After the Vertress Conference ended, Ash, Iris and Cilan heads to the Nuvema Town to Professor Juniper's lab. On their way, they see a girl who visibliy scared due to that she top more and that the brdige will collapse and then she begs them for help. Ash decided that he and his friends will across bridge before her. However, after the group across the bridge, the girl is still scared to across it. So Ash help her out the across. She thanks them for the help and Ash and his friends countiune to head to Nuvema Towm. Meanwhile, Team Rocket look Ash and friends using bug camera device and they prepare to capture Pikachu once more.
Fresh from the [[Vertress Conference]], [[Ash]] and the group are heading to [[Nuvema Town]] to meet with [[Professor Juniper]]. On the way, they come across a young girl kneeling in front of a bridge, frantically talking to herself as to whether she should cross the bridge or not. Ash is concerned and asks her what is the matter. The girl says she is worried the bridge won't support her.  {{an|Iris}} reassures her everything is going to be alright. Ash volunteers to cross the bridge first to prove it is safe.


Ash and his friends arrive at Professor Juniper's lab and invite them to enjoy. Ash chat with Professor Oak about the Vertress Conference he participated and got to the Top 8. Oak explains that he watch too as well. Ash wonder if his Pokemon's are okay, they Muk interrupt and slam Oak in affection. Ash wonders what he's going to do, Cilan stated he's still mastering the Pokmeon connasure and Iris say that he will become Dragon Master. Ash then decided to countinue the travel in Unova. They meet up with girl from the bridge they meet, who is at the door, saying that is everyone in there. She then realize that there are many Galvantula attack the Juniper's lab and gets captured and electricfied upon arrivial. She then begs for help and wonder what she's gonna do.
Once on the other side, the girl is still worried about the integrity of the bridge. Exasperated, Ash recrosses the bridge and manages to help the girl across the bridge.  Before leaving, Ash gives the girl advice.  He says it is good to be careful, but there are times when she will just have to go for it. On that note, Ash and the group say farewell to the girl and continue on to Professor Juniper's lab. Above the group, one of [[Team Rocket Trio|Team Rocket]]'s flying cameras can be seen.  It is revealed that Team Rocket will once again resume their plans of capturing [[Ash's Pikachu|Pikachu]].


