Froslass (Japanese: ユキメノコ Yukimenoko) is an Ice/Ghost-type Pokémon.

Biology

Physiology

Froslass doesn't have any feet, so it floats in the air like its counter-part, Glalie. Its torso appears to be hollow, as it is stated in the Pokédex's entry for Froslass, which is probably the reason for its surprisingly low weight. Its body appears to resemble that of a Kimono, especially due to the fact that the red around its waist is similar to that of an Obi. Its long drooping ears appear to have hands on them. Froslass heads are shaped like sideways water drops. The head has two ice crystals on top of it, as well as two holes in the middle where yellow eyes peek out.

Gender differences

Froslass is a female only species. Glalie partially counts as its male counterpart, because they both evolve from the same Pokémon. However, a Glalie could still be female.

Trivia

On the Pokémon.com Pokédex it is mistakenly said that Froslass evolves from Glalie.

Origin

Froslass is probably based on Yuki-onna, a female ice-spirit of Japanese folklore.

Name origin

Its name comes from frost and lass. Yuki is the Japanese word for snow. Menoko is an old word meaning girl. It also sounds like a slightly corrupted version of kimono.
