Physiology
Torkoal are medium-sized Pokémon with large black rock-like shells with "holes" that glow with a red warmth. Their skin is a reddish brown in color with gray-black bands on their legs and neck. They have long necks and their eyes seem permanently closed. They are usually depicted blowing out smoke from their nostrils and the tops of their backs.
Torkoal is a tortoise-like, quadrupedal Pokémon. It has a large, black, rock-like shell with holes that glow with a red warmth. Its skin is reddish-brown with gray-black bands on its legs and neck. It has a long neck and its eyes seem permanently closed.

Gender differences
None.

Special abilities
Like many fire Pokémon, it has a place inside its body where it keeps its fire. This system is powered by burning coal.

Behavior
It is seen in many Pokemon anime episodes that Torkoal have a calm nature if not disturbed. If angered, it will erupt its smoke. As it is said in Pokémon

Habitat
Diet
Pokémon food

This Pokémon feeds mostly on coal for internal combustion.

In the anime
Torkoal was first seen in Poetry Commotion under the ownership of Lavaridge Town Gym Leader Flannery.

Three episodes later, in All Torkoal, No Play, the Steel-type Pokémon of Steel Valley were picking on a wild Torkoal which, after helping it defeat a Steelix, Ash captured.
Torkoal lives in List of Pokémon by habitat, where it looks for large deposits of coal. It uses the coal to fill the hollow spaces in its shell and then burns it for energy. Because coal is Torkoal's source of energy, it becomes weak and immobile once it runs out of coal to burn. If the fire inside of Torkoal's shell goes out, it will die. A Torkoal is healthy if the smoke spouting from its shell has tremendous velocity. When it blows out smoke from its nostrils and the top of its back, it sounds like a locomotive horn. If it is attacked, it blows black smoke out of its nostrils before fleeing. Torkoal's shell also serves to Shell Armor from critical blows. Prior to Generation V and in Generation IX, White Smoke is its signature Ability.

Torkoal (Japanese: コータス Cotoise) is a Fire-type Pokémon introduced in Generation III.

It is not known to evolve into or from any other Pokémon.

Biology

Torkoal blowing smoke

Torkoal is a tortoise-like, quadrupedal Pokémon. It has a large, black, rock-like shell with holes that glow with a red warmth. Its skin is reddish-brown with gray-black bands on its legs and neck. It has a long neck and its eyes seem permanently closed.

Torkoal lives in mountains and volcanic areas, where it looks for large deposits of coal. Torkoal's shell also serves to shield it from critical blows. Prior to Generation V and in Generation IX, White Smoke is its signature Ability.
