Gen II & III

if i give my Magneton Hidden Power in Gen II & III and it's type is one of the special types (grass, fire, water, etc..) does that mean it gets based on the Sp. Atk. or is it still physical because HP is technically a Normal-type attack? MAGNEDETH 02:50, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Let's take for instance, Hidder Power Bug. That'll be Physical, since Bug was a Physical type back in GenII and III. However, HP Ice'd be Special, since Ice is a Special type in II and III. Hope that clears up something. Tina δ 02:53, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
not entirely. hows about, if i had HP Ice on Magneton, it would run off the Sp. Atk stat instead of attack (unlike a normal-type move) thus making it useful to me (because of Magnetons high Sp. Atk) or would it be physical because HP is technically a Normal-type attack? MAGNEDETH 03:05, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
It'd run off the Special stat, since there is no such thing as a Normal-type Hidden Power. (It really should be ???-type..) Tina δ 03:10, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
well, let me see if i can make more sence. because its technically a Normal-type attack, does that make all types physical? as in, the only possible way before Gen IV to get a physical Ice or Psychic attack? or is it by the books, Electric = Sp. Fighting = Phys. MAGNEDETH 03:13, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
No, whether the Hidden Power attacking type (Before GenIV)'d be determined by what elemental type. For example, an Ice-type Hidden Power'd be Special (since in everything but GenIV), but a Fighting-type HP'd be Physical. Tina δ 03:16, 30 January 2008 (UTC)
great, guess im off to breed Magnemites to get a Grass-type hidden power then! TAKE THAT QUAGSIRE!!! MAGNEDETH 03:17, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

HP

Hidden Power is often referred to as 'HP' by competitive battlers. However, if you search HP on Bulbapedia, you are redirected to the stats page. This could be confusing to a new player. I think maybe a disambiguation is in order, or at least a mention of it on the page. Cheesus Is Lord 13:02, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

How new do you have to be to not know about Hidden Power. I'll see what I can do. TTEchidna 23:50, 2 April 2008 (UTC)

Power?

How do you determine Hidden power's power? SLE_aman

Hidden Power and STAB

Under Movesets, Hidden Power is bolded as being a STAB for Normal-type Pokémon. However, since (i) Hidden Power's type and magnitude depends on variable stats for each individual Pokémon, let alone each species, and (ii) there is no such thing as a Normal-type Hidden Power that can be activated, should this bolding be discontinued? Thanks. --CharleyUcheaLulz 02:38, 18 July 2008 (UTC)

Who

I thought that Hidden Power varies depending on its surroundings and not Pokémon? -- Hazardous FIRE! 02:03, 1 September 2008 (UTC)

I thought that too! I was always told that Hidden Power depends on its surrounding! --Pokelova 01:31, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

Nope... thats secret power Dion24 04:05, 2 September 2008 (UTC)

more info

some more info on exactly how hidden power works would be nice for people who don't nkow it @.@

Didn't you see the link to Hidden Power calculation? TTEchidna 18:44, 9 September 2008 (UTC)

Game mechanics category

But since all the calculations are on the Hidden Power calculation page, shouldn't just that page be in the Game mechanics category? — Laoris (Blah) 00:25, 22 November 2008 (UTC)

Most learned move?

Since every pokemon that learns a TM learns Hidden Power, and also Unown, a pokemon that doesn't learn any TMs, learns hidden power, doesn't that make it the most learned move in the game? That sounds like it should be added to the trivia section.

Testing Hidden Power

The article mentions a man in Platinum, Heartgold, and Soulsilver who tells you the type that Hidden power has. Shouldn't there be a link to article on that. The Professor 23:23, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

A link to which article? The man himself doesn't have an article because that is all he does, and he doesn't appear in any other media. Having an article on him would be like having an article on each trainer that is fought. Werdnae (talk) 23:34, 27 June 2010 (UTC)

Hidden Power Fairy

Has there been a release about how this will work? 5hoo (talk) 18:05, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

No; we don't know anything about it yet. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 18:26, 17 September 2013 (UTC)

Pixilate Ability with Hidden Power

The article says that there is no way to make Hidden Power a Fairy type. Wouldn't Pixilate do that?Yamitora1 (talk) 16:41, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Hidden Power cannot be a Normal type without Normalize, and you cannot have Normalize at the same time Pixilate...--Den Zen 16:45, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
So despite it being a normal type move, it isn't treated like one. Well in any case I just got done testing this with my Sylveon who incidentally has a Steel Type Hidden Power. I battled a Flebébé and the move was super effective. Yamitora1 (talk) 16:49, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
Everything in this article is super clear on the fact that Hidden Power is never treated as a Normal-type attack except to choose which little type icon to display to the player. It shouldn't be necessary to specify Hidden Power as an exception on the Pixilate page as you did, because it's not an exception; it's just another of the many attacks that aren't Normal and thus don't get affected by any of the three Abilities that change Normal-type moves to other types. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 17:08, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
Dude, ok you already made your point once on the HP article. There was no reason to come in here and keep driving at it. You should have just did the undo and let it go, its rude to keep bringing it up especially on other articles/talk pages. Yamitora1 (talk) 17:14, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
My entire point didn't fit in the edit summary box, so I came here to give it in full (and so outside observers could see it and rebut me, if they don't have Pixilate on their watchlist). That's all. Sorry if you were offended. Try to assume good faith. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 17:45, 23 February 2014 (UTC)
Its ok, but really unless someone goes to this page or knows HP well enough, they would have no idea about it not being affected by Pixilate. The article just states that all normal type moves become fairy, and doesn't go beyond that like other articles do on exceptions. Yamitora1 (talk) 18:38, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Transform

If ditto transforms into an ice HP ampharos (for example), will hidden power still be ice? or will HP's type be based on ditto's IV's? - unsigned comment from Hypershock (talkcontribs)

What is Hidden Power

What does it do in anime and game? examples please--SilverioBOMB (talk) 01:11, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

It's all right on the page... Just read it. Tiddlywinks (talk) 01:17, 9 March 2016 (UTC)

Unown in Gen VI

Trivia says that Unowns have 3 perfect IVs since they are in the Undiscovered Egg Group in Generation VI. I'm not sure about XY (can someone check?), but this is untrue in ORAS. This information should either be edited or deleted. KingisNitro (talk) 15:49, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

It was true for everything in the Undiscovered Egg Group in XY, but was changed in ORAS to apply only to Legendaries and Mythicals. I've rewritten the trivium from scratch to take this into account. Pumpkinking0192 (talk) 16:46, 23 August 2016 (UTC)
I wasn't sure and don't have XY to check, so I didn't want to edit it myself. Thanks for the edit KingisNitro (talk) 19:40, 23 August 2016 (UTC)

actual typing

I came here to read what type it would be if I were to teach it to my pokemon, should I add it? my research will be done on Omega Ruby also I'm not very good at editing pages so can anyone please either explain what I should do in order to edit it and make it look pretty or do that for me, something like how the "what pokemon can learn it" section is Pokegail (talk) 16:08, 6 September 2016 (UTC)
