the presence of Ash's Pikachu cuddling with her does strongly imply it. == About jirachi ==
Ok, im not saying this to promote amourshipping or anything, but could that have just been Ash talking about Serena, because Ash said Long ago. Long ago means like a few years, not like a couple months. I know the XY series was completely unheard of, even the 3DS itself was unheard of, but once i saw Ash talking about someone from the next season. i think it was season 9's movie..? wow, i should watch the old seasons as well as XY. Well I thank you for taking your time to read my complaint, and i will see you in the hate comments! Jaanichu
: Ash didn't remember Serena when he met her so it's highly unlikely he meant her. In addition the writers who had Ash say this wouldn't have known about Serena's existence at all so there is literally zero intent for it to reference her in any way. I'd like to know who you mean by this person in a future season because I can't really think of anyone who was a Side Character in Film and then showed up later in the anime. == The Head Poke ==
In the post-episode segment of SM043 Misty teases Ash by asking him to give her his Z-Ring (grabbing his wrist in the process, though wrist grabbing does not mean hand holding so that's not entirely pertinent), afterwards she lightly pokes his forehead and the group laugh. == SM102 Possible Hints ==
Rather than jump the gun, I wanted to hear opinions on whether these can be counted as hints or just reaches, would be nice to hear feedback on my above topic about 'the head poke', since Misty poked Ash's head again when he fell asleep at the end of this episode.
* Ash calling Misty's name first upon seeing both of them - this one is a bit of a reach but I do faintly remember other shipping pages having such things as an example
* Ash decided to go to Treasure Island to show Misty, even deciding to go via Mantine Surf - an activity he knew Misty would enjoy - rather than canoeing as he did on SM020. It's worth noting that only now did Ash tell his classmates about his fun time there until he mulled over some fun activities to do with Misty there with him
* Near the end of the episode Ash and Misty are seen walking back to Kukui's alone, the implication being that Misty is staying at Kukui's - and thus with Ash - despite the visit being organized by Lana. In addition, as they walk back Ash tells Misty that there are 'many places I'd like to show you', showing that he is keen to impress her and share his enjoyment of Alola with her.
There are also the matters of their Mantine Surf Showboating challenge (their competitiveness showing as well as a slight callback to Alto Mare), their similar expressions when facing Team Rocket and their effectiveness as a team where Ash easily understood what Misty's strategy was when she gave him an opening to attack the mech, but these are quite platonic in my eyes.

Shipping Pages Notice
The Shipping section of Bulbapedia underwent a large overhaul as discussed by the Editorial Board, primarily due to the largely speculative nature of the entire section. For future, content regarding Shipping we are encouraging people to head to the Shippers' Paradise subforum to discuss and share with others.

NPOV

As previously discussed in the staff forum, this article could do with some editing to make it neutral, not balanced. In short - the evidence needs to be restated in a way that is factual, i.e. "Commonly used arguments for PokéShipping include:" - and present the interpretation as interpretation, i.e. "PokéShippers believe this implies", not "this implies". - 振霖T 04:33, 18 January 2006 (CST)

Ash's Sexual Orientation

"and furthermore, that Ash is undeniably heterosexual" What, he can't be bi?

Ja that slightly annoyed me too. - Ferret 12:45, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Opinion and conclusions shouldn't be here... I didn't like working through that section either. Of course, this whole thing is opinion and what we should be doing is documenting the opinion, rather than presenting it.

But wouldn't 'undeniably likes girls' be more accurate?

probably saying that there's "no credible evidence supporting Ash having any sexual orientation other than heterosexual" is best. Evkl 22:19, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)

Is anyone able to go through the japanese episodes and find the original lines for some of these hints? If we're not going to write about dub hints, single them out, and show why they're not taken as evidence by serious veteran Shippers, we shouldn't include them at all.--Archaic 10:34, 17 Mar 2005 (UTC)

"probably saying that there's "no credible evidence supporting Ash having any sexual orientation other than heterosexual" is best. Evkl 22:19, 7 Mar 2005 (UTC)"

Evkl--I wouldn't say that. Remember Sammy? Ritchie? Gary?

