The [[Indigo Plateau]] serves as the capital for the [[Pokémon League]] in the [[Johto]] and [[Kanto]] regions. This is where the Trainers who have defeated all eight [[Gym Leader]]s in either region battle against the [[Elite Four]] and the [[Pokémon Champion|Champion]]. The entrance hall houses a Pokémon Center and a Poké Mart, allowing challengers to prepare themselves and their Pokémon for the gauntlet ahead. The Elite Four is a group of talented Pokémon Trainers second only to the Champion in terms of power, and must be fought in succession with no break. These five battles will not be easy, but challengers who bring their strongest Pokémon and a healthy supply of Potions and Revives may finally find themselves in the [[Hall of Fame]]. Anyone who decides to continue their training before challenging the league may speak to the elderly man, and his {{p|Abra}} will teleport them away to [[New Bark Town]].

You've finally made it to [[Indigo Plateau]], and the game's almost over... well, not really.  After defeating the {{ka|Elite Four}}, you'll get to travel through [[Kanto]] as well.
The first member of the Elite Four is [[Will]], a master of {{type|Psychic}} Pokémon. Psychic-type moves are super effective against {{t|Fighting}}- and {{type|Poison}} Pokémon, while Psychic-type Pokémon are weak to {{t|Bug}}-, {{t|Dark}}-, and {{type|Ghost}} moves.


The {{ka|Elite Four}} members aren't called "elite" for nothing, so it's a good idea to train your team members at least to level 50 before challenging them. If you need to leave and do some more training, talk to the old man near the Poké Center area.  His {{p|Abra}} can {{m|teleport}} you to your home back in {{to|New Bark}} if needed.
Both of Will's {{p|Xatu}} can use {{m|Future Sight}}, which launches an attack that strikes two turns later. In addition to Ghost- and Dark-type moves, they both sustain serious damage from {{type|Electric}} attacks, as does his {{p|Slowbro}}. Its {{m|Amnesia}} move raises its {{stat|Special Defense}}, so use Bug- and Ghost-type moves to target its physical Defense, instead. Bug and Fire attacks work well against both {{p|Exeggutor}} and {{p|Jynx}}.

The second member of the Elite Four is [[Koga]], a master of {{type|Poison}} Pokémon, and former [[Gym Leader]] from [[Kanto]]'s [[Fuchsia City]]. Poison-type moves are super effective against {{type|Grass}} Pokémon, while Poison-type Pokémon are weak to {{t|Ground}}- and {{type|Psychic}} moves.


A powerful {{type2|Electric}} can make short work of his {{p|Slowbro}} and pair of {{p|Xatu}}.  A hit from a strong {{type2|Fire}} move (like {{m|Flamethrower}}) can eliminate his {{p|Jynx}} and {{p|Exeggutor}}. If you chose {{p|Totodile}} as your starter, a few {{m|bite}}s from {{p|Feraligatr}}'s massive jaws can whip through Will's entire team without a problem.
As [[Koga]] is a master ninja, his team makes use of poisoning and confusion to wear down their target. {{type|Psychic}} attacks will be the most useful, as they deal serious damage to four of his five Pokémon. {{t|Rock}} moves are useful against his {{p|Ariados}}, {{p|Venomoth}}, and {{p|Crobat}}, and all three of his {{t|Bug}} Pokémon are also vulnerable to {{t|Fire}} attacks. Watch out for {{p|Forretress}}' {{m|Explosion}}, and be sure to bring healing items to cure any Pokémon that gets poisoned with {{m|Toxic}}.

A strong {{type2|Psychic}} can dispatch all five of his Pokémon by itself, while {{type2|Fire}}s can easily scorch his {{p|Ariados}}, {{p|Forretress}}, and {{p|Venomoth}}.  Be careful with his Venomoth, {{p|Muk}}, and {{p|Crobat}}; all three know {{m|Toxic}}, a venomous move that {{status|badly poisons}} the foe.  If afflicted, switching the Pokémon out of battle will cause the poison to lose its potency, degrading to a normal {{status|poison}} condition.
Defeating Koga opens the door to the third room.

