shouldnt this page mention that its possible to fight trainers while doing the glitch? the beta class Chief says they can be fought with this glitch and idk about any of you guys, but when i do the glitch, i somtimes find my rival! he uses 2 Nidorinos, 2 glitch box things, a missingno., and somthing else. MAGNEDETH 17:14, 22 February 2008 (UTC)
- That's a result of the MISSINGNO. glitch (the Cinnibar Coast bug), not the result of the Rare Candy Cheat. The Rare Candy cheat is itself a result of the Cinnibar Coast bug. --DavidJCobb 17:35, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
The reason the item count is changed is because every Pokemon has a "Pokedex" bit that tells the game its Pokedex status (0=not seen, 127=seen, 255=caught) and that the reason your items are altered is because MISSINGNO.'s Pokedex bit is in the same location in memory as the amount of the sixth item in your inventory. (which is why the items will always be changed to ?28 (128) (or ?55 (255) if you catch MISSINGNO.)) Should I add this to the article? --DavidJCobb 17:35, 15 March 2008 (UTC)
- I would say yes, as that is quite interesting, but it looks like someone already did. Thevictor390 14:45, 15 May 2008 (UTC)
- I'm sure when I did it I always ended up with ?9. HyperHacker 05:08, 11 April 2009 (UTC)
Cheat or Glitch?
Shouldn't this page be at Rare Candy Glitch, not cheat? Or at least Cheat, title capitalization and all.The Dark Fiddler - You enter a poorly lit room... 18:41, 16 May 2009 (UTC)
Title
Wouldn't this be more aptly titled as "Old Man glitch"? Duplicating Rare Candies is only a small part of what this glitch is used for and about. A redirect for "Rare candy cheat" would be fine, and the introductory paragraph could be like "The Old Man Glitch, also known as the "Rare Candy cheat" due to its item duplicating effects..." or something to that effect. Just my $0.02, though. ZestyCactus 03:56, 1 October 2009 (UTC)
- I agree. "Cheat" makes it sound as if a cheating device is used. Move tag added. --SnorlaxMonster 07:03, 10 December 2009 (UTC)
Something's wrong...
It increases BY 128 not TO 128. Try it yourself. OwnageMuch 21:08, 17 October 2009 (UTC)
Looks like this glitch was fixed in European versions...
Here's something interesting. I was playing Pokémon Red in Spanish (don't ask) and I tried to do the Old Man glitch, but I couldn't -- whenever I surfed in the coast of either Cinnabar Island or Seafoam Islands, all I found was Tentacool, which was normal! So it looks like Nintendo found out about the glitch by the time they were going to release Pokémon in Europe, and as a result fixed this glitch. (Even though I only figured this out in the Spanish version, it more than likely was fixed in the French, German, and Italian versions as well, since all European games were released at pretty much the same time). Should this be mentioned in the article at all that this glitch was fixed in some versions of this game?
And yes, before anybody asks if I did the glitch wrong, I do know how to do the glitch properly, as I've done it dozens of times before in the English-language version. So there. --Blaziken257 02:51, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- I'm actually playing Pokémon Red in French right now (I won't ask about the Spanish if you don't ask about the French XD) so I'll verify this when I get to Cinnabar Island myself. --ZestyCactus 02:53, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- Cool, somebody playing it in French... I wouldn't be surprised if it was fixed, but since you're playing it, you might as well confirm this for yourself. Now I wonder if anybody here has played it in either Italian or German... --Blaziken257 03:06, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- I played it in Italian, but was never able to make it work.. the only way I was able to encounter Missingno. was through Ditto's "move glitch". The wild pokemon suddenly became MissingNo. and froze my game after catching it. Hah. --Randomness 02:00, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

This article
It seems to be confusing and combining the Item duplication glitch (caused by encountering/capturing Missingno. or 'M), and the Old man glitch (used to encounter Pokémon including Missingno.). The two are separate glitches, and I propose this article be split into two. --SnorlaxMonster 06:32, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
- I disagree with the split. The item duplication glitch is a direct consequence of the Old Man glitch. Because of the Old Man glitch, Missingno appears, and Missingno causes the sixth item to be duplicated. The reasons why this occurs could be elaborated on, but I don't think it really needs its own seperate article. --ZestyCactus 07:29, 9 February 2010 (UTC)
If you were to split the artice you would have to mention the second item duplication glitch, too then. I agree on this idea kind of, although isn't the whole point of the Old Man glitch to duplicate items (and obviously get Pokémon over level 100). OwnageMuch 07:12, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, the point of it is to get Missingno., 'M, Pokémon over level 100 and duplicate items. And which is the other item duplication glitch? If you mean a Pokémon cloning glitch were you give them held items, then it would be mentioned, but not in detail. --SnorlaxMonster 07:15, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
I think it's pretty recently found, I'll copy and paste some info right here from GCL if that's ok with you? OwnageMuch 07:18, 10 February 2010 (UTC)

have fun reading! OwnageMuch 07:34, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
- Well, that deserves an article. I can't make it now, so if noone has made it by tomorrow, then will. Don't forget to put it on the template and on Glitch. --SnorlaxMonster 11:23, 10 February 2010 (UTC)
I can't exactly figure out how to write it without it sounding like a tutorial though. OwnageMuch 04:11, 11 February 2010 (UTC)
Thankyou very much, you had it practically spot on! I'm glad someone could do this! :) OwnageMuch 23:46, 13 February 2010 (UTC)
- So is it going to be split or not? OwnageMuch 23:51, 13 February 2010 (UTC)

"It sort of has already been split" More like duplicated.... :D OwnageMuch 04:16, 14 February 2010 (UTC)
In Yellow
The article states that in Yellow, the shore was re-programmed so it can act as any water area. But that's not true: in Yellow, if you surf in the shore, NOTHING ever appears. I mean... NOTHING. So the shore was re-programmed to NOT call for any Pokémon. Am I right? --Dr.James (questions?) 22:50, 15 May 2010 (UTC)
Possibly, but nevertheless the glitch was removed. Go ahead and add it in if you want. OwnageMuch 00:19, 16 May 2010 (UTC)