Show me the solid evidence that As is anything but heterosexual. evkl 10:32, 15 Jun 2005 (UTC)

There is none, just as there is no solid evidence that he's not bisexual. Ketsuban 23:08, 16 Jun 2005 (UTC)

Other than the fact that he has yet to shown any real sexual attraction to males. Lionheart08 15:39, 23 May 2007 (UTC)

Lack of evidence to one side is not the same as "solid evidence" to the contrary. I could just as easily say "Mew has never been shown, in any canon, to be in a romantic relationship with a female pokemon, so it is male and gay." That is no proof what-so-ever. See the similarities between that argument and yours? Mind you, I'm not saying I feel one or the other about Ash's sexuality, and the article never claims that Ash has to be hetero, just that Pokéshippers think so - just don't use such terrible logic. --AuthorX 17:37, 23 May 2007 (UTC)
I think the simple fact that Ash has shown attraction to females (on more than one occasion) and none whatsoever to males kills the theory of him being Bisexual. Lionheart08 04:14, 30 May 2007 (UTC)

With a kids show, probably best to err on the side of caution. So Ash is straight until proven otherwise... - Cassius335

I have never seen any reason that ash is gay -User:Formerpokéfan

If you ask me, and yes, everyone run away cause Takoto's stepping in, that bit should be removed. These are parings made upi by fans, until Ash and Misty actually outwardly state their love for each other, it's fanon, no matter HOW many hints you find. Same with this whole discussion, until i hear someone say in the anime that "Ash is straight/bi/gay", then people saying he's whatever sexuality is also counted as Fanon. Misty's Song

I'm going to remove Misty's Song from the list for now, as it appears to be exclusive to the English version. If anyone finds an official Japanese song in which Kasumi states this, please add that song instead ^_^. AjaaniSherisu 21:23, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

Do eff off. Just because it's a dub song does NOT mean it doesn't count! - Cassius335 14:05, 26 January 2008 (UTC)
Yeah. Just because it's English-exclusive doesn't mean it's not usable as evidence. English canon is canon. TTEchidnaFire echyGSDS! 05:51, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
I'm sorry, but you are grasping at straws.
I hate sub purists.
Look, the English version of the show is the official English version of the show, not a fansub or a fanfic. There's a mile of difference. There IS such a thing as dub canon and we're ganging up on you because you're wrong. - Cassius335 10:44, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
By the way, I'm not a sub purist, I just happen to like the Japanese names more.
Actually, Lola is Brock's stepmom, not his actual mom. If you would actually watch the dubs, you would have caught that. Sk8torchic 13:20, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Actually, Lola was indeed Brock's actual mom. Dogasu even mentioned it in his comparison. Basically, it was his actual mom in both the original version and the dubbed version of that episode. Weedle Mchairybug 13:43, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
Umm AjaaniSherisu, if you removed it, it would be a violation in the editing thingy. Why? you ask, because it DOES support evidence to PokéShipping.

Protect the page please

We need to protect the page for a bit. A certain someone keeps removing the dubs evidence. --'ケンジ'ガール 09:52, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

No need. If it comes to it, the admins will ban him. - Cassius335 10:46, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Cassius, I'm a girl thank you very much, and no the admins won't ban me, but I'm pretty close to asking them to ban you for your repeated reverting of something that isn't true. I agree with Kenji-girl now that we should keep the dub evidence as another look at it, but your repeated attempts at posting that there is uncertainty about whether or not the song is canon is vandalism. You not once back up your claim and only stoop to saying to "go away", as if you wish for what I'm saying not to be true. I hate to burst your bubble, but it isn't canon. It was written by Ken Cummings and John Loeffler, and was made specifically for the 2BA MASTER Soundtrack. If you want to post it as evidence of Pokeshipping in the dub, do so; but don't lie and say that it is unclear whether it is canon or not, as that is a lie. AjaaniSherisu 11:25, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
The only reason you're saying that at all is because you have his strange fascination with decanonizing the entire English version.
Look, Misty's Song is Misty's Character Song, written as part of the soundtrack to the English version of the show. The only way for it to be truly non-canon is if it was out-of-character for Misty. It isn't: her attraction to Ash is pretty much undeniable at this point. But (as I recall) it was never actually used in the show itself, so it's never been shown in context to the show's plot.
Aaand I lost you after "English version", didn't I? - Cassius335 11:36, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Ok, I take back my "Nah". Please protect the page. We're in ping-pong mode at the moment. - Cassius335 11:41, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

