In animation
History
Pre-series
Orla grew up somewhere in the Kanto region with her childhood friend Friede. However, she moved to the Hoenn region and spent most of her life there, becoming an engineer at a dockyard. Although she found her job enjoyable, Orla wondered if working at the docks was really she wanted to do with her life.
As revealed in Flying Pikachu, Rising Higher and Higher!, Orla reunited with Friede, who contacted her, as he asked her to turn Ludlow's fishing boat into an airship. Orla accepted the task and was able to do it, as she wanted to put her skills to the test. Orla decided to join Friede as payment for making the airship and told him that she was getting bored with her job anyway, as she decided to quit. After deciding to join Friede, Captain Pikachu and Ludlow, Orla became a founding member of the Rising Volt Tacklers. Later, Orla met Mollie, Murdock, and his niece, Dot, as they join the Rising Volt Tacklers.
Pokémon Horizons: The Series
Orla debuted in The Pendant That Starts It All (Part One) alongside the other members of the Rising Volt Tacklers. She and her teammates were searching for Liko at Indigo Academy, but to no avail. In the following episode, she appeared inside the Brave Olivine's engine room, fueling the airship during the Explorers' pursuit.
In For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, Orla stayed at the Brave Olivine to repair the power room. At the end of the day, Orla and the rest of the Rising Volt Tacklers took Liko as one of their own.
In Found You, Fuecoco!, Orla briefly battled alongside Murdock against Zirc and Onia. As Roy approached alongside a group of Bug-type wild Pokémon, they ran back to the Brave Olivine to fix its balloon gasbag, leaving Mollie to face off against Zirc. In the next episode, she welcomed Roy after he became part of the group.
In Flying Pikachu, Rising Higher and Higher!, Orla was asked by the younger members as to how Captain Pikachu was able to fly during his battle against Roy in the previous episode, but could’t give them an answer because she didn’t know herself. However, Orla decided to help the younger members get the answers they seek from Friede, which they were able to do as he tells everyone as to how he met Captain Pikachu and the formation of the Rising Volt Tacklers.
In Orla and the Poké Ball Smith, after entering the factory, Orla, being proficient at her job, saw mechanical errors within the factory and helped Karna fix the issues from producing Poké Balls. By helping Karna with many things, Karna suggested that Orla could stay with her to help with repairs, but she refused.
In Song Within the Mist, Orla participated in a plan Friede created in order to lure a Lapras, who happened to be one of Lucius's Pokémon, after they got a led through a ship crew that saw the Transport Pokémon, as their first attempt failed when it didn't come out when a mist appear. As part of Friede's plan, Orla was in the engine room while Ludlow took the wheel. In the next episode, Orla continued helping the team keep up with Lapras and its friends until they were able to find them.
In Respective Departures, Orla attended a surprise party for Diana, as she was planning to resume traveling alone. Once they bid farewell to Diana, the Rising Volt Tacklers resumed their search for the remaining Six Heroes. However, Orla was informed by Friede that they were heading to Paldea first in order to gain information on Terapagos.
In The Plan to Capture Rayquaza, the Brave Olivine was severely damaged during a confrontation between the Explorers and the Black Rayquaza. While the ship underwent repairs, Liko, Roy, and Dot decided to become stronger by learning how to use the Terastal phenomenon.
In HZ054, Orla revealed to Friede that she was halfway done with the repairs to the Brave Olivine and was planning to make improvements to the airship.
Character
Orla is welcoming, as seen in For Sure! 'Cause Sprigatito's with Me!, when it was revealed she lent her room to Liko to stay for the night before she was even part of the Rising Volt Tacklers. She was also the first long-time member of the group who welcomed Roy after he became one of them. Orla also seems to be close with Friede as they have been friends since childhood. Despite being apart for many years, Orla's friendship with Friede remained strong, as she accepted his request to build an airship and decided to travel with him as payment. Orla also doesn't get upset with Friede's absent mind and tendency to forget things too often. In addition, Orla gets along well with the rest of her teammates, especially Mollie.
Orla is also diligent and hard-working, responsible for observing any possible damages done to the Brave Olivine and reporting on them. She can overexert herself while working on the repairs, such as seen in Found You, Fuecoco! when she stayed up during the night in an attempt to patch up the holes on the airship's gasbag. Orla also doesn't complain when her teammates tell her that there is a problem on the airship, as she understands that they need her help and happily does the work.
She is skillful at her own profession, but seems to be rather clumsy outside of it.
Pokémon
Orla's team consists of Pokémon who help her in the engine room and with repairs on the airship. However, Orla only uses her Metagross in battle as its her strongest Pokémon.
