Route 12 is the Silence Bridge. It's a large bridge built over water that's a popular gathering spot for fishing. Nort of the bridge is Lavender Town. South is Route 13. The middle point of the bridge connects to a lookout station on Route 11.
A sleeping Snorlax may block the way between the three areas. To move it, a Poké Flute or a PokéGear playing the Pokémon March may be required.
In Generation I, the items found on Route 12 include Iron, and TM 16, Pay Day