It's not a strange fascination, it's the truth. Canon means official. I'm not sure where you got your evidence that it is not "out-of-character" for Kasumi to say that, when neither of her voice actresses even sang the song, nor has most of the evidence on this page been anything other than a product of the dub's dialog changes. Please learn the defintion of canon before you make comments about whether something is canon or not. Check out the link for canon, ok?
Do you have anything other than sub purism to offer? The Japanese version has it's own seperate soundtrack (though with some shared BGM). And the English version is official, because that's what they're paid to make: the official English-lnguage version. - Cassius335 12:15, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
*laughs* And the article you linked to doesn't exist! - Cassius335 12:17, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Ah. Possibly you meant Canon. Gotta watch those brackets. - Cassius335 12:20, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Sorry about that ^_^;, hehehehe. You have to remember that they don't pay 4Kids to make anything, 4Kids paid them to license it out. That does not mean that the product is canon, just that they have permission to use their product's name and sell it. I'm actually not an sub purist, I just don't like the fact that you are stating that a song that is not in any canon of Pokemon (the original anime, games, manga, or Japanese CDs) is being called unclear of whether or not it is canon.
The fact is the song is not canon, but I don't mind if you use it as evidence as long as you don't state that it is official canon, or that there is uncertainty of whether or not it is, as both are untrue. You don't have to be a sub purist to understand that the Japanese version is the official one. I'm not saying "OMG, the dub is horrible, who watches that rubbish?" I'm just saying the truth that it's not canon, and therefore there is no debate over whether or not it is canon, at least not in people who aren't trying hard to wish the fact isn't true. It in no way makes Pokeshipping not likely, as I'm a Pokeshipper myself and know there is a lot of evidence that actually is from canon that does support Pokeshipping. It's just that the song isn't canonical evidence. AjaaniSherisu 12:53, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Here's the thing: The English Soundtrack is designed to reflect on the English version of the show and "Misty's Song" is intended to reflect on Misty's feelings for Ash. That the Japanese version doesn't include "Misty's song" is beside the point; They've got their own songs to sing. In order to be non-canon, "Misty's Song" would have to contradict the show somehow, but it doesn't.
And disregarding the entire English version as non-offical? That IS being a sub purist. - Cassius335 13:10, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
A sub purist is a person who hates all dubs and only watches subs. It is not sub purist to state that a version that has dialog changes to the point where they actually kill off a character that isn't dead is not operating in the same realm as the original. In the original, Lola is alive, in the dub, Lola is dead. Notice how they didn't state that Lola is Takeshi's mother in the dub version of the Pokemon Chronicles episode? That is because they killed her off in the 5th episode, but instead coming clean, they decided to keep up that lie by not stating exactly who she is, giving the dub viewers the option of thinking she is either a girlfriend or someone other than Takeshi's mother.
I actually have watched a lot more episodes of the dub than I have the sub, and I don't hate the dub, nor do I say "OMG, the sub is soo much better than the dub". I just know for 100% fact that the original version is the original version, therefore whatever it says is correct. If they state that Takeshi's mother isn't dead, do you think I'm going to trust the dub when they say she is? I don't think anyone would. Also in order to be considered non-canon, any portion of what that person creates has to contradict. The fact that the dub itself contradicts the original series automatically rules out anything the dub creates as canon. Like I said before, Lola can't be both dead and alive at the same time, so one of them isn't following the same storyline as the other. Until there is proof that the dub is following what the original has done, it is an original idea and therefore not canon. AjaaniSherisu 13:44, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
Nobody is denying the English version has descrepancies with the original version. But to try to decanonize an entire language version just because of those mistakes is madness. Instead, how about taking each mistake on a case by case basis? Sure, Takeshi's mother aint dead, but that's just one glitch in an otherwise mostly faithful translation. It's not like they've changed a whale into an iceberg or something (compared to some of the stories I've heard about 4Kids One Piece, Pokémon got off quite lightly).
Besides, the English version is made by Pokémon USA, a sub-divison of Nintendo Of America, which is but one part of the great Nintendo whole. From there it gets liscenced to 4Kids or TAJ or whoever. In the end, it's the offical English Version Because Nintendo Say So.
Hence my use of the phrase "dub canon": Authorised, organised and paid for by Nintendo, so it's entirely official and canon and everything (Because Nintendo Say So), but doesn't quite sync up with the original language. - Cassius335 18:30, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
How can you be a sub purist of Pokémon when barely any episodes are subbed in the first place? First, it is silly to assume that Lola isn't Brock's mother in the dub. I don't know why you think they were hiding it but if they were then the bit that gives their past history would have been completely rewritten. Not that that one incident affects this anyway.
So here is my question: Is Two Perfect Girls canon? No one denies Brock's love for Jenny and Joy and it certainly follows the original - Japanese viewers later got Takeshi's Paradise as their equivalent. If you accept that then you have to accept this.
Plus, we can't have a PokéShipping page without mentioning Misty's Song. --FabuVinny T-C-S 15:19, 29 January 2008 (UTC)
How can you be a sub purist of Pokémon when barely any episodes are subbed in the first place?

