Interlinked

Should the Nido families be interlinked, then, since you can get Nidoran male eggs from a Nidoran female? Tom Temprotran 20:07, 9 November 2006 (UTC) (A question copied from another talk page by User:User142)

I've thought up some sort of solution to the whole issue with the male/female variations. Possibly a page on Gender which would go in depth about the effects of a Pokémon's gender on it (are there any, really?) and explain the different gender ratios, and maybe speculate male-only species female counterparts. After all, there's speculation elsewhere here, right? I'll make the bare bones of it now, and later we can add to it to make it in-depth. Tom Temprotran 20:44, 20 November 2006 (UTC)
technically nidoran♂ and nidoran♀ are the same, with gender differances, the data is different due to g1s lack of genders, and when g2 came with genders, the ♀ and ♂ stuck, leading them to be seperate but simmilar pokemon. they still are the same, but are recognised as different due to the late intraduction of genders--Ben7229 16:46, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

Name Origin

I once read somewhere that Nidoran comes from a Spanish word meaning "Twin". Unfortunately, I don't know Spanish... could someone who does confirm this and maybe add it to the article? Manga-in-a-bottle 09:49, 19 April 2007 (UTC)

You are right, some of my friends are taking Spanish classes, and the Spanish word for twin is Nichodan, I think. GuyNamedSean 23:46, 2 December 2008 (UTC)

I know gemelas means twins, although there might be another word for it. The Dark Fiddler - You enter a poorly lit room... 23:21, 14 April 2009 (UTC)
I think the name Nidoran doesn´t come from a spanish word. Nido means "Nest"... and I have never heard the word "Nichodan" before. Pkqls 18:19, 17 May 2009 (UTC)Pkqls
Keep in mind that Pokemon came from Japan, and for the most part, the names mean nothing more than what is interpreted in their country. Since I tend to use Japanese sources for fact checking, all I've ever seen regarding "nido" is a romanization of "needle" and nothing more.--Nidorino 12:05, 6 November 2009 (UTC)
nido is spanish for needle. i used a traslater--Ben7229 16:49, 25 February 2010 (UTC)

The whole thing about the Nido's is odd. The problem with Nidoran♀ is that it is in the No Eggs group. Anyone know why? [[User:Pokemon26|Pokemon26 31 July 2010 22:54 (UTC)

It's contradictory to write that Nidoran is hairless.

It's misinformation just by virtue of Nidoran having vibrissae. That, and they seem to undergo a process of whisking, something rodents do, all of which at least have short hair. There's other factors too, that's not all too important. But, I did a lot of research on the topic and came up with the best results I could get using a great deal of supporting evidence. It's objective, although in some cases I used a logical deduction to fill in any blanks. If you want to review it (because it's five pages long), I wrote that here: [1]

It just amazes me, though, that one of the core designs of Nidoran is always overlooked as simply aesthetic. This is one of those cases where if you don't want to take a stance, it'd be best not to say anything, at least that way you can leave it up to others to decide and not confuse people. At least to me, it's just a mind boggling claim.--Nidorino 12:21, 6 November 2009 (UTC)

Oh, and just something else I either overlooked all this time or whatev, but it's also written here that they are covered in small spines (primarily on the back). So, essentially yes that's more or less the most likely possibility, even I agree to that. However, it's still confusing to keep mention of not having fur. Again, I'd just not mention anything at all like the Nidoran Male article. Because those whiskers, man, hard to ignore those things, and whiskers are only present on mammals, birds, insects and plants, and all mammals have at least a tiny bit of hair (seeing as Nidoran is clearly none of the latter three). I don't want to edit any articles, but I'm not entirely sure how much priority Nidos are given, even in an encyclopedia.--Nidorino 04:54, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Ahem...

Ahem... Nidoran♀ got her sprite changed in Pokemon Platinum..--Makupe 18:19, 25 November 2009 (UTC)

Evo box

Since Nidoran♂ can be bred from Nidoran♀, should the evolution box be changed to include both families? I dont know how both families would fit though...

That evobox should probably mention that Nidoran♂, Nidorino, and Nidoking, when bred with Ditto, can potentially produce a Nidoran♀. I've done this myself. - unsigned comment from Missingno. Master (talkcontribs) 13:24, 5 June 2011 (UTC)
