Zero Isle South (Japanese: ゼロのしま なんぶ Zero Isle South) is a dungeon in Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Time and Explorers of Darkness and Pokémon Mystery Dungeon: Explorers of Sky. It is unlocked after graduation and is part of the Zero Isle dungeons discovered by Team AWD. It is the ultimate dungeon in Explorers of Time and Darkness, similarly to Purity Forest in Red and Blue Rescue Team.

Gameplay

Zero Isle South is effectively a longer and more challenging version of the already difficult Zero Isle West. The Pokémon's level is temporarily reduced to 1. Any extra stats and IQ gained from Gummis, drinks, or the like, are removed. The Pokémon will have all the moves it would have at Level 1, with any TM, HM or Egg moves being lost. No Pokémon found in this dungeon can be recruited. Unlike Zero Isle West, the player is not allowed to bring money on top of items, which have to be stored in Duskull Bank and Kangaskhan Storage, or they will be lost forever. Additionally, the player is allowed to bring only the team leader, with any extra Pokémon being automatically returned to Chimecho Assembly. All of this means that the player has to rely solely on what they can find within the dungeon (with friend rescue being unable to send items). Upon exiting the dungeon, the Pokémon's IQ, stats and moveset return to what they were before entering the dungeon, with items obtained within the dungeon preserved as per usual rules.

The enemy Pokémon will gradually gain levels; while the pace is the same as in Zero Isle West, the dungeon's huge length means the player will have to face even stronger enemies. In fact on later floors, the enemies will have access to some of their IQ skills: with 26IQ on floors 1 through 39, 150 on floors 40 through 69, 330 on floors 70 through 79 and 331 on floors 80 through 98. Monster House can spawn as early as floor 6. The amount of starting enemies varies depending on floor, with some of later floors having more enemies than in any other dungeon in Explorers of Time and Darkness:

  • 2-3 on floors 1 through 20
  • 2-4 on floors 21 through 50
  • 3-5 on floors 51 through 77, as well as floors 80, 82, 86, 88, 92, 94 and 98
  • 3-6 on floors 79, 83, 85, 89, 91, 95 and 97
  • 4-7 on floors 78, 84, 90 and 96
  • 4-8 on floors 81, 87 and 93

The amount of items on the ground varies between floors, generally being lower the deeper into the dungeon like Zero Isle West:

  • 5-8 on floors 1 through 5
  • 4-7 on floors 6 through 10
  • 3-6 on floors 11 through 20 and 50 through 69
  • 2-5 on floors 21 through 49 and 70 through 98

There's also 2-5 items buried in the walls if the player is able to get through walls, though they're all Poké. Like Zero Isle West, items will spawn sticky 5% of the time.

Floors in Zero Isle South use following layouts:

  • Medium-sized on floors 1 through 12 and 22 through 50. Most of them have 3-9 rooms; floors 25, 40 and 50 have 3-7 rooms instead, and floors 1, 10, 31 and 46 have 3-8 rooms instead.
  • Large-sized with following amount of rooms:
    • 3-7 on floors 18, 63, 79, 87, 92 and 95
    • 3-8 on floors 16, 55 and 70
    • 3-9 on floors 17, 54, 71 and 78
    • 3-10 on floors 15, 53, 56, 60, 61, 62, 64, 65, 66, 67, 68, 69, 72, 77, 80, 84, 85, 86, 88, 89, 90, 91, 93, 94, 96, 97 and 98
    • 3-11 on floors 14, 19, 52, 59, 73, 76 and 83
    • 3-12 on floors 13, 20, 21, 51, 58, 74, 75 and 82
    • 3-14 on floors 57 and 81

Jobs in this dungeon are ranked E or ★2 through ★8 by default, depending on the floor. There is heavy darkness in the dungeon. There is water on floors 3, 5, 7, 11, 12, 15, 19, 22, 24, 26, 30, 31, 34, 38, 41, 43, 45, 49, 50, 53, 57, 62, 64, 66, 70, 71, 74, 78 and 82. The turn limit is 2000, twice as long.

There is random weather at floors 15, 21, 24, 28, 32, 38, 43, 48, 52, 57, 61, 67, 81 and 89.

As the hardest dungeon in Explorers of Time and Darkness, it houses four valuable items that are not found anywhere else in the game: Pierce Band and Tight Belt in Time, and Goggle Specs and Trap Scarf in Darkness (with all four being available in Sky). They are found only in Kecleon Shops, on the last floors of the dungeon. Notably, no throwing items and most Wonder Obs do not spawn on B20F, regardless of the version.

There are locked chambers requiring Keys on floors:

At the end of the dungeon, there is a Deluxe Box containing either Joy Seed or Life Seed.

Pokémon encountered

Each time player enters floors 17 through 21 and floors 63, 74 and 75, only 14 of the following species that can be found on the given floor will be chosen. The unpicked Pokémon's spawn rate will be added to whichever picked Pokémon is next in the National Dex order, going back to the beginning if needed.
