Walk downstairs to be greeted by Mom's Skwovet; follow it into the kitchen to find Mom. She is excited for your first day at your new school, but advises against hurrying off too soon. The school is waiting on something important to arrive for you, and asks that you wait a little while longer before attending.
Just then, the doorbell rings. Approach the door to find that the visitor has already let himself inside. The man apologizes for the late arrival of your enrollment documents, and introduces himself as Clavell, the director of Naranja Academy/Uva Academy. He delivers the documents to Mom, who offers him a cup of tea. In the meantime, she sends you back upstairs to collect your bag and hat.

Return to the first floor, and both Mom and Clavell compliment your new academy uniform. Clavell then remembers that he has something else for you, but that your living room is hardly the place for it and asks that you follow him outside.
====Clavell's Offer====
When you and Mom join him, Clavell sends out three Pokémon from their Poké Balls. He explains that the academy provides each new student with a Pokémon of their own, and asks that you choose one of the three to become your first partner Pokémon. He'd like to stay to see which one you will choose, but must be off to his next home visit at the house down the hill, and asks that you find him once you have made your decision.
{| style="margin:auto; | ====Mom's Gift====
|- | Once Clavell leaves, Mom suggests taking the three Pokémon on a walk to get to know them. But first, she has a gift for your big day: a new Rotom Phone! A Pokémon called Rotom lives within this latest model of smartphone and can be used to run several handy apps. There are two apps unlocked immediately, with space for a third. Additionally, if the Trainer falls from a great height, Rotom will even slow their fall before hitting the ground! | ||
=====Map app===== | |||
The Map app is accessed by pressing the Y Button, and holds a detailed view of the Paldea region. The Right Stick is used to rotate or lock the map view, while the Left Stick is used to move the magnifying glass. The ZL and ZR Buttons are used to zoom in and out. Selecting a location lets the user mark it as the next destination. Trainers can also use the app to call the Flying Taxi, a form of public transportation. This service allows them to revisit previous locations, indicated by a feather mark on the map.

The three Pokémon will follow alongside you as you explore Cabo Poco. Walk northward to find an item ball, marked by a beam of light, behind a large tree; examine it to obtain the Poké Ball inside. Continue around the back of the house to reach a Potion, then collect an Antidote beyond the vegetable garden to the south. Make your way downhill until you pass a red sign that reads "Cabo Poco" to the left; instructions then appear directing the player to use the Left Stick to run. Hurry along with the three Pokémon, and pick up another Poké Ball to the north of the large, white stairway at the bottom of the hill.

Once you have chosen your Pokémon, Clavell allows Nemona to take one, as well. Regardless of which Pokémon you took, she will always choose the one with a type disadvantage. The final Pokémon remains under Clavell's care. Nemona then invites you to battle her on the beach whenever you're ready.

Nemona | ====One More Thing!====
Nemona is very eager to battle again, but Clavell says that you've had enough for today. He asks her to take you under her wing, as there is surely a great deal to be learned from a Champion-ranked Trainer like her. Since you're new to Pokémon training, Nemona takes your Rotom Phone for a moment and adds an essential app: the Pokédex! This high-tech encyclopedia records data on every Pokémon that you encounter.
Clavell asks Nemona to accompany you to the academy, then leaves to meet with her parents. Nemona prepares to demonstrate how to catch a Pokémon, and runs off up the stairway from the beach.
| |||
=====Pokédex app=====
The Pokédex app can be accessed directly by pressing the Minus Button, or by pressing the X Button on the Map app. Encounter Pokémon in battle to compile volumes within the app, which then receive fancier covers for species that have been caught.
The Paldea Pokédex includes 400 entries in total, with List of Pokémon by Paldea Pokédex number earned for every tenth species caught. The next reward, and any previous rewards, are displayed by pressing the X Button. Items are obtained automatically by pressing the X Button once the next threshold has been met.
====A Journey Begins====
Follow Nemona to the stairway in front of her home to find her speaking with Mom, who is here to see you off on your adventure. She gives you pdollar10,000 of spending money, a Sandwich that she packed for your first day, and a bundle of five Potions. She then heads for home, while Nemona runs northward to Poco Path.

