Pokémon world locations |
The Cinnabar Lab (Japanese: グレンラボラトリー Guren Laboratory), also called Pokémon Lab (Japanese: ポケモンけんきゅうじょ Pokémon Laboratory), is a facility located on Cinnabar Island.
In the games
It was founded by Dr. Fuji (Japanese: フジ博士 Dr. Fuji), the title held by Mr. Fuji in his youth.
It only appears in the Generation I games and their remakes due to it being destroyed along the rest of Cinnabar Island prior to the events of the Generation II games and Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver. As fossils are obtainable in HeartGold and SoulSilver and the lab is no longer present, players must revive them at the Pewter Museum of Science instead.
According to a report found in Silph Co., Porygon was created by the lab.
Hall
The hall has a large reception area and a path to the west which provides access to three rooms.
In the reception area, there is a portrait of Dr. Fuji. The player is surprised upon reading the name, indicating familiarity.
Rooms
In the reception room of the Pokémon Lab, there are two people who will offer to trade Pokémon.
- In the Japanese Pokémon Red and Green, international Pokémon Red and Blue, and Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the old man will offer his Electrode for the player's Raichu, while the girl will want to trade her Tangela for the player's Venonat.
- In the Japanese Pokémon Blue, he will offer a Graveler for the player's Kadabra, with the girl offering a Slowpoke for the player's Seel.
- In Pokémon Yellow, the old man offers his Rhydon for the player's Golduck and the girl offers her Dewgong for the player's Growlithe.
In the research lab, there is a man who is interested in Metronome. In the Generation I games, he gives away TM35 (Metronome). In FireRed and LeafGreen, he is a Move Tutor for the move instead. On a computer, the player can read an email from the Pokémon Research Team that mentions the legendary birds Articuno, Zapdos, and Moltres, as well as their intentions to explore Cerulean Cave, where another Legendary Pokémon closely related to Mew is hiding.
In the experimental lab, there is a scientist who can revive the fossils the player can find at Mt. Moon, Pewter Museum of Science, and Cerulean CavePE. In Generations I and III, after giving him the fossil, the player must exit the lab and return to claim their fossil Pokémon, while in Generation VII, the fossil is revived immediately. There is also a third in-game trade here:
- In the Japanese Pokémon Red and Green, international Pokémon Red and Blue, and Pokémon FireRed and LeafGreen, the trade is a Seel for a Ponyta.
- In the Japanese Pokémon Blue, the trade is a Krabby for a Growlithe.
- In Pokémon Yellow, the trade is a Muk for Kangaskhan.
In Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee!, no trades are available at the lab.
