Cobalion (Japanese: コバルオン Cobalon) was the third of the Swords of Justice to appear and is the leader of the group.
History
Black & White arc
Prior to the start of the Black & White arc, Cobalion, alongside Terrakion and Virizion, protected Pokémon during the war between humans and Pokémon. Once the three starting fighting, they quickly ended the war.
Cobalion first appeared in A Misunderstanding, in Mistralton Cave, stopping Trish's Heatmor from attacking Terrakion and Virizion, causing Trish to drop her torch. The torch soon set the cave on fire, trapping one of Shoko's Patrat. While Black and Costa attempt to put out the fire, Virizion jumps up to protect Patrat, while Terrakion makes an escape route. Cobalion puts out the fire by smashing a boulder over top it and the three make their escape with Patrat. After Shoko and Trish attempt to get Patrat back, the Swords of Justice capture the rest of their Pokémon and escape. After being tracked down by Black, he pleads with them that the Trainers are not bad people and asks them to consider their Pokémon's feelings. Once thinking it over they return the Pokémon. The Swords of Justice quickly depart to join Keldeo.
In The Shadow Triad, the three continue to make their way to Keldeo, communicating through telepathy, discussing Black's courage and selflessness. Cobalion then notices the presence of the Shadow Triad and destroys the boulder they are hiding behind. While Terrakion and Virizion prepare their swords, Cobalion tells them to wait and uses Metal Burst. The Swords of Justice then make their escape, as Cobalion sees humans who wish to exploit their powers as unworthy of their swords. The three soon meet with their student, who is pleased of their arrival. Keldeo then begins its final test and creates a sword of energy that emerges from its horn and attacks the stone. Right before the sword can make contact, Keldeo loses its focus, and the sword disappears. Terrakion and Virizion laugh at the embarrassed Keldeo, and Terrakion states that Keldeo is very close to mastering the move, and promises to help it finish the final steps. Soon after, Keldeo perfects the move and receives praise from its three mentors. Cobalion wastes no time afterward, immediately having the group set off to find the Shadow Triad, not wanting to remain ignorant of their evil deeds.
The Swords of Justice soon locate the Shadow Triad, watching them battle against Cilan, Cress, and Chili. Keldeo quickly jumps in to help the Striaton Gym Leaders and is given permission by its mentors to battle. Cobalion watches the fight as Keldeo takes control of the battle. After the Colt Pokémon believes it has won the fight, it lets its guard down and the three jump in to protect it. Cobalion praises Keldeo's use of the sword, and informs it that it needs resolution in order to obtain the other sword. The three then quickly overwhelm the Shadow Triad. Having defeated the Shadow Triad, they begin to leave the area. Not wanting such rare Pokémon to escape, the Shadow Triad release their secret weapon, which attacks the Swords of Justice with a powerful beam. Cobalion, along with Terrakion and Virizion, jumps in front of the beam to protect Keldeo and is immediately frozen, sending them sinking to the waters below.
Black 2 & White 2 arc
Two years later, Kelden discovers the three frozen at the Abyssal Ruins. It attempts to free them with Sacred Sword but is unsuccessful. It later returns with its Trainer, who deduces that the Swords of Justice were frozen by an Ice-type Techno Blast and therefore can be freed with a Fire-type Techno Blast. Blake then has his Genesect use the move, despite the fact that the move could cause its drive to discharge. This frees the group and sensing that the drive will discharge Cobalion attacks the drive, releasing it from Genesect and keeping it safe from damage. Cobalion then tells Kelden to stay with Blake and trust in the decision it had made to make him its Trainer. Cobalion then escapes the Abyssal Ruins alongside Blake, Whitley, and the other Swords of Justice.
In Deduction Time, the Swords of Justice track down Ghetsis alongside the Unova Pokédex holders. Before they are able to get to Ghestis, they are blocked by the Shadow Triad, who send out the Forces of Nature to battle them. In The Final Battle: Crushed Ambition, the Reveal Glass was broken by Kelden, transforming the Forces of Nature back into their Incarnate Formes. The Swords of Justice used this to drive the Forces of Nature back, forcing them to retreat.
Personality and characteristics
Cobalion is a strong willed and solemn Pokémon, serving as the leader to the Swords of Justice. It takes its duty as leader seriously, making decision it believes benefits all of the group. Cobalion has a strong relationship with Keldeo, having taught it how to keep a strong heart and to never flinch from an opponent. Cobalion feels hostility and distrust from humans and finds it as no surprise that humans wish to exploit it for its strength. It also sees humans as neither good or evil, just as things that will strike down others with different thoughts. Despite this, it is willing to lend strength to humans who show strong bonds with their Pokémon, even if it is not willing to cooperate with them. Cobalion is a powerful Pokémon, being sought out by many for its strength and making Black afraid to move from its presence alone.

History
Black & White arc
Prior to the start of the Black & White arc, Terrakion, alongside Cobalion and Virizion, protected Pokémon during the war between humans and Pokémon. Once the three starting fighting, they quickly ended the war.
Terrakion first appeared in A Week to Go and Old Wounds, where it came to meet up with Cobalion at Mistralton Cave. It and Virizion were later attacked by Trish and her Heatmor. Soon after the battle starts Black enters the cave, having previously been looking for the Swords of Justice to capture them to help in his battle against Team Plasma. Black steps in to save Trish and sends out Bo to battle Virizion. Once Bo is about to land an attack on the Grassland Pokémon, Terrakion blocks the blow. The two then fire a simultaneous attack of Magical Leaf and Stone Edge at Trish and she is saved by Bo at the last second. Terrakion then charges at the Mega Fire Pig Pokémon, breaking a hole in the cave. Cobalion soon appears, stopping Trish's Heatmor from attacking, causing Trish to drop her torch. The torch soon set the cave on fire, trapping one of Shoko's Patrat. While Black and Costa attempt to put out the fire, Virizion jumps up to protect Patrat, while Terrakion makes an escape route. Virizion (Japanese: ビリジオン Virizion) was the first of the Swords of Justice to appear.
History
Black & White arc
Prior to the start of the Black & White arc, Virizion, alongside Cobalion and Terrakion, protected Pokémon during the war between humans and Pokémon. Once the three starting fighting, they quickly ended the war.
Virizion first appeared in A Direct Attack and a Daunting Defense, watching Black and White as they cross through Pinwheel Forest. As they reach the end of the forest Virizion attacks the two with a whirlwind of leaves, shredding their clothes in the process. Afterwards, it runs away with Black catching just a blur of the Grassland Pokémon.
Virizion appeared again in A Week to Go and Old Wounds, where it came to meet up with Cobalion at Mistralton Cave. It and Terrakion were later attacked by Trish and her Heatmor. Soon after the battle starts Black enters the cave, having previously been looking for the Swords of Justice to capture them to help in his battle against Team Plasma. Black steps in to save Trish and sends out Bo to battle Virizion, attacking with a Flamethrower. Virizion cuts through the attack with Magical Leaf and easily dances around Bo with its speed. Once Bo is about to land an attack on the Grassland Pokémon, Terrakion blocks the blow. The two then fire a simultaneous attack of Magical Leaf and Stone Edge at Trish and she is saved by Bo at the last second. Cobalion soon appears, stopping Trish's Heatmor from attacking, causing Trish to drop her torch. The torch soon set the cave on fire, trapping one of Shoko's Patrat.