Juniper explains about that Pokemon is not free and can choose one starter type Pokemon, she also realize that if she will get a free Pokemon, she will be work at her for the rest of the life. But Juniper tells that is not true, she show all starter Pokemon what she will choose. She imagine that if she choose Snivy, Snivy will evolve into Superior while sleeping and embrace her in affection. If she choose Oshawott, she will fire her with water and flood everything else in her room. Then realize if she choose Tepig before Iris yells her to stop and tells her to choose what she wants. Cilan states that girl is causious and that she could choose Tepig as her starter and decide to this Pokemon. Tepig lick her, believeing that Tepig is tickling her. Juniper gave a Pokedex and 5 empty Pokeballs and Pokemon Badge to battle Gym Leaders to recivie and Badges. Since she a got Pokemon, Ash tells her to have battle, which shock Nanette. Ash says that they will have tag battle which Nanette agress. Teaming with Ash and Nanette against Cilan and Iris. Ash sends Pikachu and Nonomi sends her starter Pokemon, Tepig. Cilan sends out Stunfisk while Iris sends out Emolga. Ash goes his turn and Ash order Pikachu to use thunderbolt at Emolga and Stumfisk. Nanette is her turn and incorrectly order Tepig to use Thunderbolt, despite being Fire-Type Pokemon. After finding in her Pokemon in what Pokemon is, she order Tepig to use Ember st Stunfisk, which delight Nanette. Cilan orders his Stunfish to use Mud Pud at Tepig, making Tepig dirty. Iris then order Emolga to use discharge at both Tepig and Pikachu, Stunfisk also aid her. Pikachu and Tepig stands up, Ash orders Pikachu to use Quick Attack at Emolga. At other forest, Team Rocket secretley watch the group battling and they start to capture Pikachu, Meowth activates a drive invetor and they jump to expose and recite their motto. Jessie and James sends out Frillish and Amoonguss, respectively. Jesse order Frillish to use Mist while James ordea Amoonguss order to use Stun Spore to make their Pokemon (e.g. Iris's Emolga and Cilan's Stunfisk) unconssinous and transform everyone blanked. With Pikachu completley lost, James use to Amoonguss to use Bomb Slap at Pikachu to knock him out. Then Jessie use Frillish a Psychic to capture Pikachu in the process and capture it. Ash sends out Unfezant to use Gust to wipe all the mist and finds that Team Rocket almost captured. Nanette becomes scared and shock about the Team Rocket they are capture, but she then realize about Ash said to be not scared until she tries. She decide to help Ash and sends out Tepig for the help. She order Tepig to ember at Frillish to stop psychic she use at Pikachu. They decided to swtich their to plan to capture Pikachu to Tepig. Jessie orders Frillish to use Post Tatse while James order Amoonguss to use Hidden power at Unfezant (although it also hit on Pikachu but dodge). Nanette order Tepig to use Tackle, but Frillish use at Invisible to miss. Juniper realize that Normal are not affected with Frillish, she then grabs Tepig and throws it at Meowth capture machine. Jessie then order Frillish to use Bubble Beam  and Jessie order Amoonguss to use Hidden Power at the group. But Unfeant manage to protect the attack, Ash order Unfezant to use Air Cutter at Amoonguss and order to use Arieal Ace at Frillish, making them both knock out. Team Rocket them attempt to retreat and almost escape with Meowth's Ballon. Ash help Unfezant to chase after them, Pikachu also want to help them out as well. Team Rocket once again attempt to escape by using a turbo jet to speed up, but Unfezant sprint up at time, Pikachu jump and use electro ball to destroy destroy the balloon, sending Team Rocket fall. Ash and Unfezant manage to grab Tepig in time, who was about to fall.
Ash and the group arrive at the lab and are greeted by Professor Juniper. In the lab, Ash is talking to {{an|Professor Oak}} over a video call. Professor Oak congratulates Ash on his performance in the Unova League, although Ash is disappointed that he was only able to finish in the top 8. As Ash is asking on the state of his Pokémon, {{AP|Muk}} comes up behind Professor Oak and {{m|Body Slam|Body Slams}} him, effectively ending the call.


Nanette finally overcame about everyone she fear and finally begins her journey in excitement. Just then, Junier's assistant comes to tell Juniper that her father is calling. Cedric explains there is a dragon spiral tower located at outskirt in Unova. He also explains that is not a far away and also tells that they discovered at white ruins and offering varuable at Reshiram. Iris tells at Ash that it has statue at Village Dragon. Seeing it, Ash decided to go to White Ruins to see Reshiram, however, Cedric explains that there's no way to see it, only if Ash and his friends come on.
Ash is sitting in the lab's lounge, thinking aloud as to what he is going to do next. {{an|Cilan}} and Iris both say they have a lot more work before they realize their dreams and they decide they should continue on their journeys together. They are interrupted by the same frantic girl. She is outside the lab, which she thinks is full of {{p|Galvantula}} waiting to catch and shock her.  Just then the lab doors open and the group comes out, surprised to see the girl from the bridge.


They prepare to travel using board and they farewell, but Ash believe that she dosen't want to come. But she say she has to do research at this lab and tells them to tell about it. She also explains there's a new Gym Leader named Cheren located at Aspertia Gym in Asperita City. They bid farewell to Juniper and aboard to the White Ruins where they will meet Reshiram.
In the lab, the girl finally reveals her name is [[Nanette]] and she has come to the lab to get her first Pokémon for free.  When Professor Juniper confirms this, this sets Nanette on another panic attack. She thinks there must be a catch to getting a Pokémon for free, but the professor quickly assures the girl there is no catch.  Professor Juniper then proceeds to show Nanette the three starter Pokémon she can choose from: a {{p|Tepig}}, an {{p|Oshawott}}, and a {{p|Snivy}}. Again, Nanette starts to overthink her choice and all the bad things that could happen, but Iris interrupts her, begging her to stop.  Cilan then advises Nanette to choose the lively Tepig because it may balance out Nanette's cautious behavior. Nanette goes along with Cilan's advice and both human and Pokémon seem to be happy with the decision.


At Asperita City, an Mysterious Man walks them on start on board.
Now that Nanette has her first Pokémon, Ash excitedly asks her for a battle, although Nanette once again is apprehensive about the matter.  Ash suggests a tag battle so he can help her.

