Roger Clifford (Japanese: ロジャー Roger) is one of the characters of Detective Pikachu and the film adaptation. In the movie, he is portrayed by Chris Geere.

In the movie

In the film adaptation of the game, Roger is the president of CNM and Clifford Industries, having inherited these positions after his father Howard Clifford's resignation. He first appears in a public service video viewed by Tim Goodman on a train en route to Ryme City, in which he gives commentary on his father's work and the history of the city.

When Tim and Detective Pikachu go to the CNM building to search for Lucy Stevens, they find her involved in a promotional shoot for Ryme City's upcoming parade presented by Roger and Howard. The shoot itself goes well, but as soon as the cameras stop rolling, Roger grows angry and argues with his father over one of Howard's lines, even though his people wrote the script. Howard leaves, and Roger turns his irritation on Lucy. Later on, Tim and Pikachu are brought to Howard's office by the elder Clifford's assistant Ms. Norman, where Howard asks them to find Mewtwo and warns them that Roger is dangerous.

Tim and Pikachu recruit Lucy and together, they break into the PCL. Roger, traveling there himself with numerous henchmen, monitors them without their knowledge from a laptop computer. He releases several genetically modified Greninja in the laboratory, setting off a chain of events that leads to Pikachu being badly injured. He follows the group to find Mewtwo, ambushing it with machines that restrain it. Before leaving with Mewtwo, Roger looks down into the canyon and smiles at Tim and Lucy.

Tim and Lucy race back to Ryme City to warn Howard and the public about Roger's plan to attack the parade. While Tim heads to Howard's office, Lucy steals a press pass and tries to talk to Ryme City's mayor. Roger boards the float and menaces her with his presence, making her flee. Meanwhile, Tim discovers Howard wearing Dr. Ann Laurent's neural link device and realizes that he, not Roger, is the mastermind of the conspiracy. After Howard merges his mind into Mewtwo's body and leaves to spread R throughout the city so he can merge all the humans and Pokémon together, Tim discovers Roger tied up and gagged with duct tape in the office closet. The "Roger" who captured Mewtwo arrives and shapeshifts into Ms. Norman before removing her sunglasses, revealing her true identity as Howard's genetically modified Ditto. Tim fights Ms. Norman, but is overwhelmed and nearly dropped from a window until Roger, who freed himself from his bonds, hits Ditto out the window with a pole. After Roger pulls Tim back into the office, Ms. Norman returns in the form of a Braviary before shapeshifting into a Bouffalant and headbutting Roger, knocking him out.

Once Howard is separated from Mewtwo and arrested by the police, Roger expresses disgust at his father's actions. He vows to reverse the harm Howard inflicted on both humans and Pokémon, then grants Lucy a promotion to full reporter, tasking her with anchoring the report on Howard's crimes.