Touché, but "Original purist" doesn't have quite the same ring to it. :P - Cassius335 18:30, 29 January 2008 (UTC)

Two Perfect Girls is canon in the sense that the official version created a similar song after it. We know 100% for a fact that Takeshi loves both Jenny and Joy. We have never seen an official (via the original series) mention of Kasumi loving Satoshi, or Japanese equivalent of Misty's Song however. When the creators of the series acknowledge that the song is canon, then it can be considered canon. The only one who gives the green light to something being canon is the creator of the the product itself, not whoever the creators allow to use it's name. Also you can't bring up Pokemon USA as the fact is it was founded in 2001 and the song was created in 1999, therefore Pokemon USA had no role in the song.
It feels as if it's only being added because people believe if it isn't included that it makes Pokeshipping as false. This is not true, as Pokeshipping has been supported by the original also. I just feel including a song that tried to milk money out of the franchise is not the best, nor is it the biggest piece of evidence. Kasumi saying it or hinting it in the actual series is more reliable and the biggest evidence that could be found that Pokeshipping is true. The fact that Satoshi, regardless of the dub or the sub keeps the lure Kasumi made is more evidence that Pokeshipping is true than a song that the dub made up. AjaaniSherisu 03:28, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
The creators of the series are Nintendo. So anything they create (or delegate someone to create) is official. The Japanese shouldn't have to put smething in writing that "Misty's Song" is official because it's already an authorised official product as far as Nintendo is concerned, not something "made up".
And you're ignoring a vital point: You say that there is plenty of evidence of Kasumi liking Satoshi. In order to be non-canon, "Misty's Song" would have to disagree with this. But it doesn't. In fact, it agrees wholeheartedly that Misty (Kasumi) likes Ash (Satoshi). There's no descrepancy.
So it's basically canon, just never used in-show. - Cassius335 10:29, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
You are creating a straw-man argument by stating that it's canon because it is authorised. While it is authorised, that does not mean that Nintendo made it canon; they just agreed that it is ok for 4Kids to create the song and sell it. Until Satoshi Tajiri acknowledges the song's existence (I'm highly doubting he has heard it), or there is a song in the original series (like Two Perfect Girls had) that is very similar, then it can't be considered canon.
So... Satoshi Tajiri has to declare a song he likely has never heard canon... or it's not canon? Mr Tajiri is a busy man and he's only one small part of a very large company. What you're asking is logisically hideous, by asking that one man who certainly has lots of other, better things to do to canonise a 10 year old song that isn't even in his native language? Come on.
Would you say that an onigiri is now a donut, because Nintendo allowed the dub to call it that?
I'm not even going to discuss that, because you're using that as anti-dub bait.
There is also a difference between hints and flat out saying something. While there are hints to it in the original, there is no flat out whispering of "I love you" coming from Kasumi in the original like the song was trying to do. It also injects that Kasumi doesn't want to tell Satoshi that she is in love with him because he might break her heart. Now there are hints to Kasumi loving Satoshi, but there are no hints whatsoever that she doesn't say it because she thinks he might break her heart. AjaaniSherisu 21:21, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
You know why "Misty's" song is so unsubtle? Because in the minds of US executives, US children are morons who wouldn't understand subtlety if it bit them on the backside. This isn't just a Pokemon thing, it applies to (very nearly) every American cartoon in existence. Don't blame one song for something it has no control over.
And really, is the idea that Kasumi might not want to admit her feelings to Satoshi because he might not return them really so farfetched? Yeah, Kasumi doesn't come out and tell us this, but that's that subtlety thing again... we're supposed to figure some things out for ourselves.
Ask yourself: If Kasumi hasn't told Satoshi how she feels for that reason then what is the reason she hasn't told him? Has the original provided an alternate reason? - Cassius335 22:09, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Sorry for taking so long to reply. I'm guessing it's pretty much that they aren't mature enough to admit they have feelings for each other. It's clear they both know they like each other. This is the reason why they have blushed when the hint of their feelings is brought to their attention, so why would Kasumi get the impression that Satoshi might not love her back? AjaaniSherisu 07:05, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
English wiki, therefore English canon matters. TTEchidnaFire echyGSDS! 22:38, 1 February 2008 (UTC)
Why is it anyone who doesn't think of the dub as the holy text of all the series is a purist of any sort?
As for Satoshi Tajiri canonising things. Of course he would have to, it's his series. He didn't create it so that other people can edit his work; he created it to be what he wanted it to be. If he says Takeshi's mother isn't dead, it is canon she isn't dead regardless of whether or not the dub says she is. This is exactly what 4Kids did and the had fools made of them when Lola came back. Until Satoshi Tajiri backs up all the things the song created, such as Kasumi being afraid Satoshi wouldn't return her love, the song is not canon.