Your {{type2|Psychic}} will work wonders here, at least until it encounters Bruno's {{p|Onix}}.  There's only one thing a Psychic-type should look out for - {{p|Hitmontop}}'s {{m|Pursuit}} move is of the {{type2|Dark}}, which is super-effective when used on a Psychic-type.  {{m|Surf|Flood}} the battlefield with your {{type2|Water}} to take care of his Onix (just watch out for {{p|Hitmonchan}}'s {{m|ThunderPunch}}).
Defeating Bruno opens the door to the fourth room.

After defeating Bruno, heal up if needed, and swap your {{type2|Psychic}} leader with a high-powered {{type2|Fighting}}.
With its high defenses and [[status move]]s to hinder its target, {{p|Umbreon}} can be difficult to take down. {{m|Mean Look}} prevents [[Recall|escape]], which can lock the opponent into an unfavorable matchup; leading with a {{t|Bug}} or {{t|Fighting}} Pokémon, like {{p|Heracross}}, can turn this into an advantage. {{type|Ice}} moves are effective against {{p|Vileplume}} and {{p|Murkrow}}, while Murkrow and {{p|Houndoom}} also take serious damage from {{t|Rock}} attacks. Use {{t|Ghost}}- and {{type|Dark}} moves against {{p|Gengar}} before it can use {{m|Curse}}.

With the {{ka|Elite Four}} behind you, there is only one person left standing between you and the Hall of Fame: [[Lance]], [[master]] of {{t|Dragon}}s, and [[Champion]] of the [[Pokémon League]].  This will be your toughest battle yet, but find a way to slay his {{t|dragon}}s, and you'll be recognized as the most powerful Trainer in all of Johto and Kanto!
The final opponent turns out to be [[Lance]], the same {{t|Dragon}} Pokémon master who helped defeat [[Team Rocket]]. Dragon-type moves are super effective against Dragon-type Pokémon, while Dragon-type Pokémon are weak to Dragon- and {{type|Ice}} moves.


A word of caution: all six of Lance's Pokémon know the devastating move {{m|Hyper Beam}}, so if your team is in trouble, don't risk getting hit - heal up as often as you can. <br> Start off with your {{type2|Electric}}; Lance opens with his {{p|Gyarados}}, which may as well be a big lightning rod.  That same {{type2|Electric}} will have the advantage over his entire team (though some more than others). His {{p|Charizard}} and {{p|Aerodactyl}} hate the water, so have your {{type2|Water}} {{m|Surf|flood the field}} to make short work of them. That leaves his trio of {{p|Dragonite}}.  As {{t|Dragon}}/{{type2|Flying}}s, they are doubly vulnerable to {{t|ice}}, so have your {{m|Surf|surfer}} shoot an {{m|Ice Beam}} or call in a {{m|blizzard}}, and his {{t|dragon}}s will be nothing but a memory.
[[Lance]] begins with his {{p|Gyarados}}, which takes massive damage from {{type|Electric}} attacks. {{p|Charizard}} has the same problem with {{t|Rock}} moves, while both it and {{p|Aerodactyl}} take serious damage from {{t|Water}} attacks. His three {{p|Dragonite}} each have a powerful move—{{m|Blizzard}}, {{m|Thunder}}, and {{m|Fire Blast}}—to help cover the team's vulnerabilities. However, as {{2t|Dragon|Flying}} Pokémon, they fare poorly in the cold and sustain massive damage from {{type|Ice}} attacks. All of his Pokémon can use {{m|Hyper Beam}}, so be sure to bring plenty of {{stat|HP}}-restoring items!

After finally defeating the Pokémon League, Lance compliments you, saying how much you've grown with your Pokémon.  However, he is interrupted by [[DJ Mary]], who is looking for an interview.  She's a little late, but it's not her fault - [[Professor Oak]] isn't as quick as he used to be.  He applauds your domination of the Pokémon League, and tells you that your Pokémon persevered because they believed in you as a Trainer.  Mary is quick to try for that interview, but Lance steps in to take you away from the noise, much to Mary's dismay.

Mary tries again for an interview, but Lance steps in and leads you to the next room.