The player is immediately given a choice of several languages—English, Spanish, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, and Simplified and Traditional Chinese—in which to play. After that, they are prompted to choose a look for their character by selecting one of eight headshots. This allows for the choice between gender and skin tone, which cannot be changed; other variables like hairstyle and eye color may be customized later on. Finally, the player is asked to enter their name, which may be up to twelve characters long. The player is then given a final chance to change the character's hairstyle and look before confirming all current selections.
Next, a closeup shot of paperwork on a desk shows an Enrollment Application for Naranja AcademyS/Uva AcademyV, which includes the character's headshot, language, and name. A message notifying the player of the autosave function, which may be turned off in the Options menu, is displayed for a moment. The academy's logo then appears onscreen, followed by a brief overview of the school that welcomes the player to the world of Pokémon.
The player is introduced to the head of the academy, Clavell, in his office. Clavell now addresses the player, introducing the Paldea region, a land bursting with lush nature and varied landscapes; and the mysterious creatures that inhabit it, known as Pokémon. He opens a Poké Ball to reveal a Pawmi, which then climbs onto his shoulder. Clavell goes on to explain that Pokémon can be found anywhere, coexisting with humans as each helps the other to live and thrive. He promises that the academy is here to help each student reach their potential as Pokémon Trainers, and that the faculty and staff cannot wait to welcome everyone. The screen then fades to black.
A red, feathered dragonS/purple, metallic dragonV is shown flying up from the great crater in the center of the region. It glides around the skies for a short time before losing consciousness and crashing onto a southern beach, which happens to be located near the player's home.

Once Clavell leaves, Mom suggests taking the three Pokémon on a walk to get to know them.
Map app
The Map app is accessed by pressing the Y Button, and holds a detailed view of the Paldea region. The Right Stick is used to rotate or lock the map view, while the Left Stick is used to move the magnifying glass. The ZL and ZR Buttons are used to zoom in and out. Selecting a location lets the user mark it as the next destination. Trainers can also use the app to call the Flying Taxi, a form of public transportation. This service allows them to revisit previous locations, indicated by a feather mark on the map.
Pressing the X Button while in the Map allows the user to switch to a different app.

Profile app
The Profile app displays a digital card with a Trainer's photo, name, and ID number. It also lists adventure records, like number of Badges collected and Pokédex progress. The back of the card shows their name, enrollment date, and the amount of money and League Points on hand. Gym Badge effects are listed at the bottom; with no Badges yet, Pokémon caught at Level 20 or below will obey without question. The current party is shown to the left.
A Stroll Along the Sea
A Most Important Decision
Enter the gate and you find the three Pokémon excitedly rushing ahead to make themselves at home. Quaxly bathes in a pond, Sprigatito visits with the home's flower gardens, and Fuecoco tries to eat a fallen piece of fruit. You are then greeted by Clavell and a young woman. He introduces you and Nemona, student council president and a Champion-ranked student, to each other before allowing you to choose your first partner Pokémon.

Sprigatito, the Grass Cat Pokémon
The Grass-type Sprigatito does well against Water-, Rock-, and Ground-type Pokémon. It also has the most weaknesses of the trio, faring poorly against Fire-, Flying-, Bug-, Poison-, and Ice-type attacks. Sprigatito and its evolutionary family excel in Speed. As it grows, it gains a secondary Dark type.

Fuecoco, the Fire Croc Pokémon
The Fire-type Fuecoco is great when battling Grass-, Bug-, Ice-, and Steel-type Pokémon, but is vulnerable to Water-, Rock-, and Ground-type moves. Fuecoco and its evolutionary relatives excel in Special Attack. As it grows, it gains a secondary Ghost type.

Quaxly, the Duckling Pokémon
The Water-type Quaxly has an advantage when facing Fire-, Rock-, and Ground-type Pokémon, but may struggle against Grass- and Electric-type attacks. Quaxly and its evolutionary family excel in physical Attack. As it grows, it gains a secondary Fighting type. |
Take a moment to explore on the way to the beach in order to collect several more items. Run behind Nemona's house to find a Potion under a palm tree, and an Antidote right next to the building. Grab another Potion to the south and take the stairway down to the beach. Visit the southwestern-most point for another Poké Ball, and the north end for another Potion. A narrow passage nearby leads to a dead-end with another Poké Ball.
Battle on the Beach
Go to the battlfield and speak to Nemona, who is so fired up that Clavell must remind her not to use her experienced Pokémon against the new student!

One More Thing!

Pokédex app
The Pokédex app can be accessed directly by pressing the Minus Button, or by pressing the X Button on the Map app. Encounter Pokémon in battle to compile volumes within the app, which then receive fancier covers for species that have been caught.
The Paldea Pokédex includes 400 entries in total, with item rewards earned for every tenth species caught. The next reward, and any previous rewards, are displayed by pressing the X Button. Items are obtained automatically by pressing the X Button once the next threshold has been met.
A Journey Begins
Follow Nemona to the stairway in front of her home to find her speaking with Mom, who is here to see you off on your adventure. She gives you $10,000 of spending money, a Sandwich that she packed for your first day, and a bundle of five Potions. She then heads for home, while Nemona runs northward to Poco Path.
