Lanturn is a large, blue fish-like Pokémon with small, blue pectoral fins. It has a yellow "mask" over its red eyes. The lower half of its caudal fin is yellow and has jagged edges. A Y-shaped antenna with a teardrop-shaped orb on each tip sprouts from its back. This structure comes from a modification of its dorsal fin.
These orbs contain a colony of bacteria that chemically react with Lanturn's bodily fluids, generating electricity in a similar fashion to that of a battery. Lanturn uses the bright part of its body to lure fish prey. It then blinds the prey with an intense burst of light, and swallows the immobilized prey in a single gulp. Lanturn inhabits the ocean at depths of over three miles.
Lanturn, the Light Pokémon, and the evolved form of Chinchou. Lanturn's antenna light is strong enough to penetrate the ocean, and can be seen on the water's surface.
Lanturn is nicknamed "the deep-sea star" for its illuminated antenna. This Pokémon produces light by causing a chemical reaction between bacteria and its bodily fluids inside the antenna.
Lanturn is known to emit light. If you peer down into the dark sea from a ship at night, you can sometimes see this Pokémon's light rising from the depths where it swims. It gives the sea an appearance of a starlit night.
The light-emitting orbs on its back are very bright. They are formed from a part of its dorsal fin. This Pokémon illuminates the inky darkness of deep seas.

It is based on an anglerfish, more specifically the footballfish, although it shares some similarities with dolphins. It is also possible that Lanturn's origin contains a small piece of the Hellenistic god, Apollo. He was the god of light and his animal was the dolphin.
Name origin
Lanturn is a corruption of lantern. It may also be a combination of lantern and turn (as in "turn on the light").
