Synopsis

Picking up right where The Ties That Bind left off, we find that Ash's Heracross wasn't able to withstand Hydro Pump, and was knocked out.

Ash sends out Muk to battle. Blastoise uses Skull Bash, but Muk isn't harmed by physical attacks to a great degree. Muk uses a Sludge Bomb and manages to trap Blastoise, until Blastoise uses Rapid Spin to escape and then damages Muk with another Hydro Pump. Ash calls Muk back, unwilling to lose another Pokemon.

Ash then calls out Bayleef, hoping that a Template:Type2 would be a good advantage against Blastoise. Bayleef uses a Razor Leaf followed by Vine Whip, but Blastoise easily evades with Rapid Spin. Blastoise then bites Bayleef's leaf and sends it flying against the wall, knocking it out!

Since Ash has now lost three Pokemon, the referee calls for a 5-minute intermission.

When the break ends, Gary decides to give Blastoise a rest and sends out Arcanine. Ash, eager to keep fighting, calls out Snorlax. Arcanine manages to trap Snorlax with Fire Spin, but Ash calls for Snorlax to use Hyper Beam- which scores a direct hit and knocks out Arcanine!!

Gary sends Nidoqueen back out. Nidoqueen manages to damage Snorlax with Double Kick, but Snorlax counters with Ice Punch, freezing it solid and taking it out of the fight.

The next Pokemon sends out is Scizor! Ash orders Snorlax to use Hyper Beam again, but Scizor's incredible speed lets it evade with ease and deliver a Metal Claw to Snorlax's face. Snorlax is out!

Ash sends Muk back out, hoping that its Sludge Bomb will wear down Scizor's health. Scizor resists the attacks and uses Metal Claw again, taking Muk out of the fight.

Ash has only one Pokemon left... Charizard!

Charizard takes to the skies and nails Scizor with a Flamethrower, knocking it out. Gary, undaunted, sends out a Golem. Charizard tries to use Seismic Toss, but Golem is too heavy for it! Desperate, Ash has Charizard use Dragon Rage... and it works! Golem is out!

Now both trainers are down to their last Pokemon. It's Blastoise vs Charizard for the victory!

Both competitors trade attacks for a while, neither one gaining a clear advantage. Ash then gets the idea for Charizard to use its flames to heat up the field, burning Blastoise. Blastoise uses a Hydro Pump to cool the rocks, covering the field in steam. Charizard takes the advantage of confusion to grab Blastoise and pull it into a Seismic Toss.

Blastoise tries to stand up again, but it falls! The battle has ended!

Ash has finally defeated Gary!

Ash, realizing what has just happened, stands in awe. Then he jumps for joy and thanks Charizard for a spectacular battle.

Later that night, Ash meets Gary and Gary says that he is not ashamed of losing. Gary and Ash shake hands, agreeing to act as friends from now on.

Next morning, Ash begins his second 6-on-6 battle... against Harrison! Harrison sends out a Kecleon while Ash chooses Pikachu to battle.

The episode ends as the two Pokemon square off....