The tag battle begins between Ash and Nanette against Cilan and Iris.  Both sides call out their Pokémon.  It is Pikachu and Tepig against {{TP|Iris|Emolga}} and {{TP|Cilan|Stunfisk}}.  Nanette is unsure how she should proceed, so Ash starts things off by having Pikachu use {{m|Thunderbolt}}, hitting Emolga and Stunfisk, although it does no damage to the latter.  Nanette decides to follow Ash's lead a little too well, also commanding Tepig to use Thunderbolt, a move Tepig is unable to learn.  Ash has Nanette look at her Pokédex instead to see which moves Tepig knows. Looking at it, Nanette finds one and has Tepig use {{m|Ember}}, hitting Stunfisk.  Cilan has Stunfisk counter with a super-effective {{m|Mud Bomb}}, hitting Tepig.  Emolga uses {{m|Discharge}} hitting everyone on the field, but doing no damage to Stunfisk.  Pikachu hits Emolga back with a {{m|Quick Attack}}.
 
All of a sudden, Team Rocket and one of their machines burst out of the woods.  [[Jessie]] and [[James]] call out their two new Pokémon: [[Jessie's Frillish|Frillish]] and [[James's Amoonguss|Amoonguss]] respectively.  The two use a combination of {{m|Mist}} and {{m|Stun Spore}} to reduce visibility and {{status|Paralysis|paralyze}} the group's Pokémon.  Nanette is able to quickly recall her Tepig, but the others aren't so lucky.  Taking advantage of the situation, James has Amoonguss Body Slam Pikachu, knocking it out.  Frillish then uses {{m|Psychic}} to start moving the unconscious Pikachu to Team Rocket's machine.  Thinking quickly, Ash calls out his {{AP|Unfezant}} and it use {{m|Gust}} to blow away the mist revealing Team Rocket has almost completed capturing Pikachu.
 
Meanwhile, Nanette is having another panic attack but then recalls Ash back at the bridge advising her to go for it because she won't know what she can do until she tries.  Taking hold of the situation, Nanette calls out Tepig and has it use Ember on Frillish.  The Ember causes Frillish's Psychic to stop, releasing Pikachu who quickly regains consciousness and is ready to battle.  Not worried, James has Amoongus use {{m|Hidden Power}} on Pikachu and Unfezant, but they are both able dodge the attack. While Amoonguss is attacking, Frillish is going for Tepig.  Nanette has Tepig us {{m|Tackle}}, but it does nothing to Frillish because it is part {{type|Ghost}}.  Frillish then catches Tepig and throws it into Team Rocket's machine.
 
Attempting to cover their escape, Frillish and Amoonguss use {{m|Bubblebeam}} and Hidden Power. However, Unfezant flies in front of the attacks to protect Ash and Nanette.  Despite the two attacks, it appears unfazed.  Ash has Unfezant use {{m|Air Cutter}} on Amoonguss and {{m|Aerial Ace}} on Frillish, knocking both Pokémon out.  {{MTR}} has Team Rocket retreat with the captured Pokémon to their balloon. The scared Tepig can be seen in a glass box under the balloon.
 
Not giving up, Ash has Unfezant with Pikachu on her back chase after the fleeing balloon.  Meowth activates the balloon's jets to try to escape, but Pikachu uses a well-aimed {{m|Electro Ball}} to blow up the balloon.  Team Rocket blasts off and Tepig is falling toward the ground.  However, Unfezant quickly swoops down and catches the Pokémon.
 
Back on the ground, Nanette and Tepig gladly embrace.  Feeling confident after all the has happened, Nanette promises she will no longer worry about things and runs off to begin her journey.
 
Just then, one of Professor Juniper's assistants runs out and says her father, [[Cedric Juniper]], is calling.  Inside, Professor Juniper asks her father why he called her.  Cedric replies that the [[White Ruins]] have recently been discovered near [[Dragonspiral Tower]].  The ruins could give him information on {{p|Reshiram}}.  The group is excited about the news, so Cedric invites them to come to the White Ruins.
 
The group is by the cruise ship that will take them to the White Ruins. They are saying farewell to Professor Juniper.  Right before they leave, the professor advises them to go to [[Aspertia City]] and challenge [[Cheren]] at the newly opened [[Aspertia Gym]].