This is the Bulbapedia walkthrough for Pokémon Gold and Silver.

Indigo Plateau

Indigo Plateau

The Indigo Plateau serves as the capital for the Pokémon League in the Johto and Kanto regions. This is where the Trainers who have defeated all eight Gym Leaders in either region battle against the Elite Four and the Champion. The entrance hall houses a Pokémon Center and a Poké Mart, allowing challengers to prepare themselves and their Pokémon for the gauntlet ahead. The Elite Four is a group of talented Pokémon Trainers second only to the Champion in terms of power, and must be fought in succession with no break. These five battles will not be easy, but challengers who bring their strongest Pokémon and a healthy supply of Potions and Revives may finally find themselves in the Hall of Fame. Anyone who decides to continue their training before challenging the league may speak to the elderly man, and his Abra will teleport them away to New Bark Town.

Elite Four

Battle 1

Will's room

The first member of the Elite Four is Will, a master of Psychic-type Pokémon. Psychic-type moves are super effective against Fighting- and Poison-type Pokémon, while Psychic-type Pokémon are weak to Bug-, Dark-, and Ghost-type moves.

Both of Will's Xatu can use Future Sight, which launches an attack that strikes two turns later. In addition to Ghost- and Dark-type moves, they both sustain serious damage from Electric-type attacks, as does his Slowbro. Its Amnesia move raises its Special Defense, so use Bug- and Ghost-type moves to target its physical Defense, instead. Bug and Fire attacks work well against both Exeggutor and Jynx.




Defeating Will opens the door to the second room.


Battle 2

Koga's room

The second member of the Elite Four is Koga, a master of Poison-type Pokémon, and former Gym Leader from Kanto's Fuchsia City. Poison-type moves are super effective against Grass-type Pokémon, while Poison-type Pokémon are weak to Ground- and Psychic-type moves.

As Koga is a master ninja, his team makes use of poisoning and confusion to wear down their target. Psychic-type attacks will be the most useful, as they deal serious damage to four of his five Pokémon. Rock moves are useful against his Ariados, Venomoth, and Crobat, and all three of his Bug Pokémon are also vulnerable to Fire attacks. Watch out for Forretress' Explosion, and be sure to bring healing items to cure any Pokémon that gets poisoned with Toxic.




Defeating Koga opens the door to the third room.


Battle 3

Bruno's room

The third member of the Elite Four is Bruno, a master of Fighting-type Pokémon. Fighting-type moves are super effective against Dark-, Ice-, Normal-, Rock-, and Steel-type Pokémon, while Fighting-type Pokémon are weak to Flying- and Psychic-type moves.

Psychic-type attacks will do well against four of Bruno's five Pokémon, but Psychic Pokémon should avoid Hitmontop's Pursuit, a Dark-type move. Flying-type attacks are equally useful, but Machamp can fight back against Flying Pokémon with Rock Slide. Fire Punch, Ice Punch, and ThunderPunch may seem intimidating, but Hitmonchan's Special Attack is too low to make effective use of them. As a Rock/Ground Pokémon, not only is Onix the only one of Bruno's team that is not Fighting type, but it is also the only one to sustain massive damage from both Water- and Grass-type attacks.




Defeating Bruno opens the door to the fourth room.


Battle 4

Karen's room

The fourth member of the Elite Four is Karen, a master of Dark-type Pokémon. Dark-type moves are super effective against Ghost- and Psychic-type Pokémon, while Dark-type Pokémon are weak to Bug- and Fighting-type moves.

With its high defenses and status moves to hinder its target, Umbreon can be difficult to take down. Mean Look prevents escape, which can lock the opponent into an unfavorable matchup; leading with a Bug or Fighting Pokémon, like Heracross, can turn this into an advantage. Ice-type moves are effective against Vileplume and Murkrow, while Murkrow and Houndoom also take serious damage from Rock attacks. Use Ghost- and Dark-type moves against Gengar before it can use Curse.




With the Elite Four defeated, the door to the Champion's room is unlocked. Take a moment to prepare your Pokémon now, as you will be drawn into battle immediately upon entering the next room. Only one person stands between you and the title of Champion!
