Remoraid (Japanese: テッポウオ Teppouo) is a Water Pokémon.
Remoraid (Japanese: テッポウオ Teppouo) is a Water Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It evolves into Octillery starting at level 25.
It evolves into Octillery starting at level 25.
If a Remoraid is in the party when a Mantyke levels up, the Mantyke evolves into Mantine. However, this will not affect the Remoraid and it continues to be a separate Pokémon.

Biology
Physiology
Remoraid is a small, light-blue fish-like Pokémon. It has saucer-like eyes and a purple mouth with four pointed teeth. Remoraid has a single pelvic fin positioned like a revolver's trigger, two caudal fins (the bottom on being the handle and the top one being the hammer) two small pectoral fins and a dorsal fin near its mouth. Remoraid may be a distant cousin of Magikarp and Feebas due to the fact all three are fish-like Pokémon that evolve into completely different sea-creatures (even though Remoraid's evolved form is an octopus while Magikarp and Feebas evolve into sea-serpents).
Remoraid is a light blue fish Pokémon with saucer-like eyes and a mouth with four pointed teeth. There are two dark stripes on its back that resembles the barrel of a revolver. It has a single pelvic fin positioned like a revolver's trigger, two small pectoral fins, and a dorsal fin near its mouth resembling a gun's front sight. In addition, it has two caudal fins, the bottom of which resembling the butt of a gun and the top resembling the hammer. All of its fins except for the dorsal fin are white. For a long period of time, due to their vast anatomical differences, no one believed that Remoraid evolved into Octillery.
Gender differences
None.
Remoraid is well known for its ability to shoot jets of water out of its mouth with incredible accuracy and distance. It uses its abdominal muscles to do so, often to shoot down prey, such as Burmy, out of the air. The water attack can reach its prey from over 300 feet (100 meters) away, even when the prey is moving or flying. Because of this, Remoraid is referred to as the "sniper of the seas." When threatened, it can also shoot water to propel itself backward.

Remoraid tends to travel by attaching to Mantine's fins or in large groups of its own kind. It attaches itself by using its dorsal fin, which acts like a suction pad. When attached to a Mantine, it feeds on whatever the Mantine leaves behind, but will fight alongside it as well. A school of Remoraid is often seen working together and traveling with a Mantyke, helping it achieve its evolution into Mantine. Remoraid is a List of Pokémon by habitat Pokémon, travelling downstream from rivers especially when evolution draws near.

Special abilities
Evolution
Remoraid has the typical abilities of a Water, but also various beam-based moves (Remoraid is one of the few Pokémon that aren't fully evolved to learn Hyper Beam), as well Bullet Seed, Lock-On, Octazooka and Rock Blast to coincide with its gun-like appearance. Unlike most Water-type Pokémon, Remoraid is capable of using Fire attacks. The presence of a Remoraid has been known to make Mantyke evolve.
Remoraid evolves into Octillery.

Behavior
(For specifics on this Pokémon's Evolution in the games, refer to Game data→Evolution data.)
Remoraid are well-known for their ability to shoot jets of water from the surface with incredible accuracy - often this is used to shoot bugs out of the air. They tend to travel with Mantine by attaching to its fins.

Trivia
Trivia
* The Gunfish enemy that appears underwater in Stage 6 of Pulseman resembles to Remoraid, as they are both combinations of fish and revolver pistols. This may be on purpose due to the fact that Ken Sugimori designed the characters in this game and also designs Pokémon.

* Remoraid is the only Pokémon so far that is needed to evolve another Pokémon in the same party. Without Remoraid's presence, Mantyke cannot evolve into Mantine.
* Remoraid can be seen as a parallel to Qwilfish. Both of them are Water Generation II Pokémon. Remoraid is exclusive to LeafGreen, while Qwilfish is exclusive to FireRed, with both Pokémon found in the same locations in their respective versions.
* Despite its symbiotic relationship with Mantine in previous generations, it does not appear in Mantine's Generation IV sprite. Ironically, this is the same generation as Remoraid is needed to obtain a Mantine by evolution from Mantyke.
* If one were to rearrange the Pokérap GS so all the Pokémon are in National Pokédex order, Espeon and Remoraid would remain in their respective positions in the song.
* In the 1997 Nintendo Space World demo of Pokémon Gold and Silver, Remoraid's design more clearly resembled a revolver.

Origin
Origin
Its fame for shooting attacks is like an archerfish, however in all other regards it seems to be based on a remora, and has some elements that make it look like a revolver. It doesn't look like its evolved form, Octillery, much like several other fishlike Pokémon do not resemble their evolutions, but Octillery has some wheeled cannon elements, making somewhat of a parallel.
Remoraid's name and relationship with Mantyke and Mantine suggests that it may be based on a remora. Its wide array of shooting-based attacks brings to mind an archerfish. Said shooting abilities, along with its general shape and appearance make it similar to firearms, more specifically, revolvers. Besides the firearm theme, Remoraid and Octillery share the trait that both are based on aquatic animals with suction cups.

Name origin
Name origin
Remoraid's name may be a combination of remora and raid, as in a rapid attack. Alternatively, its name could be a combination of romora and aid, denoting the health benefits of some fish which clean others. It may also be taken to incorporate the word mermaid into the name. Its Japanese name is probably a combination of 鉄砲 teppō, gun – as in water gun – and 魚 uo, fish. 鉄砲魚 teppōuo is also the Japanese name for the archerfish.
Remoraid may be a combination of remora and raid (rapid attack).

Teppouo may be a combination of 鉄砲 teppō (gun) and 魚 uo (fish), which combine to form 鉄砲魚 teppō-uo (archerfish).

Remoraid (Japanese: テッポウオ Teppouo) is a Water-type Pokémon introduced in Generation II.

It evolves into Octillery starting at level 25.

If a Remoraid is in the party when a Mantyke levels up, the Mantyke evolves into Mantine. However, this will not affect the Remoraid and it continues to be a separate Pokémon.

Biology

Remoraid attached to Mantine

Remoraid is a light blue piscine Pokémon with saucer-like eyes and a mouth with four pointed teeth.

Remoraid is a sea-dwelling Pokémon, travelling downstream from rivers especially when evolution draws near.

Trivia

Sprite from 1997 demo
 • Remoraid can be seen as a parallel to Qwilfish. Both of them are Water-type Generation II Pokémon. Remoraid is exclusive to LeafGreen, while Qwilfish is exclusive to FireRed, with both Pokémon found in the same locations in their respective versions.
 • If one were to rearrange the Pokérap GS so all the Pokémon are in National Pokédex order, Espeon and Remoraid would remain in their respective positions in the song.
 • In the 1997 Nintendo Space World demo of Pokémon Gold and Silver, Remoraid's design more clearly resembled a revolver.

Origin

Remoraid's name and relationship with Mantyke and Mantine suggests that it may be based on a remora. Its wide array of shooting-based attacks brings to mind an archerfish. Said shooting abilities, along with its general shape and appearance make it similar to firearms, more specifically, revolvers. Besides the firearm theme, Remoraid and Octillery share the trait that both are based on aquatic animals with suction cups.

Name origin

Remoraid may be a combination of remora and raid (rapid attack).

Teppouo may be a combination of 鉄砲 teppō (gun) and 魚 uo (fish), which combine to form 鉄砲魚 teppō-uo (archerfish).
