Ryme (Japanese: ライム Lime) is a Gym Leader of Montenevera's Gym, known officially as the Montenevera Gym. She specializes in Ghost-type Pokémon.

In the core series games

Ryme is the younger sister of Tyme, the math instructor of Naranja Academy^S/Uva Academy^V, who was previously the Montenevera Gym Leader. Ryme is also a renowned hip-hop artist who often partakes in rap battles. She puts great emotions and passions into both her rapping and her Pokémon battles. She has been a legendary rapper for four decades. As a teen, she wrote a song to express her grief over the death of her Puppy Pokémon. Her singing revived it as a ghost Pokémon. She is still said to "bring the dead to their feet" as the "MC of RIP" thanks to the themes of death in her rap music. It is for these reasons that she decided to become a Ghost-type Pokémon Trainer.

In addition to her Gym Badge, Ryme gives out TM114 (Shadow Ball) after defeating her.

In The Indigo Disk, Ryme can be invited to Blueberry Academy as a special coach.

Pokémon

Ryme is always faced in a Double Battle. She will Terastallize her Toxtricity at the first opportunity.

Gym battle

Certain actions during the Gym battle will cause the spectators to cheer for either Trainer. This causes the Pokémon from the supported side to receive stat boosts in one or more of their stats.

Pokémon Horizons: The Series

Ryme first appeared in silhouette alongside the other Gym Leaders of Paldea in Welcome to Naranja Academy! during Clavell's explanation of how Tera Training works.

Ryme appeared in Wattrel's High Wind Warning!, where she was wandering around the woods looking for an Annihilape when she was led up to Roy by the sound of his singing. Both Trainers expressed their common interest in singing, and Ryme even rapped to encourage Roy's Wattrel to overcome its fears and insecurities to move forward. She also displayed an interest in Roy's Fuecoco before leaving with her Houndstone.

In HZ061, Roy challenged Ryme for his Tera Training Implementation test. After a short rap battle, Ryme praised Roy's rapping skills before facing him in Pokémon battle. Ryme's Houndstone quickly defeated Roy's Kilowattrel before being taken out by Fuecoco. When Ryme switched in her Toxtricity, it used its moves and Punk Rock Ability to negate all of Fuecoco's attacks. Backed into a corner, Roy Terastallized Fuecoco, but they were unable to launch a single attack before Toxtricity defeated them. Ryme scolded Roy for failing to utilize Fuecoco's strengths properly, failed him, and told Roy to challenge her again at a later time.

In HZ062, after training with Nemona, Roy challenged Ryme to a rematch. With a new song they created together, Roy and Fuecoco fared much better against Toxtricity, even forcing Ryme to Terastallize it. Eventually, Toxtricity was taken out by Fuecoco's Tera-boosted Flamethrower, giving Roy the victory and a passing grade. Ryme congratulated Roy on his victory, but noted how it's up to him whether or not Fuecoco reaches its full potential.

In HZ066, Ryme was seen at Naranja Academy talking to Geeta and Larry during the Course Students Battle Tournament. In the following episode, Ryme did a rap performance to celebrate Roy, Liko, and Dot's heroics in stopping a group of villains from attacking the academy. During Roy and Liko's battle, Ryme joined in on Roy and Fuecoco's singing, hyping up the crowd, which led to Fuecoco evolving into a Crocalor. Once the tournament had ended, Ryme congratulated Roy and Crocalor for winning their battle and expressed pride in their progress.

Ryme and Roy

Character

Ryme has an bold and upbeat personality with a passion for rapping and making music, befitting her job as a professional rapper and musician. As a Ghost-type Gym leader, Ryme is known to make remarks about one's soul and spirit in both battle and music. She is encouraging and compassionate as a person, showcased by her encouraging Roy's Wattrel to overcome its fears. Despite this, she does have a tough and strict way of showing encouragement at times, such as telling Roy he failed his test and to go and wash his soul before returning, showcasing how she wants him to improve and understand what errors he made in his ideals before having their rematch.

Ryme's strength as a Gym leader is shown during her first battle against Roy, countering Fuecoco's moves with Toxtricity's ability and superior battling skills. After Roy defeated her in her rematch she was glad to see his improvement in both ideals and battle tactics and complimented him afterwards.

Houndstone is Ryme's first known Pokémon. It happily greeted Roy upon meeting him and later joined Ryme's rap number. In HZ061, it was used as Ryme's first Pokemon against Roy in his Tera Training test, where it defeated Roy's Kilowattrel before losing to Fuecoco.

Houndstone's known moves are Phantom Force, Crunch, and Scary Face.

Toxtricity

Low Key Form Toxtricity is Ryme's second known Pokémon. It was used against Roy's Fuecoco during his Tera Training test, where it defeated Fuecoco easily, despite the latter Terastalizing.

In HZ062, Toxtricity was used against Fuecoco in a one-on-one rematch. This time, Fuecoco was able to deal significant damage to it thanks to his newfound singing and battle tactics, forcing Toxtricity to Terastallize. Fuecoco Terastalized soon after and managed to defeat Toxtricity, winning Roy the rematch and passing his test.

Toxtricity's known moves are Overdrive, Boomburst, Hex, and Venoshock, and its Ability is Punk Rock.

Similar to other Paldea Gym Leaders who have a second activity, Ryme is a singer. After the airing of HZ061, the official Japanese Pokémon YouTube channel released the music video for one of her songs.

Ryme appeared in Breathe Together, rapping about Naranja Academy during Ohara, Aliquis, and Hohma's video project. Later, she is introduced by Iono as one of Paldea's Gym Leaders during her video collaboration with the academy.

Ryme was introduced as a Supporter card in the Pokémon Trading Card Game during the English Scarlet & Violet Series (the Japanese Scarlet & Violet Era). It was first released in the Japanese Ruler of the Black Flame expansion and the English Obsidian Flames expansion, with artwork by nagimiso. An ultra rare version with artwork by the same illustrator was released in the same sets. It allows players to draw 3 cards, and then switch out their opponent's Active Pokémon to the Bench (the new Active Pokémon is chosen by the opponent).

• Ryme's Japanese Gym Leader title is ソウルフルビート.
• Befitting her status as a Ghost-type specialist, Ryme's front-falling dreadlocks resemble a skeleton's arm and her central back one ends in a shape resembling a simplified representation of a pelvis.
• Ryme's ace and Terastallized Pokémon being Toxtricity alludes to their shared trait of music.
• According to a book in the Naranja Academy^S/Uva Academy^V, Ryme had either a Growlithe, a Rockruff, or a Fidough before it passed away and was revived as a ghost. It is unknown if this ghost dog is still with her, or if it is distinct from her other two ghost dogs.
