Xatu is a green, {{wp|condor}}-like {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} with long, red-and-black tipped white wings that cover most of its front. Underneath its wings are designs that resemble red eyes. Along with its main green coloration, Xatu's design has accents of black, yellow, and red. There is an extra set of yellow stripes on a male Xatu. It has almond eyes, a long, slightly hooked beak, and two long, red feather crests. Xatu's feet have only two toes, one in front and one in back. Xatu's design is similar to a {{wp|totem pole}} or a {{wp|kachina doll}}. | Xatu is a green, {{wp|condor}}-like {{OBP|Pokémon|species}} with long, red-and-black tipped white wings that cover most of its front. Xatu tends to stand still all day. One theory explains that Xatu can see into the future with its right eye and the past with its left, and it does not move due to fears of its visions of the future coming true. [[EP234| | Xatu tends to stand still all day, constantly observing the sun's movement. One theory explains that Xatu can see into the future with its right eye and the past with its left, and it does not move due to fears of its visions of the future coming true. The ''[[Pokémon the Series]]'' episode ''[[EP234|Xatu the Future]]'' has shown that it can communicate by moving its wings in a {{wp|flag semaphore|semaphore}} fashion. Xatu is believed to live in {{DL|List of Pokémon by habitat|Forest Pokémon|the forests}} of {{wp|South America}}. | ||

Xatu (Japanese: ネイティオ Natio) is a dual-type Psychic/Flying Pokémon introduced in Generation II.
It evolves from Natu starting at level 25.
Biology
Xatu is a green, condor-like Pokémon with long, red-and-black tipped white wings that cover most of its front. Xatu's design is similar to a totem pole or a kachina doll.
Xatu tends to stand still all day, constantly observing the sun's movement. One theory explains that Xatu can see into the future with its right eye and the past with its left, and it does not move due to fears of its visions of the future coming true. The Pokémon the Series episode Xatu the Future has shown that it can communicate by moving its wings in a semaphore fashion. Xatu is believed to live in the forests of South America.
Evolution
Xatu evolves from Natu.
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)
Game data
NPC appearances
- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Xatu lives on the Hill of the Ancients, located beyond the Great Canyon. Xatu is well regarded as a wise Pokémon with the ability to see into the future. The player first consults Xatu in an attempt to learn why they were turned into a Pokémon. Later on, he creates the Teleport Gem to teleport the player to the Sky Tower. After getting the Clear Wing from Spinda, Xatu reveals that the player must first go to the three fields and face the lord of the areas (the Legendary beasts). Xatu occasionally visits Pokémon Square for shopping and gave Meteor Cave its name on one of these trips. Similarly in Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon, Xatu looks at the sunset at Sand Dune of Spirits and plays a part in the post-game.
- Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Sky: Xatu runs a shop in Treasure Town called Xatu's Appraisal. He unlocks any Treasure Boxes found in dungeons for 150 Poké per box.
- Pokémon Super Mystery Dungeon: The same Xatu from Red and Blue Rescue Team plays a part in the post-story in bringing back the Partner.

Trivia
- Xatu shares its category with Flygon. They are both known as the Mystic Pokémon in English and the Spirit Pokémon in Japanese.
- Xatu's Silver, FireRed, and SoulSilver Pokédex entries state that it is involved in South American myths, which is a connection between the Pokémon world and the real world.
- Xatu is one of the few Pokémon whose official art depicts its female form.
- Before gender differences were introduced, all Xatu had the appearance of a female regardless of gender.
- In the Pokémon Gold and Silver Spaceworld '97 demo, Xatu and Natu were coloured brown. Additionally, instead of stripes, the wings had circular patterns, it evolved via evolution stone, and its types were reversed.
- Jeff Kalles, who assisted in the naming of many Generation II Pokémon, suggested the English name for Xatu. The name arose from Nintendo and The Pokémon Company's desire to have a Pokémon for every letter of the alphabet.[1][2][3]
Origin
Xatu seems to be based on a resplendent quetzal with design elements from a Native American totem or kachina. Behaviorally, it displays the ancient art of Sun Gazing, a form of spiritual meditation practiced by the Aztec and Mayan peoples in the belief that it would give them supernatural power (hence Xatu being Psychic-type).
Xatu distinctly resembles the birdlike enemy in Stage 2 of Pulseman, as they both share a nearly identical color scheme and similar shape.
Name origin
According to Jeff Kalles, Xatu is derived from xat, a sort of Native American carved pole.[4]
Natio may be a combination of native and indio (Spanish and Italian for Native American).