Now you might take that as more "anti-dub" "raw/sub purist" talk, but it's not. Also stop referring to it as English canon, you are thinking of the word "version". Would it be ok with artists if I said my drawing I drew a few days ago was a work by Di Vinci, based on Kaori Canon? The fact is that Di Vinci doesn't know about my artwork, nor had he any say in my artwork, therefore it is not going to be added into the museum as a work by Di Vinci. This is the same as Satoshi Tajiri having no say nor any knowledge of Misty's Song. The song is not 100% accurate, as we don't know the reason as to why Kasumi and Satoshi don't tell their feelings and neither do the writers of the song. AjaaniSherisu 07:05, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
"Would it be ok with artists if I said my drawing I drew a few days ago was a work by Di Vinci, based on Kaori Canon? The fact is that Di Vinci doesn't know about my artwork, nor had he any say in my artwork, therefore it is not going to be added into the museum as a work by Di Vinci."
Okay, they're are so many things wrong with that statement. 1.)This is a wiki, not an art museum. You can't compare Pokémon to Di Vinci's work. I mean you PAY to see Di Vinci's work in a museum but here it's FREE. 2.)Satoshi Tajiri GAVE RIGHTS to PUSA to edit the series anyway they saw fit. Even if that meant creating a canoncal song of Misty voicing her love for Ash. Di Vinci didn't give you rights to have your work posted next to his as his. First of all you're not an official company. PUSA is therefore what they say matters. Also Tajiri gets a portion of the money that PUSA makes so I'm sure he's not complaining about the song or the dubs edits.
"Calling me a sub purist or a raw purist is more of a cheapshot on the fact that I don't always go by what the dub says. I don't call Team Rocket as Roketto-Dan, nor do I call Pewter City as Nibi City."
You claim that your not a raw-puritist but all I see you ever call Misty and Ash by is Kasumi and Satoshi. Tell me, what name did you know them by first? Most likely as "Ash" and "Misty". Then you watch the Japanese version and now decide to call them Satoshi and Kasumi. And yes, I'm aware that my username is "Kenji-girl" but 99.9% of the time, I still refer to Kenji as Tracey.
Personally, I don't see why you have a problem with this.
Oh and BTW, TTEchidna said that raw-purists sometimes make mistakes, not Satoshi Tajiri. --'ケンジ'ガール 07:51, 12 February 2008 (UTC)
I never stated Wikipedia was a museum, nor am I comparing Di Vinci to Pokemon.
He gave them permission to create the dub, not add to the work he created. Like I said before, 4Kids killed Lola off, does that mean she is canonically dead and alive at the same time because Satoshi Tajiri gave them permission to make the dub? And no, just because I call Ash as Satoshi and Misty as Kasumi doesn't make me a raw or sub purist, I just like the way those name sound. I don't call Team Rocket as Roketto-Dan or Pewter City as Nibi City, so why am I a raw or sub purist just because I prefer the original names of some of the characters? What is wrong with Tracey-Girl? You must of had some reason why you chose to use his original name. It doesn't mean you are a sub or raw purist because of it. We keep the last names and songs because they exist, but having them exist is a lot different than saying they are canon. I'm not saying wipe Misty's Song from the site, just to not state that there is some "so-called" uncertainty on whether or not the song is canon, when if you use the real definition of canon, it isn't. AjaaniSherisu 07:46, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
You're basically reduced to saying the same things now. The Lola thing is a mistake, nothing more. And even in the original, Satoshi Taijiri doesn't create...well most of it. There are writers, artists, colourists, producer, directors, editors, musicians and so on. If you insist on keeping the viewpoint that anything Satoshi didn't personally create isn't canon, you basically decanonise most of the original, never mind the dub. - Cassius335 14:14, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
I found this on Wikipedia (not sure if I can mention the name of the site or not, hehehe) "In order for a setting to appear cohesive, especially in fictions that contain multiple parts, both creators and audiences sometimes find it useful to define what has and has not "actually happened" in that universe." No source outside of a song that 4Kids created themselves without any input from Satoshi Tajiri or his staff has ever backed up the song's message that Kasumi was afraid to tell Satoshi her feelings because he might break her heart. There are many reasons why she might not tell him her feelings. They therefore assumed they knew; even though Satoshi Tajiri has not stated any reason as to why, means they weren't following Pokemon canon, therefore it didn't happen. What happens if Satoshi Tajiri decides they didn't say it because they weren't mature enough to admit it? Does that mean that Satoshi Tajiri is wrong?
If by whatever miracle it would take for Kasumi to return to the series there is actually a Japanese song (or better yet, episode) which explores Kasumi's feeling's for Satoshi, then that would have priority over the dub, sure. But no such thing exists.
And if such a song did exist and it agreed with "Misty's Song" exactly (not word for word due to translation difficulty), but both basically saying the same things, would that be good enough? Even if Mr Tajiri was off with bird flu that week? - Cassius335 21:53, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
Yes, it would be considered canon if that song were to come out, as it would basically be saying that Misty's Song follows the series that it is dubbing and not just making things up. But since no song like that exists, as of now parts of it are purely made up and therefore cannot be taken as canon. Also, they would might wait until he was better before making such decisions, or since he probably has people who work for him, they could give the green light if he choses to say he approves of the new song and wants that direction for his characters. AjaaniSherisu 03:01, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

