Armarouge is a bipedal, humanoid Pokémon. Its body is primarily black, with red colorations on its cylindrical legs and hands, the latter resembling oven mitts. Its head is also red, with yellow sharp "ears" protruding from either side. The top of its head is yellow and has a fire burning on top, resembling the plume on a knight's helmet. Its face is covered with a black mask with three holes at the center, and its eyes have red irises and wisps emanating from its yellow pupils. Armarouge's torso and shoulders are covered in a yellow suit of armor and levitating large yellow {{wp|pauldron}}s, respectively. The suit of armor has red accents on it.

Armarouge's armor is said to have belonged to a distinguished warrior, and is the source of its psychic power. The armor allows Armarouge to control its inner fire energy and use attacks. Armarouge is loyal and believes in fighting fair, willing to fight head-on no matter how strong the foe is. It first focuses on using its sturdy armor for defense before using high firepower in order to take down opponents. When attacking, Armarouge moves its pauldrons to its hands and puts them together to form a cannon, which it uses to shoot projectiles.<ref name=SVsite>[https://scarletviolet.pokemon.com/en-us/pokemon/armarouge/ Armarouge — Pokémon Scarlet and Pokémon Violet Official Website]</ref>

===Origin===
===Origin===
Armarouge may be based on a possessed suit armor. Its whole idea and design suggest it could also be based as well on all the medieval heroic tales of European knights, but more specifically on the legend of the Spanish knight {{wp|Wilfred the Hairy}}, of French direct ancestry, which would explain the use of French vocabulary on its name, he was known for his golden armor and shield, on which was said the emperor {{wp|Charles the Bald}} painted with his fingers four red lines using the blood of the former, in honor of his bravery, as the ones Armarouge presents on its armor and extremities. It could also take inspiration from the use of long-range artillery weapons such as cannons, as well as the idea of {{wp|chivalry}}. Its ability to put its pauldrons together on its arms to form a cannon may take from depictions of arm cannons in fictional media. It may also take some inspiration from {{wp|jinn}}, humanoid fire spirits of Arabic mythology sometimes depicted in popular media launching fireballs at other beings.
Armarouge may be based on a possessed suit of armor. Its design could also be based on medieval heroic tales of European knights, as well as the idea of {{wp|chivalry}}. One specific point of origin may be the legend of the Spanish knight {{wp|Wilfred the Hairy}}, of French direct ancestry, known for his golden armor and shield, on which was said the emperor {{wp|Charles the Bald}} painted with his fingers four red lines using the blood of the former, in honor of his bravery. This might explain the red colorations on Armarouge's armor and extremities, as well as the use of French vocabulary in its name.

Armarouge's ability to put its pauldrons together on its arms to form a cannon is reminiscent of depictions of arm cannons in fictional media. The shape the pauldrons take when in this form also resembles a {{wp|gas cylinder}}, a metal vessel that contains pressurized gasses for uses such as combustion. It may also take some inspiration from {{wp|jinn}}, humanoid fire spirits of Arabic mythology sometimes depicted in popular media launching fireballs at other beings.

The [[Auspicious Armor]] required to evolve {{p|Charcadet}} into Armarouge may be inspired by ceremonial cannons cast from captured weapons and scrap metals, or cannons kept as {{wp|war trophies}} in early-modern warfare.

Armarouge (Japanese: グレンアルマ Gurenarma) is a dual-type Fire/Psychic Pokémon introduced in Generation IX.

It evolves from Charcadet when exposed to a set of Auspicious Armor. It is one of Charcadet's final forms, the other being Ceruledge.

Biology

Error creating thumbnail: File missing
Armarouge using its pauldrons as a cannon

Armarouge is a bipedal, humanoid Pokémon. Its body is primarily black, with red colorations on its cylindrical legs and hands, the latter resembling oven mitts. Its head is also red, with yellow sharp "ears" protruding from either side. The top of its head is yellow and has a fire burning on top, resembling the plume on a knight's helmet. Its face is covered with a black mask with three holes at the center, and its eyes have red irises and wisps emanating from its yellow pupils. Armarouge's torso and shoulders are covered in an old set of yellow and red armor, along with levitating large yellow pauldrons over its shoulders.

When attacking, Armarouge moves its pauldrons to its hands and puts them together to form a cannon, which it uses to shoot blazing projectiles.[1]

Armarouge is the only known Pokémon capable of learning the move Armor Cannon.

Evolution

Armarouge evolves from Charcadet and is one of its final forms, the other being Ceruledge.

Trivia

  • Armarouge and its evolutionary relatives were designed by Tomohiro Kitakaze.[2]
  • Armarouge's name was misspelled as "Armorouge" on the official Pokémon Scarlet and Violet website; specifically, in the section describing the move Armor Cannon.[3] This error has been corrected as of September 13, 2022.[1]
  • Armarouge has the same base stat values as its counterpart Ceruledge, just assigned to different stats.

Origin

Armarouge may be based on a possessed suit of armor. Its design could also be based on medieval heroic tales of European knights, as well as the idea of chivalry. One specific point of origin may be the legend of the Spanish knight Wilfred the Hairy, of French direct ancestry, known for his golden armor and shield, on which was said the emperor Charles the Bald painted with his fingers four red lines using the blood of the former, in honor of his bravery. This might explain the red colorations on Armarouge's armor and extremities, as well as the use of French vocabulary in its name.

Armarouge's ability to put its pauldrons together on its arms to form a cannon is reminiscent of depictions of arm cannons in fictional media. The shape the pauldrons take when in this form also resembles a gas cylinder, a metal vessel that contains pressurized gasses for uses such as combustion. It may also take some inspiration from jinn, humanoid fire spirits of Arabic mythology sometimes depicted in popular media launching fireballs at other beings.

The Auspicious Armor required to evolve Charcadet into Armarouge may be inspired by ceremonial cannons cast from captured weapons and scrap metals, or cannons kept as war trophies in early-modern warfare.

Name origin

Armarouge may be a combination of arma (Italian, Spanish and Portuguese for weapon), armadura (Spanish and Portuguese for armor) or armatura (Italian for armor), and rouge (French for red).

Gurenarma may be a combination of 紅蓮 guren (crimson) and arma, armadura or armatura.
