Thunderbolt (Japanese: 10まんボルト 100,000 Volts) is a damage-dealing Electric move introduced in Generation I.

It is:
* TM24 in Generation I, from Generation III to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and in Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl.
* TM36 in Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!.
* TR08 in Pokémon Sword and Shield.
* TM126 in Generation IX.

It can be upgraded to the special Z-Move Stoked Sparksurfer by Alolan Raichu holding Aloraichium Z, and to the special Z-Move 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt by Pikachu in a cap holding Pikashunium Z.

Generation I
Generation I
Thunderbolt does damage and has a 9.8% chance of Paralysis the target.
Thunderbolt does damage and has a 10% chance of Paralysis the target. Thunderbolt cannot paralyze Electric Pokémon.

Generation II to V
Thunderbolt can now paralyze Electric-type Pokémon.

Thunderbolt can be used as the second move of a Pokémon Contest combination, with the user gaining 4 bonus appeal points if Charge was used in the previous turn.

Generation VI onwards
Thunderbolt's power was decreased from 95 to 90. It can no longer paralyze Electric Pokémon once again, due to them now being immune to paralysis.

Thunderbolt can't paralyze a target that has a Substitute or already has a major status ailment.
Thunderbolt can be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Charge was used in the prior turn.

Generation II and beyond
Generation VIII
Same as above, but with a 10% chance of paralysis instead.

For used every slot of the user's move gauge, this attack move's power increases by 25%. This happens before power increases from skills apply.

In Pokémon UNITE, Thunderbolt is Pikachu's second move obtained at level 6 by upgrading Electroweb into it instead of Volt Tackle. The user attacks with a strong electric blast at a designated area; damaging and stunning enemies in the area for 1.1s. At level 13, its damage is increased.

Monopoly: Pokémon Exclusive Kanto Edition
In the exclusive edition of Monopoly: Pokémon Kanto Edition, Thunderbolt is the Power Card belonging to Pikachu. Once per game, the player using Pikachu may move every other player's token to Zapdos, then roll the dice, receiving quadruple the number rolled in Pokémon Dollars from each player, regardless of whether or not they own Zapdos. If Zapdos is not owned by any player, the player using Pikachu is additionally given the opportunity to purchase it from the bank.

* Thunderbolt's Japanese name, 10まんボルト, corresponds with the information present in some of Raichu's Pokédex entries, which state its electric bursts can reach and, in some cases, even exceed 100,000 volts.

* While Thunderbolt is depicted crashing down on the opponent in the handheld games, its depiction in the console games is more akin to how it is depicted in the animated series, as the bolt goes straight toward the opponent. Despite this change, its description still stated "a strong electric blast crashes down on the target" until Pokémon Legends: Arceus.

* In Red and Green, the battle effect for Thunderbolt contains several more, shorter flashes compared to the animation in the international Red and Blue. The move animation was likely toned down to prevent epileptic seizures.

* In some copies of Ruby and Sapphire, using Thunderbolt or Thunder may List of glitches in Generation III during the moves' animation sequences. This, however, can be prevented by turning off the battle effects in the options menu.

** In FireRed, the sound of Thunderbolt or Thunder may get stuck until the game resets.

* As revealed in Climbing the Walls!, Thunderbolt is Ash's favorite move.

* Because it is a staple in Pikachu's moveset since the fifth ever episode, Thunderbolt is one of the most, if not the most, featured move throughout the entire animated series.

Trivia
References
* In some copies of Pokémon Ruby and Sapphire, using Thunderbolt or Thunder may freeze the game during the animation sequence. This may be rectified by turning off the battle animations.
<references/>
* In the console games, Thunderbolt is shown going straight forward to the foes' Pokémon, while in the handheld games it is shown going straight down. This was most likely done to prevent confusion with Thunder.
* Because of Pikachu's early mastery of this move in the anime, it is by far one of the most used moves throughout the entire series, being used since even the earliest episodes. However, such episodes would also use moves simple called "Electric attack" or even "lightning" attack.

Thunderbolt (Japanese: 10まんボルト 100,000 Volts) is a damage-dealing Electric-type move introduced in Generation I.

It is:

It can be upgraded to the special Z-Move Stoked Sparksurfer by Alolan Raichu holding Aloraichium Z, and to the special Z-Move 10,000,000 Volt Thunderbolt by Pikachu in a cap holding Pikashunium Z.

Effect

Generation I

Thunderbolt does damage and has a 10% chance of paralyzing the target. Thunderbolt cannot paralyze Electric-type Pokémon.

It can no longer paralyze Electric-type Pokémon once again, due to them now being immune to paralysis.

Thunderbolt can be used as part of a Contest Spectacular combination, with the user gaining an extra three appeal points if Charge was used in the prior turn.