Yep, and they in turn have people who work for them (and probably other people they report to) and so on. Big, big organisation. Now, as I've said, Mr Taijiri is a busy man and probably can't do more than glance at the original anime occasionally. So chances are he doesn't have time or opportunity to look at anything related to the English dub. That's the domain of people at Nintendo of America. And i's most likely one of them who authorised "Misty's Song". They aren't Mr Taijri but in a very roundabout very-long-chain of-people sort of way they do work for him (or at least, the same company). They aren't just "making stuff up".

Now, if "Kasumi's Song" did exist and went in a completely different direction to "Misty's Song", with a different take on Kasumi's feelings for Satoshi then "Misty's Song" would be non-canon. And we know this because people like Dogasu would have torn "Misty's Song" to shreds already. There'd be a page on this site detailing the differences.

But "Kasumi's Song" doesn't exist and "Misty's Song" has nothing to disagree with. If "Misty's Song" is non-canon, what is the canon? We don't know. As such, I'm sticking with "uncertain" - Cassius335 11:45, 28 February 2008 (UTC)

The article was stating that there is uncertainty of whether or not the original will support the song or that there is a debate on whether or not the song is canon even without the original backing it up? If it's saying that there is a chance in the future that the song will be considered canon so they don't want to state it never will be, then I guess that is ok ^_^. I just felt that it was trying to say there is confusion on whether or not the song is canon as of now. It clearly is not canon as of yet though. I hope maybe we could try to word it to that way ^_^. I actually really hope they do make a "Kasumi's Song" as then PokeShipping will be official ^_^. AjaaniSherisu 09:55, 1 March 2008 (UTC)

I know Satoshi Tajiri didn't create everything in the series. I should of used the word supervised instead. He gave basic guidelines for what was to be in his show and the artists, writers and so forth followed those guidelines and Satoshi Tajiri in the end has the say as to what was good enough. You don't think a series such as Pokemon had no input whatsoever from the creator of the franchise, did you? AjaaniSherisu 20:59, 26 February 2008 (UTC)
He might have some input, sure. But I imagine he's a busy enough man designing the next 100 Pokemon or whatever that most of the time the anime runs without him. - Cassius335 21:53, 26 February 2008 (UTC)

Why can't we just split the article into dub-added hints and hints present in the original Japanese version? After all, the claim that the hints were dub added is a legitimate criticism that should be addressed. I also think that the intros are badly worded, but that's a different issue. PsychoRobo 21:28, 27 July 2008 (UTC)

Personally, I don't believe in Pokeshipping (I guess you can blame Disney making it seem as though the most common way to fall in love is thrould Love at First Sight), but I kinda have to saide with AjanniSherisu. If it exists, it's not under "Ships involving Red" - Cassius335 11:10, 17 February 2008 (UTC)
There's no link on the shipping redirects page, and the special shipping category links back to this article...where there is no mention of the manga at all. I'm willing to start/work on the article if no one else is available. I suppose the question then is whether or not it should be a separate page. Given that, say, MangaAdvanceShipping has its own page, and as mentioned, Ash and Red aren't the same character, I'd say MangaPokéshipping deserves one as well. Thoughts? ~Snap

This may seem stupid...

But should we mention the Robot Chicken sketch? I don't think as a hint but maybe something as trivia. In the sketch, Ash expects Misty to make his dinner. Funny cause that's usually Brock's job. --ケンジガール 23:25, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

that really doesnt seem like a shipping hint. its more like, "Im hungry! cook me something!" A guy wanting his friend to make him dinner doesnt necessaritly mean hes attracted to her, it probably means hes just to lazy to make it himself. I doubt Robot Chicken really payed attention to who was usually Ash's personal chef anyway, but I could be wrong (not suprising)Mooites 23:34, 5 September 2008 (UTC)

it doesnt seem so trivia worthy. May made Ash pay for lunch in AG002. is that AdvanceShipping trivia? Mooites 00:15, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
I know but this is a sketch from a parody show. We mention that Squirtle was in a Robot Chicken sketch so why can't we mention that PokeShipping was badly slightly mentioned in a comedy sketch. --ケンジガール 00:19, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
Because PokéShipping wasn't mentioned, Ash's supreme desire for food was. Mooites 00:22, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
 1. Sorry about that. I couldn't help myself.
 2. I still don't think so. Like I said, it was a demonstration of male chauvinism. Ash was treating Misty the way he would a waitress or a maid, and not one he's necessarily attracted to. --Martonimos((Argh|Blargh)) 00:23, 6 September 2008 (UTC)

