The Cherish Ball (Japanese: プレシャスボール Precious Ball) is a type of Poké Ball introduced in Generation IV. Event Pokémon are often contained in a Cherish Ball.

In the core series games

From Generation IV onward, event Pokémon are usually distributed inside a Cherish Ball, unless they are distributed as Eggs. This is the only way to obtain a Pokémon in a Cherish Ball.

Effect

Manual activation

The Cherish Ball cannot be legitimately obtained as an item, so it cannot normally be used. If it were to be obtained, when used from the Bag in a wild encounter, it would attempt to catch the wild Pokémon with a catch rate modifier of 1×.

As a Pokémon's Poké Ball

From Generation VI onward, bred Pokémon inherit their Poké Ball from their parents. However, the Cherish Ball, Master Ball, and Strange Ball cannot be passed down via breeding; instead, they act as a regular Poké Ball for inheritance purposes.

Main article: Cherish Ball (Unified Minds 191)

The Cherish Ball, first found in the Japanese Espeon & Deoxys-GX Tag Team GX Starter Set, allows the player to search their deck for a Pokémon-GX, reveal it, and add it to their hand. The player then shuffles their deck. A Secret Full Art card later appeared in the Japanese Miracle Twin expansion; both prints appeared in the English Unified Minds expansion, with artwork by 5ban Graphics. An alternate artwork print, illustrated by Ryo Ueda, appeared in the Japanese Alter Genesis expansion and as one of the Yellow A Alternate cards in English.
