Zane

Zane (Japanese: ヒビキ Hibiki) is a character of the day who appeared in Beauty and the Breeder.

Zane had been friends with Suzie since they were in nursery school. They both shared dreams of becoming famous Pokémon Breeders. Like Suzie, his first Pokémon was a Vulpix, who he later evolved into a Ninetales. Unlike his close friend, however, Zane believed that a Pokémon's true beauty came from its physical appearance and not from its inner character. Eager to prove his point, he entered the Pokémon Beauty Contest, pitting his Ninetales against Suzie and her Vulpix.

During the competition, he realized that Suzie and Brock's views on Pokémon breeding were just as valid as his, and asked Suzie if she wanted to start a Pokémon beauty salon with him. After consulting with Brock, Suzie eventually accepted his offer.

Though he only appeared in one episode, Zane is notable for finally ending Brock's infatuation with Suzie. While the pair fought over Suzie's affection, Brock later realized that Zane was a better match for her than he was and eventually decided to support their relationship. Zane also grew to like Brock, recognizing him as a top-class Pokémon Breeder.

Zane has had his Ninetales since it was a Vulpix, and he decided to evolve because a Ninetales has beautifully golden fur. Zane has different opinions from Suzie on making his Pokémon beautiful. He entered it in the Pokémon Beauty Contest against Suzie's Vulpix, hoping to prove to her that physical appearance is the true essence of beauty.

Team Rocket later captured it and the other contestants' Pokémon. Brock's Geodude was able to break down the door of the room the Pokémon were trapped in and get them free. Team Rocket noticed this however, and they sent out their Arbok and Victreebel. Ninetales then teamed up with Vulpix, and together they sent Team Rocket blasting off.

Ninetales's known moves are Flamethrower and Fire Spin.