umm, yeah, I'm not saying the dub is inferior to the original, but technically it's not canon, since it has to be authorized by the original writers to be even CONSIDERED canon, if not created by the original writers. I mean, the canon article even says it has to be created by the original writers in order for it to even BE considered canon. Weedle Mchairybug 16:16, 6 September 2008 (UTC)
What if its confirmed in the Original (not the dub), like a shipping of Marnia and Jimmy (although this was half confirmed in the dub; as Jimmy blushes when she talks to him; etc., I think you get my point)? §hin¥£ik@chµ 00:45, 10 September 2008 (UTC) Ps please join The User Post Gazette.
If, and ONLY IF, it was confirmed in the Original version, then yes, it would be canon.
They don't outright state that. They just said they hint at romantic feelings more outside the main series. Which is true - the CDs and Pokémon Live very strongly support PokéShipping but they are not considered evidence in debates because they have nothing to do with the Japanese writers. Unlike the dub, which is usually accurate in reflecting the Japanese version and takes out as much as it puts back in. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:24, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Gotta Catch Ya Later

I watched the part on youtube where they have to split up, and Ash and Misty look like they're about to kiss, then Brock interupts them ("HOLD EVERYTHING!!!!"), and afterwards, ash groans. I don't know if you guys take that as Ash groaning because Brock had to leave, but somebody-me, for example- is going to take that as him groaning because Brock interupted the moment. ---Sk8torchic

They weren't going to kiss. Brock did interrupt their close moment but let's not exaggerate here. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:19, 19 October 2008 (UTC)

Most popular ship?

The article, in the beggining, states, "it is also the most popular form of Shipping in Pokémon." I have to ask, is there a source for this? Yeah, I know, POV, but still. The Dark Fiddler - Smarter than the average bear! 00:30, 13 October 2008 (UTC)

I agree, and Im gonna delete that because that is a little biased. Plus, I wouldnt say Pokeshipping's that popular anymore. But hey, there are still some diehard fans. So, is it ok to get rid of that statement? --Mooites Talk to me, baby! 00:59, 13 October 2008 (UTC)
I don't think there are any doubts that it was the most popular ship in the original series days. However, to say that is the case now is most likely false. The popularity has diminished in the years since Misty left the main cast and there is a lot more extra competition now. --FabuVinny |Talk Page| 19:18, 19 October 2008 (UTC)
It's still really popular, but now, it's competing with AdvanceShipping, PearlShipping, and OrangeShipping. It was previously competing with PalletShipping. --Alpha TotodileListen closely... 12:22, 28 April 2009 (UTC)

Canon or semi-canon?

It's considered by the majority to be "one-sided canon," on Misty's side. That's as far as it goes. And please use ~~~~ to create your signature after every comment, please. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 16:29, 2 August 2009 (UTC)

Notable PokèShippers

I'm a little confused as to why the Notable PokèShippers have been taken off the PokèShipping page. I mean, on other shipping pages, the Notable shippers are there. OminousMystery 18:23, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

The notable 'shippers section is currently hidden in the Trivia section, not removed. That section has to follow this standard, or else they really aren't notable to begin with. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 18:36, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

I see. But aren't Team Rocket notable PokèShippers as well? OminousMystery 19:51, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Provide proof of that? Because again, noting a pairing isn't supporting it. If TR support it, there needs to be something that proves it. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 20:33, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Wrong Episode

For one of Misty's hints, it says that in the episode "Lights, Camera, Quack-tion!" when Jigglypuff sings its song, Misty is seen sleeping on Ash's back. This is the wrong episode. The correct episode would be "The Ancient Puzzle of Pokémopolis". OminousMystery 18:23, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Double checked and the hint is for the correct episode. Misty did not sleep across Ash in Ancient Puzzle, but merely leaned against him and barely for a few seconds as they slide onto the ground. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 18:47, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Oops. My bad. OminousMystery 19:48, 28 December 2011 (UTC)

Probably it is not listed because it's a dub-only song; the original japanese version features a slow and peaceful music while the images are showing the bond Misty has, most of all, with her Pokémon (only after with her friends, in the same way Ash, Brock, and Tracey), oppositely with the dubbed-modified version. Everything is listed in the episode's page so, since it isn't an original song, probably doesn't need to be added in the Shipping page.
Ok, thanks (Charizard101 16:48, 29 April 2012 (UTC))
Actually it is mentioned under Gotta Catch ya Later. And dub songs obviously count because there is a section for them which most of them are under. --ケンジガール 19:02, 29 April 2012 (UTC)
If you want to add it in the ship page, remember however of doing it in an appropriate dub-section, because I noticed that, from this point of view, the page is enough confusing itself.
Ok, I might just do that. Also, I like your idea about having a separate section for dub-only things. The "Songs" area is quite confusing when it comes to telling the difference between actual and dub-only. (Charizard101 21:25, 1 May 2012 (UTC))

How..?

