A Raid Pass (Japanese: レイドパス Raid Pass) is an item in Pokémon GO that is required to join a Raid Battle. Once a player uses a Raid Pass, they will join a lobby with all of the other raid participants. Raid Passes cannot be refunded even if the player decides to quit before or during a raid. Using a single Raid Pass, a player may attempt a raid as many times as they like until they win the raid or the raid expires.
There are four types of Raid Passes: free Raid Passes, Premium Battle Passes, Remote Raid Passes, and EX Raid Passes.
- Regular (or free) Raid Passes can be used to join a Raid Battle if the player is within range of the Gym. A player can only hold one free Raid Pass at a time. If a player has both a free Raid Pass and a Premium Battle Pass, the game will prioritize using the free Raid Pass first.
- Premium Battle Passes (formerly Premium Raid Passes) can be used to join a Raid Battle if the player is within range of the Gym or to participate in the premium reward track in GO Battle League.
- Remote Raid Passes can be used to join a Raid Battle at a Gym outside the player's range, but can still be seen from the Nearby screen or if the player's Pokémon is defending the Gym. These were introduced as a means for players to continue participating in raids amidst the COVID-19 pandemic. A maximum of 10 players using Remote Raid Passes may join a Raid Battle. Players may only acquire more Remote Raid passes if they have less than three on hand.
- Eventually, at a time to be determined, the limit for Remote Raid Pass users will be reduced to 5 per raid, and Remote Raid Pass users will deal reduced damage.
- EX Raid Passes can only be used to join EX Raids, which have a set time and location in advance. They cannot be used for any other raids and disappear from the player's Bag if it expires.

Acquisition
A free Raid Pass may be obtained only once a day by spinning the Photo Disc of a Gym if there is not one in their Bag. If the player already has a free Raid Pass from a previous day, they must use it first before obtaining another one.
Premium Raid Passes are awarded for completing certain Special Research tasks. They can also be purchased at the Shop for 100 each or by purchasing certain boxes that contain them.
Initially, Remote Raid Passes could be purchased at the Shop for 100 each or 250 for a bundle of three. Starting April 27, 2020, players also had an option for a one-time purchase of a box containing three Remote Raid Passes for 1. Weekly boxes that cost 1 that contained Remote Raid Passes used to be available when first introduced.
However, on May 19, 2022, in a controversial move, Niantic announced that these weekly boxes would no longer contain Remote Raid Passes and contain other items[1]; these weekly boxes would eventually disappear without any announcement. On the same day, the bundle of three was raised from 250 to 300, which was not announced by Niantic, and effectively made the cost of the bundle of three the same as buying one at a time.
On March 30, 2023, in another controversial move, Niantic has announced that the prices of Remote Raid Passes will be increased again: single Remote Raid Passes will have its price increased to from 100 to 195, while the bundle of three passes will increase from 300 to 525. In addition, there will be a limit of 5 remote raids per day, although it could temporarily increase with events. These changes, as planned, have gone into effect on April 6, 2023.[2] This price increase makes these passes approximately twice as expensive as they were originally, generating significant backlash.[3]
EX Raid Passes are distributed on a semi-random basis to players who have recently completed a Raid at the same Gym the EX Raid is to take place. Each EX Raid Pass allows a player to invite one Ultra Friend to participate, but may not send another even if the invitation is declined.