"however, the writers in Japan have stated there is a mild crush going on but they are too young to realize their feelings." Can somebody tell me where they got this from, since I just read a blog from the ex-creator (or writer) of Pokémon and he said that that there was nothing happening between Ash and Misty. Somebody please help? :) Metallicax3 10:35, 15 May 2012 (UTC)

In that context, no, that's not a hint. Luna Tiger * the Arc Toraph 13:37, 8 September 2012 (UTC)

Ok, thanks. (Charizard101 (talk) 14:04, 8 September 2012 (UTC))

Category sorting

In case anyone goes about undoing my edit, the way I did it is best. It saves the need to put the PAGENAME function next to each category and does it for all of them in one line. Also, the Ships with Ash and Misty categories shouldn't be sorted by "Ships with Ash/Misty" as that puts them under "S" in the category page, instead of under "P" where they belong, as it's called "PokéShipping", not "Ships with Ash" or "Ships with Misty", which is what it's sorting them by. ☆The Solar Dragon☆ 23:29, 22 November 2013 (UTC)

Just wanna know how everyone else feels, thanks Waterninja12345 (talk) 18:35, 21 January 2015 (UTC)

PokéShipping Was Canon At One Point

Unless you can cite the interview from a legitimate source it can, sadly, only be seen as speculation.
Movie trailers very rarely, if ever, have footage that actually makes it into the movie. Also, no. That girl is not their daughter. Dogasu has cleared this up. Ataro (talk) 01:31, 5 February 2015 (UTC)
Actually, I was mistaken. Here's the link, which itself has a link to the movie's trailer on YouTube, and to some interview with Nintendo about it: http://www.smogon.com/forums/threads/the-original-pokémon-ending-little-known-facts-from-red-and-green-jynx-and-more.77456/ --BlackButterfree (talk) 01:37, 5 February 2015 (UTC)

About jirachi

Ok, im not saying this to promote amourshipping or anything, but could that have just been Ash talking about Serena, because Ash said Long ago. Long ago means like a few years, not like a couple months. I know the XY series was completely unheard of, even the 3DS itself was unheard of, but once i saw Ash talking about someone from the next season. i think it was season 9's movie..? wow, i should watch the old seasons as well as XY. Well I thank you for taking your time to read my complaint, and i will see you in the hate comments! - unsigned comment from Jaanichu (talkcontribs)

Ash didn't remember Serena when he met her so it's highly unlikely he meant her. In addition the writers who had Ash say this wouldn't have known about Serena's existence at all so there is literally zero intent for it to reference her in any way. I'd like to know who you mean by this person in a future season because I can't really think of anyone who was a Side Character in Film and then showed up later in the anime. But ultimately, Nice Try but No Azure/ChromeVoid42 (talk) 13:13, 4 November 2015 (UTC)

The Head Poke

In the post-episode segment of SM043 Misty teases Ash by asking him to give her his Z-Ring (grabbing his wrist in the process, though wrist grabbing does not mean hand holding so that's not entirely pertinent), afterwards she lightly pokes his forehead and the group laugh. Is the poke in some way a ship hint? I don't know it's significance outside of Naruto if there is one so I decided to ask Azure/ChromeVoid42 (talk) 18:23, 23 September 2017 (UTC)

SM102 Possible Hints

Rather than jump the gun, I wanted to hear opinions on whether these can be counted as hints or just reaches, would be nice to hear feedback on my above topic about 'the head poke', since Misty poked Ash's head again when he fell asleep at the end of this episode.

 • Ash calling Misty's name first upon seeing both of them - this one is a bit of a reach but I do faintly remember other shipping pages having such things as an example
 • Ash decided to go to Treasure Island to show Misty, even deciding to go via Mantine Surf - an activity he knew Misty would enjoy - rather than canoeing as he did on SM020. It's worth noting that only now did Ash tell his classmates about his fun time there until he mulled over some fun activities to do with Misty there with him
 • Near the end of the episode Ash and Misty are seen walking back to Kukui's alone, the implication being that Misty is staying at Kukui's - and thus with Ash - despite the visit being organized by Lana.

Let me know what you guys think, simple Hint or Miss Azure/ChromeVoid42 (talk) 11:18, 29 December 2018 (UTC)
